DD4

DDs 1-3 are called
Is.obel. Ed.ith.
Al.ice. El.eanor.
Or.la. Rose.

(Hoping the full stops make this less easy to Google!)

DD4 due in a week. DH dead set on Te.ss. A.va.

I like it, and I think it goes really well with the other names. However, DDs don’t know the name but when it has come up they don’t like it. My own favourite was Phoe.be. J.oy. But DH hates that with a passion, so it’s out. Anyway, I’m 95% certain it’s the name we’ll go with and I do really like it, but wanted a last-minute roll of the dice on here in case anybody comes up with anything we haven’t thought of that we might love!

Hit me with any ideas you have, based on our other names!

Estelle as mentioned previously is gorgeous- Estelle Ava, or Ava Estelle. I also love Este.
I love the roll of vowel sounds in your first and second daughters names :)

That’s a nice list iamnitwhoyouthinkiam - thanks!

Tess is lovely and works well with your other DD's names imo. Phoebe isn't my taste, sorry. Ava is okay but I must admit I really like the sound of Tess Imogen, followed by Tess Olivia. Other ideas (for first or middle) -

Juliet (love this with your dd's names - different ending sound to the others but has the "L" link in the names)
Evelyn (as above, plus then each DD would start with a different vowel!)
Emmeline
Verity
Lydia
Josephine
Cecelia/Celia
Claudia

Ducksurprise · 27/04/2021 13:41

The A of the middle name makes me read Tessa Va as Tessa is a name I've heard more.

I like Joanne with your other names or Teigan

Ohnomoreno · 27/04/2021 13:27

Jessica?

TatianaBis · 27/04/2021 13:23

You'll find out soon enough.

Nickname names tend make people feel uncomfortable as they feel too familiar, particularly in formal settings - so they tend to take a stab at what may be the full length version.

At the very very least she will get a lot of "Tess short for...?" 'Tess is that Tessa/Theresa".

ineedbanoffee · 27/04/2021 12:47

Well, because I see Tess as a name in its own right and I like it. I find it highly unlikely that people will randomly lengthen her name 😂

OP posts:
TatianaBis · 27/04/2021 12:31

If you don't like Tess or Theresa why go for Tess? She will likely get called Tessa a lot.

Beatrice, & Imogen are nicer (from your list) and go better with Ava.

Even Ava, while massively over-used is a nicer name than Tess so why not do Ava Tess as others have suggested.

ineedbanoffee · 27/04/2021 10:12

Hadn’t thought about ‘to save her’ 🙈😂

OP posts:
ineedbanoffee · 27/04/2021 10:10

Agree Jemima (about it being a proper name!). I like Tess Amelie - thank you to the person who made the suggestion. Agree also about the Edwardian feel of the other names! Might try Tess Phoebe on DH. I actually love Tess Iris but my grandmother’s name is Iris and it would upset my other grandmother (who hates her name - Janet) if I chose it!

OP posts:
JemimaJoy · 27/04/2021 09:45

Also, Tess IS a proper name! A full name in it's own right. I don't know any Tess who has a longer full name 😳

JemimaJoy · 27/04/2021 09:44

No just said Tess Iris a few times and it doesnt work either. Same problem! It needs to not start with a vowel. Tess Daisy?

JemimaJoy · 27/04/2021 09:43

LOVE Tess, but agree that Ava doesn't flow well. I'd keep Tess but change the middle to a two syllable name - Tess Iris?

MitheringSunday · 27/04/2021 06:06

To be absolutely honest, I'd feel a bit sorry for her as Tess, as the only one of four who didn't get a 'proper' name but 'only a shortening'.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 27/04/2021 03:41

Tess Ava sounds a bit like "to save her", although I doubt she would be called by both names on a daily basis?

MercyBodle · 27/04/2021 03:33

I love Tess and love it with your other girls' names. I'm not keen on Ava with it though. I also love Phoebe as a first name. Tess Phoebe? I do really like Tess Felicity and Tess Abigail.

Chilldonaldchill · 26/04/2021 22:29

Oh Tess is lovely. I think it runs into Ava slightly but it wouldn't be a problem if those are your favourite names. Tess Felicity is gorgeous.
Other options:
Tess Amelie
Tess Mabel
Tess Clara
Tess Clarice
Tess Frances
Tess Mary

RowanAlong · 26/04/2021 22:27

I like Tess! How about Tess Beatrix, Tess Elizabeth, Tess Annabel, Tess Hazel?

Roszie · 26/04/2021 22:25

Eliza Joy

ineedbanoffee · 26/04/2021 22:22

Should have said I don’t like any of the longer names for Tess (Esther, Tessa, Theresa etc). Agree about the flow (have considered Olivia, Beatrice, Abigail, Imogen as middle names as all longer ... though I also think there’s a kind of natural pause between the two names as they are that means the flow thing isn’t as much of an issue for me). Also like Felicity as a middle name and had forgotten about that so thanks for that reminder!

Cbeebiesrehab · 26/04/2021 22:13

Tess is lovely. Slightly prefer Tessa. I think Tess/Tessa Joy sounds really nice.

finallychangedmyusername · 26/04/2021 22:12

Emily Joy
Charlotte Ava
Matilda Joy
Tessa Joy
Elodie Joy
Abigail Tess
Zoe Tessa
Esme Joy
Lucy Ava

Peasbewithyou · 26/04/2021 22:04

Phoebe is a lovely name OP! Definitely go with that. Tess feels a bit less like a whole name (although also lovely) and does “merge” a bit with Ava to sound like one name.

Other names that could work in a similar vein just to give you food for thought:
Florence
Lydia
Amelia
Cora
Beatrice
Emily

Phoebe was my top name choice for DD2 except DH wasn’t so keen on it (it sort of rhymes with our surname) so I wasn’t allowed to go with it. Sad

daisypond · 26/04/2021 22:03

I like Tess a lot but it’s more a nickname than your other DD names. It’s short for Theresa.
