Which do you prefer? (If either!)

Ruby is quite jolly.

Not Lola

Aprilshowersandhail · 18/04/2021 11:25

My Ruby is nearly 16.. Suits her and we all still love it - even her! The song isn't an issue. As a small dc she was mesmerised watching it played on the music channels! My name is also song related
..not a showgirl though!

Mumoblue · 18/04/2021 10:01

Ruby.
I can’t separate “Lola” from the song. Grin

SionnachRua · 18/04/2021 10:00

Ruby. Though I do think it's very generic.

Lola is a very blah, weak sound.

adrianmolesmole · 18/04/2021 10:00

Both make me think of eastenders, so neither!

SnottyLottie · 18/04/2021 09:59

She’s either going to get “Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby....Ahhhhhhhh” or “Her name was Lola, She was a showgirl” (or even L-O-L-A Lola, la-la-la-la Lola) sung at her.

I say this as a person whose real name is in the title of a popular song and hate people singing it back to me 😡😆

Twinkie01 · 18/04/2021 09:49

I can never get over the Barry Manilow Lola connotation.

LozMarieFielder · 18/04/2021 09:27

I think I like them equally. However, I’d say Ruby is a rather strong name, (sweet but not pretty), whilst Lola is pretty and quite similar to other ‘L’ names. Just some things to take into consideration.

Flymetothestars · 18/04/2021 09:14

I love both
I would pick Lola

Jinglebells87 · 18/04/2021 08:01

I vote Lola but that's because it's my DD's name. I didn't realise there is so much hate for it Grin. It totally suits her kind but cheeky nature.
I like the name Ruby too but that I don't like that it rhymes with "boobie" lol Grin.

user1493494961 · 17/04/2021 23:07

Ruby's OK, Lola's awful.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 16/04/2021 22:42

Ruby. Classier.

KoalaOok · 16/04/2021 22:04

Can't stand Lola. Don't mind Ruby.

mathanxiety · 16/04/2021 21:57

Lola.

More boho and less milkmaid than Ruby.

lemonsyellow · 16/04/2021 21:56

Ruby hands down.
Never Lola.

pigglepot · 16/04/2021 21:41

Definitely Ruby it's lovely.

Lola is short for Lolita so for me that's a definite no no for obvious reasons!!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/04/2021 20:35

Both are too trendy as given names for me, sorry - although I think Lola is a cute nn for Louisa (I know it was originally a nn for Dolores, but that's a bit too dated now!)

CaviarAndCigarettes · 16/04/2021 20:08

I don't love either, but Lola is a cat name

Happycat1212 · 16/04/2021 19:44

Hate lola

Happycat1212 · 16/04/2021 19:44

Ruby,

not robina! Sounds like Ribena😕

Hufflepuffsunite · 16/04/2021 19:34

Ruby. I do like Lola too actually but prefer Ruby.

Ahbahbahbah · 16/04/2021 19:32

You’re both right! A showgirl. I’ve been singing the wrong lyrics for years Blush

DotDotDotDotDot · 16/04/2021 19:29

I’d choose Ruby definitely, still quite popular but less so than 10-15 years ago. I used to quite like Lola but then someone mentioned on a thread here that they associate it with Lolita so that really put me off the name, but maybe I’m easily swayed?

Troyhelena · 16/04/2021 19:24

@Aprilshowersandhail she was

Aprilshowersandhail · 16/04/2021 19:22

Wasn't Lola a showgirl?
