Hello,
DH and I have finally decided on a name for our little girl but can’t decide on the spelling. What are your thoughts on Aimée vs Amy?
We like the name as it is recognisable but not used very often these days!
Any thoughts on the name are welcome as well as similar suggestions :)

I have a 9 year old Amy.
Short and simple.
Nickname is Eidelweiss!

The mother of an Aimmiee (correct spelling) told me they’d chosen that spelling as it is classier. I wasn’t convinced.

DramaAlpaca · 20/04/2021 10:35

Amy. It's lovely, simple and sweet.

Aimee is unnecessarily fussy, with or without the accent.

DoomscroIIer · 20/04/2021 10:33

Aimée

because it means loved. I like accents.
Amy makes me think of Britney's If you seek Amy
Little women (and Amy was the worst)
Amy Poehler (meh)
The Brooklyn 99 character Amy Santiago is called Ames a lot as a nickname.

KirstenBlest · 20/04/2021 10:31

I know an Amie and an Amey.

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/04/2021 10:31

Amy for me ; and definitely if that is the way you want it pronounced.
It is a classic name and to me bridges the gap between' old fashioned maid' names and plain classics such as Mary , Jane etc which are coming in.

StayingHere · 20/04/2021 10:31

Amy. Lovely name.

bootlebum · 20/04/2021 10:30

Amy is lovely

Cakeandslippers · 20/04/2021 10:30

@UnprecedentedPoster haha now I'm annoyed I didn't think of that for a boy, I could have had a great trio there!

UnprecedentedPoster · 20/04/2021 10:26

@Cakeandslippers you have a child called Yam?! Shock Wink

I like Amy! And as an 80s kids, I actually only knew one, despite its reputed popularity. I think it's simple yet different. Do it!

RoseDog · 20/04/2021 10:25

I have an Aimee and she has to spell it all the time but I still prefer it to Amy, she is 18 and there was always at least one other Amy/aimee she knew at school and clubs.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 20/04/2021 10:23

Amy is lovely. Simple, pretty and classic.

A-may with the accent is a bit try-hard if you're not french. Lots of people including me, won't know how to spell it or write the accent.

AnyaMoondial · 20/04/2021 10:22

Amy. It is a good name.

Crustybreadandbutter · 20/04/2021 10:21

Violetlavenders · 20/04/2021 10:20

Aimée sounds beautiful in French.

Cakeandslippers · 20/04/2021 10:18

Amy.

I wanted my son to be Amy if he was a girl. .. though I had to rethink it when I realised it was an anagram of his/her sister's name 🙈

MajorNeville · 20/04/2021 10:17

Amy.

Ilikecheeseontoast · 20/04/2021 10:15

I like Aimee. I've also seen it spelt Amie.

Amdone123 · 20/04/2021 10:13

Amy. It's beautiful.

BeesAnkles · 20/04/2021 10:10

@Starburst8

I like the spelling Aimee without the accent.
This. What purpose does the accent serve? By including the accent, I assume that it would be pronounced as the French for loved: /em-ay/.

If you want the "Amy" pronunciation, I'd recommend removing the accent.

KitKatBunny · 20/04/2021 10:07

Amy. Friends recently used it for their little girl and it was nice to hear such a lovely classic name being used.

Inastatus · 20/04/2021 10:05

I’ve got an Amy - I love the name obviously Smile

kokosm · 20/04/2021 10:04

Amy - if you'd like it spelled Aimee and pronounced Amy, the accent would make it sound different.

Starburst8 · 20/04/2021 10:03

I like the spelling Aimee without the accent.

Sellstrom · 20/04/2021 10:00
