Claudia and Sophie for twin girls?

Hi MN, I posted last week about a few names we were considering and think you’re all right; twins with the same initial isn’t really fair considering they’ll be a ‘set’ to many people for most of their lives, so they don’t really need matching initials in the mix as well.

So, we’re thinking Claudia and Sophie are our current picks, with older brother being George. Thoughts? Middle names will be Araminta (Claudia Araminta) and Catherine (Sophie Catherine).

I don't (personally) think middle names are a big deal as they are so rarely used.

Love the names Claudia and Sophie (not Sophia - too "matchy")

Edenember · 26/04/2021 10:44

Evangeline and Araminta

toastofthetown · 26/04/2021 07:50

I agree with previous posters, that I prefer a consonant sound after Claudia, but if your recent choices I prefer the first for both.

Have you considered the initials, especially for Sophie’s name? Could end up as scab, scat, scar, scam etc.

Santatizer · 26/04/2021 07:50

I would make Sophie "Sophia" instead. Claudia is lovely. Sophie is a very nice name but I do agree that Sophie Catherine is a bit boring in comparison to Claudia Elisabeth. I know you've added the third names as well but they will barely be used. I don't like Araminta personally but you obviously really do so it's nice to get it in there as a third name. Apologies to the pp who said Catherine isn't boring - it definitely is for me, especially spelt with the C for some reason. Sophia Evangeline Audrey and Claudia Elisabeth Aurora would be my combinations from the names you've considered.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/04/2021 00:34

Lovely names, especially adore Claudia. For middle names, of your options I agree with pp - Claudia Elisabeth Audrey and Sophie Catherine Aurora.

Flymetothestars · 25/04/2021 13:41

@Atlas2006 wow Claudia and Sophie are gorgeous. I slightly prefer Sophie but both
lovely

For middle names I prefer Elisabeth and Aurora of your options

Great choices

Atlas2006 · 25/04/2021 12:10

Thanks all! So we’re set on Claudia and Sophie.
For middle names were set but are now considering these options:

Claudia Elisabeth Audrey
Claudia Evangeline Audrey

Sophie Catherine Araminta
Sophie Catherine Aurora

Thoughts?

Sylvia is nice too yes.

lottiegarbanzo · 18/04/2021 19:14

Really? I love Sophie. Claudia's nice but I'd rather be Sophie.

Leytonladee · 18/04/2021 18:43

Have to agree with the others that I'd be forever jealous of my twin sister's name if I got Sophie. Claudia is interesting and super classy, whereas Sophie is overused, not as classic or elegant.

lottiegarbanzo · 18/04/2021 16:38

Yes, really nice. Quite different but within the same broad style bracket.

partyatthepalace · 18/04/2021 16:35

Both Lovely

If I were Sophie I might be a bit jealous of Claudia’s slightly more sophisticated and unusual name, so I’d think about switching it out for Serena, Seraphina or Sylvie/Sylvia

Araminta is a bit much for me, so I would personally go for Alexandra or Elizabeth

MarshaBradyo · 15/04/2021 09:27

Really lovely

ellenpartridge · 15/04/2021 09:25

Your final combos are great

GreenClock · 15/04/2021 09:19

Beautiful first names but I’d rethink Araminta.

sarah13xx · 15/04/2021 09:18

Both lovely, have always loved Claudia 😊

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 15/04/2021 09:14

Very nice! Wishing you well!

Atlas2006 · 15/04/2021 09:08

Wow so many replies! Thank you!

We’ve settled on two middle names for the twins as it’s a bit of a tradition in our family that the girls have two middle names, and seeing as I do, we thought we’d continue the tradition. (Hadn’t even thought about that until my sister pointed it out yesterday when I sent her the link to this thread!)

Claudia Elisabeth Audrey
Sophie Catherine Araminta

Claudia and Sophie are both lovely and I like them together.
I think Claudia needs a middle name starting with a consonant, otherwise the A at the end sort of runs into the vowel at the beginning. Like Claudiaraminta. Claudia Catherine actually sounds lovely in my opinion, but if you don't want the alliteration then how about
Claudia Jane
Claudia Daisy
Claudia Penelope
Claudia Hermione
Claudia Susannah
Claudia Rose
Claudia Therese

Stevearnottsbeard · 15/04/2021 08:06

I have a friend with daughters called Claudia and Sophie... Really dislike araminta, especially following Claudia

Synchrony · 14/04/2021 23:43

I think they are lovely.
I agree that Claudia Araminta isn't the greatest flow, but how many times do you say the whole name? I chose a middle name for my DC that had less than ideal flow because I adored the name but husband vetoed as a first name and I've no regretted it.

TatianaBis · 14/04/2021 23:23

I’d do Claudia and Sophia personally.

Normandy144 · 14/04/2021 23:13

Claudia is a great name - I have one. She also has a sister with a more standard classic top 20 name (not Sophie!) So I think it can work. That being said I don't particularly love Sophie and think Sophia would fit better with Claudia. If you're sticking with Sophie I would be tempted to switch the middle names and give claudia a plainer more classic middle name and Sophie something a bit frillier, so something like Araminta is good or maybe Alexandra, Lydia, Gabriella etc

TheRedFox · 14/04/2021 23:01

I like both Claudia and Sophie (the former is on our list) although wouldn't use the latter personally as it is so popular.

However once you add in the middle names there is a definite feel that one twin got the more interesting names and the other the more "everyday".

I would mix up the middle names a little to make the names overall sound a bit more balanced.

GreyhoundG1rl · 14/04/2021 22:48

@Camandmitch

Claudia Araminta is what I wanted to call my dd when I was younger. Dh did not agree. I like Sophie but Sophie Catherine seems a rather boring name in comparison to her sister
Catherine isn't boring?
