Thoughts? What is your favourite and least favourite (or do you hate them all Grin) and why?

Sorry, Cécile (misplaced accent)

AuntieStella · 30/04/2021 15:13

Audrey - Coronation Street
Cecilie - not this spelling, Cecily, Cecilé or Cecilia, or Celia are much nicer
Winnie - the Pooh

MercyBodle · 30/04/2021 15:10

I love Audrey, don't mind Cecilie and dislike Winnie.

Edenember · 30/04/2021 11:23

@JemimaJoy

Haha i really appreciate these replies but there's no clear winner and most people feel strongly about the names... But everyone feels strongly about a different one. Seems thay whichever I choose will be loved or absolutely despised by someone Grin
Which is why, while it’s always worth weighing up obvious teasing potential, ultimately it comes down to what you like best. Even choosing classics isn’t fully crowd pleasing as some people deride that as dull. I do think the Winnie the Pooh thing is significant, it’s still current. Cecily is gorgeous imo and I prefer the look of it Cecilie which I find overkill with the i’s and e’s. Subjective taste, but I also think it’s worth considering a burdensome lifetime of corrections as I think most people would default to Cecily. Audrey - not my taste, I find dr- sound dreary. But that’s completely subjective and the name itself is perfectly fine and has a chic association. Happy choosing ☺️

Grin Grin

I'd go with Cecilia as a formal name and then you can use Cecily/Cecilie as you like! Really cute for a little girl.

JemimaJoy · 30/04/2021 01:15

@stackthecats is is terrible to admit that it was when reading Winnie the Witch that I first started to like the name? Blush😂

But appreciate all the same!

I love Cecilie (or Cecily) actually - I know a baby Cecilia nn Cecilie and think it's very elegant and cute. There's also the older English spelling Cicely.

Not keen on Audrey and I really dislike Winnie, sorry (also bear in mind there's a series of children's books called Winnie the Witch...)

Winnie is awful

ElizabethTudor · 30/04/2021 01:06

Ok, just seen your update.
Go for Cecily spelling.
My vote - Cecily. Gorgeous name.
Audrey - bleugghhh. Audrey Barlow off Corrie. Old lady name.
Winnie - same as above, but worse.

JemimaJoy · 30/04/2021 01:02

And thank you for the opinions! Grin

For those who are confused - Cecilie is a name, I expect pronounced the same as Cecily? I just came across Cecilie when reading about Princess Cecilie of Greece and Denmark. Not too fussed abojt spelling, Cecily is fine too.

Our labradoodle is called Winnie and it suits her perfectly 😂

Kokeshi123 · 30/04/2021 00:25

Audrey YES
Cecile YES
Cecily YES (Cicely and Cecilia are also fine)

Cecilie is a misspelling and she will spend her life correcting spelling or correcting people who look at it and read "Cecile."

Winnie is really, really awful. I can't think of one nice thing about this name. It doesn't look nice, it doesn't sound nice, it will date badly, it is cutesy, it sounds like the noise a horse makes, "Winnie the Poo" etc.

riotlady · 29/04/2021 23:47

Audrey- lovely and classic
Cecilie- a bit fussy for my taste.
Winnie- gonna get too many poo jokes at school

ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 29/04/2021 23:45

oops, just noticed it's Cecilie rather than Cecile.

I prefer Cecile.

ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 29/04/2021 23:44

Audrey and Cecile are fine.

Winnie is absolutely dreadful.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/04/2021 22:58

Both Cecily and Audrey are lovely (I'd spell it Cecily unless you are living in a French speaking country). Audrey is very retro cool and is rising in popularity - so I'd be tempted to use classic, elegant Cecily of the two (Winnie is a cutesy but dated nn, so not my taste, sorry).

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 29/04/2021 22:40

I’m confused...

Do you mean Cecile or Cecily?

I love Cecily. If you really mean Cecilie as a name then please cross it off the list! Apart from that Winnie is my least favourite.

DramaAlpaca · 29/04/2021 22:38

I love Cecily, but not Cecilie.

Audrey is elegant.

Winnie is hideous.

YorkiePanda · 29/04/2021 20:16

Audrey - reminds me of a teacher I had in primary school who smelt awful!

Winnie - will definitely get Winnie the Pooh jokes.

Cécile or Cecilie/Cecilia are pretty I think

zigaziga · 29/04/2021 20:10

Cecilie?

I know a Cecile (as in Se-seal), a Cicely (Si-selly) and a Cecilia (Se-see-leah). I know you can also have Cecily although I prefer Cicely. What is Cecilie? A mid-spelling of one of the 3 or a different name?

Anyway, I do like Cecilia and Cicely (or Cecily I guess). Not so much Cecile.

Audrey is nice.

I actually love Winnie but a bit nicknamey?

Silverfly · 29/04/2021 19:20

Cecily is my favourite. Or Cecilia.

Tianatiers · 29/04/2021 19:19

Actually, I like Cecily but not Cecilie
