Opinions on Joanna?

Dh loves Alice, I wanted Thomasin. It seems like Joanna is likely to be the compromise. Then as a nn, I want either Joey or Josie.

I really like it but on the flipside for some unusual reason lots of the mean girls at school were called Joanna, Jojo, Joella, Joanne etc

Joanna is a sort of smush between 2 of my dcs so I love it.

I've never heard of the name Thomasin except for in Dd's family.
Her Gran, and now young cousin are both Thomasin, known as Thomi.
It's a gorgeous name.

Anyway, I like Joanna too, but just had to mention Thomasin.

Joanna is nice enough - but feels quite 80's imo, there were several in my year at school (and I've not met any much younger or older, unlike say Sarah, Catherine or Laura).

I suppose since most of the Joanna's were "Jo" ,then Joey as a nn should be doable, but I think you might struggle with Josie (most people will assume Josephine for that).

I really like timeless Alice, and Thomasin is an interesting, kinda cool name (prefer both to Joanna personally).

Love both Alice and Thomasin, which are both on my list. Not personally keen on Joanna, I prefer other -anna names - Rosanna, Marianna, Susannah particularly. But it’s a perfectly fine name and she won’t be one of many.

Do we think Joanna is dreadful ? . I don't Not sure Jo as a nn is dreadful. Joanne more american I think -but Jo as nn for various names is not bad in my book so e.g. Josephine etc

Alice and Josie are nice. I'm not even going to speak about Thomasin. Grin

I really like the sound of Joanna, time for it to come back. It's funny how one letter can make such a difference, as I'm not that keen on Joanne. There was a Queen Joanna once I think (Henry IV's second wife?)

Alice is lovely too. Thomasin I find a bit too obviously derived from Thomas. Which is daft I suppose, as I like Georgina. Tamsin is pretty though.

Josephine is much nicer. Anna is much nicer. Hannah is nice.

Alice is lovely. Thomasina is unusual but rather good.

Joanna is ok but somehow not as good as either Jo or Anna.

It's better than Joanne which is awful.

Oh yeah the male Joe thing is so annoying. My sister has a really common name so could always get keyrings, pencils etc with her name on when we were kids. I always had a choice between Joe (blue/boy stuff), Joanne or ‘they didn’t have your name’ bitter Sad

I agree. Joanna nickname Jo is a great name. But Joey... is awful.

I like Joanna/Johanna.

I know a few Polish Joannas who shorten it to Asia, pronounced Asha.

It's my name though I go by Jo on the whole. Definitely not a fan of being called Joey. The Joanne thing is mildly annoying (as is being written as Joe rather than Jo) but I suspect Joannes get it more the other way round. I like my name but have heard of more boy Joes in the last 15 years or so.

Thinking about it just Anna seems nicer and more classic. I also feel like Joanna is missing a h, but then it's not Jo hanna.

Joanna is my name and I’ve never liked it! It was dated even when I was born in the 90s and I often get called Joanne by mistake. I’ve had various nicknames, Jo, Jojo or Joey but never Josie. So it’s a no from me!

It’s pretty. I like Joey for the nickname, I probably wouldn’t use Josie because I think of that as a nickname for Josephine.

Isn't that's a nn for Josephine?

Joanna is nice, I don't hate it and it's different without being crazy out there.
