Daphne?

My current top name is Phoebe, but Daphne has just popped into my head - what are people's opinions on the name? I think it's quite sweet, but I live in the north west and worry it would end up sounding a bit like 'Daphne Moon' from Frasier (though that is one of my favourite shows!)

@NameChangedForThisFeb21 Audrey and Daphne were my Gran’s two best friends. I totally know what you mean about them being the same sort of name. I love them both.

Also love Persephone as suggested by someone else.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/04/2021 15:22

Not keen on Daphne or Phoebe personally (too much "ee" in Phoebe makes it sound a touch whiny to me, plus I dislike the Daf part in Daphne - too close to daft).

I really like Nia though! Have you considered Xanthe, Ianthe, Sylvie, Coralie, Rosalie, Bryony, Verity etc if you want the "ee" ending? Or if you want to go Welsh like Nia, how about the lovely Tesni?

ChaToilLeam · 29/04/2021 14:42

I can only think of Daphne Broon when I hear that name.

chesirecat99 · 29/04/2021 14:41

Phoebe and Daphne are both lovely. I also like Daphna, which is less of a clash with Nia. Delphine, suggested by a PP, is even more lovely.

Blondiney · 29/04/2021 14:39

Daphne is adorable!

GreyhoundG1rl · 29/04/2021 14:37

Nia is lovely.

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 29/04/2021 14:36

I’ve liked it since “Daphne & Celeste” (giving my age away). It’s an adorable name. I’m not at all keen on Phoebe. Too twee and cutesy and far too common in my circles. But Daphne, whilst being quite a sweet name also has an elegance and timelessness. It works as a grown up name too. It’s similar to Audrey in those respects but I prefer Daphne to that as well.

Flymetothestars · 29/04/2021 14:31

Daphne and Nia are perfect together
Love Daphne

GreyhoundG1rl · 29/04/2021 13:29

Jesus! Daphnie (yes we want the spelling to be that way) Confused
You'd have to wonder how some people's minds work.

Queenoftheashes · 29/04/2021 13:25

I like it but don’t spell it like this woman

CheesePleaseLoueese · 29/04/2021 13:21

I love it.

TuvoknotSpock · 29/04/2021 13:17

I LOVE this name. DH vetoed it for DD.

Interesting that Bridgestone might make it popular again..

Daphne and Nia is a bit of a mouthful but who cares, no one ever says the name together as adults lol

I love 1920s vibe names!

RuthW · 29/04/2021 12:16

Lovely

DinosaurDiana · 29/04/2021 10:12

I prefer Daphne to Phoebe. I know of quite a few Phoebes.

Mamamamasaurus · 29/04/2021 10:11

I have a Phoebe (middle name) and I LOVE it

GreyhoundG1rl · 29/04/2021 09:05

It's a nice name, but it reminds me of Scooby Doo.

EweandI · 29/04/2021 09:03

Love it! The flower is beautiful too

DennisTMenace · 29/04/2021 09:02

Love Daphne and also haven't watched Bridgerton. I think you will say Nia and Daphne, not Daphnie and Nia, so the n's won't be together. Also, they will grow up to have independent lives, so not always be said together.

toastofthetown · 29/04/2021 08:58

I like Daphne, and as Phoebe is your top comhoice, I assume that popularity isn’t really a concern. I prefer Daphne to Phoebe, as I’m a bit tired of hearing Phoebe. It’s worth noting that Daphne has been rising very quickly in England and Wales over the last ten or so years without the Bridgerton effect, and I think it has the potential to explode into the top hundred over the next few years. It’s been popular on name forums for a while now, so Bridgerton could be the catalyst to break out, in the way Phoebe did, interestingly enough.

Scarydinosaurs · 29/04/2021 08:29

I have loved Daphne for ages. And Delphine too. And Persephone. I think I just like the ph sound.

partyatthepalace · 29/04/2021 08:27

I find it a bit wet - makes me think of Daffy Duck. But it’s Ok, Bridgerton will probably make it more popular

MercyBodle · 29/04/2021 04:39

Daphne is okay, but I prefer Phoebe, and Phoebe goes better with Nia.

DramaAlpaca · 29/04/2021 00:10

I adore Daphne, always have.

In your situation, Phoebe goes better with Nia.

Cindie943811A · 28/04/2021 23:12

Daphne blossom is beautiful but I’d be put of by the shortening to Daf or Daffy.
And you’re right Daphne doesn’t go well with Nia with the repetition of the nee sound.
If I were you I’d stick to Phoebe

hazandduck · 28/04/2021 23:09

Daphne and Phoebe are both favourites of mine too, lovely names. I think they are similar because of the ‘f’ sound, it makes them both soft?

I know a baby girl named Daphne and they call her Daffy! Which I think is actually really cute 🙈
