Charlotte? bit boring or nice?

Any thoughts on Charlotte? I like it as a name itself, and like Charlie/Lottie as nicknames.
Is it a bit boring though? Seems to be fairly consistently in top 20 names. Do you know many babies called it recently ?

@JosephineDeBeauharnais

It’s a lovely name but unusable in our area because it’s a very downmarket name here. It’s in Gracie-Mae territory.
ooohhh! What area is this? Thanks for comments. I do like it, but a top 20 name may be a little too popular for me, my other child's name is around 120/130 most popular. Maybe use it as a middle name, will think on it!

Lovely. A classic that has stood the test of time.

MissBPotter · 10/04/2021 18:36

I’m not sure it’s a benefit for the child to have an exciting name! Sometimes it can be a burden for life! I like Charlotte and it’s on our list for baby no. 3 if it’s a girl. I do know quite a few my age though which is putting me off a tiny bit.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 10/04/2021 18:35

I find it to be a very faceless name. Anyone could be called Charlotte, the name doesn't stand out or conjure any sort of interest or imagination.

I'm lucky that I have a fairly distinctive surname as nobody ever remembers Charlotte but they remember Charlotte Surname.

I suppose some people don't mind having a name like that but I have actively tried to call my children more unusual names as I always dislike how my name is just... nice and boring and non memorable.

I like it

toastofthetown · 10/04/2021 18:34

It's both - a lot of names fit into the nice but boring caregory. Charlotte has been popular for so long it can hardly be described as exciting. Saying that, it's a fine name and there are some advantages to popular names, not least that they are generally well liked. If it's too boring for isn't something that Mumsnet can answer really.

SquigglePigs · 10/04/2021 18:33

Maybe it isn't the most exciting name on the world but it's beautiful and classic. It was on our shortlist for DD and we went with something similarly classic. I love it.

Spied · 10/04/2021 18:31

Agree with others that it's nice but boring.

3CCC · 10/04/2021 18:31

I really like Charlotte but doubt I'd call my dd it because I know far too many Charlottes myself and I want something a bit more unique

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/04/2021 18:29

Classic rather than boring imo - it just happens to be fairly popular at the moment, but at least it doesn't have a trendy sound. It's not quite as timeless as say Elizabeth or Alice but it's been regularly used over the decades and suits all ages.

One of the benefits of Charlotte is that as well as some cool namesakes (like feminist writers Bronte, Perkins Gilman etc), there's a variety of nn's so she can make it her own - Charlie, Carly, Lottie and Lotte ("Lot -teh"), but she could also conceivably use Callie and even Carrie too.

RosieGirl27 · 10/04/2021 18:29

Bit bland. I had 7 in my year group at primary school.

emmie841 · 10/04/2021 18:18

Love it. Beautiful name x

alexdgr8 · 10/04/2021 18:10

it's a fine name.
go for it.
you have good taste.

Susie477 · 10/04/2021 18:04

It’s both. ‘Nice’ and ‘boring’ are not mutually exclusive when it comes to names, eg :
James
Emily
Thomas
Sarah

Chunkymenrock · 10/04/2021 18:02

Dull and boring. So many other beautiful names to choose from!

AnyaMoondial · 10/04/2021 18:01

It is a bit boring but it does sound nicely different to all lot of other popular girl names.

hazandduck · 10/04/2021 17:59

Boring, sorry. Went to school with about a million of them! In the same sort of league as Hannah and Emma to me.

jessstan2 · 10/04/2021 17:58

It's a lovely, timeless and classic name. Far better to have a name like that than something fancy, modern and contrived.

bootlebum · 10/04/2021 17:57

Very dull and overused

ElsasFrozenVerucca · 10/04/2021 17:57

I love Lottie and Charlotte. Traditional and classic IMO not boring at all. But then I also really like Jane at the moment which others find a bit dull so maybe not a good judge!

babyt2020 · 10/04/2021 17:56

I think it's beautiful and I love both lottie and Charlie. If YOU like it then go for it!

Gemma2019 · 10/04/2021 17:53

I love it, always have. It's a classic.

helpmum2003 · 10/04/2021 17:53

Classic with lovely nn options.

Flymetothestars · 10/04/2021 17:48

Classic. Not boring
