Charlotte? bit boring or nice?

Any thoughts on Charlotte? I like it as a name itself, and like Charlie/Lottie as nicknames.
Is it a bit boring though? Seems to be fairly consistently in top 20 names. Do you know many babies called it recently ?

Classic and lovely!

I think it's a really nice name, quite rare too, I haven't taught a Charlotte in years. Everyone seems to be an Aysha, or Ariana, or Layla, Amelia, Isla or Sophia. The 'A' sound is very popular at the moment, so it's nice to hear something different.

Also like Lottie and Charlie.

Amdone123 · 12/04/2021 11:52

Love it. I like Lottie, not Charlie.

Rainbowandscarlett · 12/04/2021 11:44

I am a Charlotte!
It’s one of those names that are classic but not overused-I’ve only ever met 3 others (I work with one so it can get a bit confusing) in my lifetime
I’m told it’s like Emily,Sarah,Lucy,Alice,rose and Sophie
All have stood the test of time and are very pretty
If my parents had called me something else then I would have called one of my daughters it
The only problem my parents had when I was little was teaching me how to spell it!

mogloveseggs · 12/04/2021 11:25

I know a Charlotte who certainly is not boring or bland.
It's a lovely name.
And the name doesn't make the person. If you like it go for it.

KoalaOok · 12/04/2021 11:20

It's popular for a reason. It's certainly better than a lot of the names that are only recently popular. But I'd only choose it if you love it otherwise it's a bit like a sort of default name.

Blughbablugh · 12/04/2021 08:45

We have a Charlotte and love that she has a timeless name. She is 4 and known by Lottie though which we love. We wanted something that could be adaptable and when she's older can be known as Charlotte or Lottie or even Charlie if she wishes. At the moment though she is Lottie.

abitfunny · 12/04/2021 08:42

Bloody boring. Sorry!

newmumwithquestions · 12/04/2021 07:28

I really like it. And like Lottie for a young girl and Charlie for a teenager shortening (when they’d choose themselves anyway!)
But personally I’d avoid anything royal as I think it will date.

iamthesandstorm · 12/04/2021 07:13

It's timeless and beautiful!

Roselilly36 · 12/04/2021 07:09

I love the name Charlotte, I also like Laura, Rebecca, Emily, Sarah. Classic, timeless names.

MaryShelley1818 · 12/04/2021 05:37

Beautiful but I love classic names.
My baby DD's middle name is Charlotte.

Teawithcrumpets · 12/04/2021 02:20

My little girl is Charlotte (Lottie) so it goes without saying that I think it’s a beautiful name! Honestly, I just wanted her to have a classic name. It might be boring to some but to me it’s timeless ☺️

Ejm02 · 11/04/2021 21:58

Lovely!
I like Lottie for short!

LittleGwyneth · 11/04/2021 19:28

I think it's an unselfish name - giving your child a lovely classic name which isn't about showing off how different you are.

MadeOfStarStuff · 11/04/2021 19:22

Beautiful and classic

AvonCallingBarksdale · 11/04/2021 17:01

Lovely, classic name. If it has to be shortened, then I prefer Lotte to Charlie. It’s in the same realm as Elizabeth, Alice, Clara.

jessstan2 · 11/04/2021 16:58

I've never known anyone called 'Gracie-Mae', honestly.

Charlotte is a name that will never cause embarrassment to a child at school. It's lovely.

VanillaAndOrange · 11/04/2021 14:00

One of my all-time favourites and I have a very nice relative with that name who has made me like it even more.

Changingwiththetimes · 11/04/2021 13:39

My sister used it because where she lives (abroad) it's not common, and I was like 'oh no it's way too popular'. But there's no Charlottes in my son's year, but there is one in my daughter's year. Freya and Ruby are more popular here, there's one in every year it seems.

KirstenBlest · 11/04/2021 13:34

Classic. Fairly safe but nice.

daffodilsandprimroses · 11/04/2021 11:58

It’s one of my favourite girls names - I’ve only ever known lovely Charlotte’s.

MyCatHatesOtherCats · 11/04/2021 11:55

Lovely, classic name with good nickname potential. Not boring at all!

Don’t be put off by top 20 popularity - both my DC have names in the 20-30 range. With DC1, I know one other a year or so older who’s a family friend’s child, and have met one in a playground. I know someone from work whose child has the same name as DC2. That’s it.

The names I know multiples of include Thomas, Louis, Louie and Emily. That’s about it.

PollyThePony · 11/04/2021 11:49

I also think it's both! Nice and a bit boring. Lottie I think can be a bit Gracie-Mae, as a pp says. But probably depends on where you live.

Similar vibe; how about Emma or Alice?

SavannahLands · 11/04/2021 11:47

It's a Classic, my youngest Daughter has it as a middle name, mainly because Lottie would have Rymed with our Surname!

I dislike fashion names simply because they give an indication to a person's age once they are long gone from the popularity list.
I have a Cousin called Paige, she hates it for that reason, and uses her middle name instead. My eldest Daughter dislikes the fact that she married a man with just about the most common Surname in the Uk, and that I gave her the then Fashionable most popular late 70s Girls name combination!

She's known by her friends as a Nickname now, but official forms and ID listings can be a nightmare!

campion · 10/04/2021 18:40

Lovely classic name.
A name doesn't have to stand out. Your personality will.
