Girls names that are a little bit different

Absolutely love Delphi and hebe. not that keen on the others but wouldn't think they were horrid names. Everyone had different tastes. People probably think my kids names are odd

Immediate honest reaction (if you think about these things too much you can get swayed):

Noor - nice but imagine when they hit two 'nooooo Nooooor'
Thisbe - frisby
Delphi - like Delphine but with a typo
Hebe - nice but don't know how to pronounce (heebee or hibi??)
Elke - el-kah - a bit safari park but quite nice
Roksana - no
Corisande - a foreign language word for coriander?
Cordis - you might want cor-deees but you won't necessarily get it
Aleydis - again no one will know how to pronounce
Ardith - OK but Edith is nice as is
Olwen - quite nice
Sasha - nice but not unusual
Saoirse - eh?
Viviette - sanitary product

Saoirse is lovely but I wouldn't use it without Irish heritage . I went to school with a Saoirse and everyone learned how to spell and pronounce it but it was mangled a lot at the beginning.

Olwen is nice but a bit dated in Wales. Will be mispronounced as Ol-win instead of Ol-when if you're in England - my aunt has a 'wen' name and gets that a lot. Whatever you do, don't let anyone tell you Olwyn is an alternative version - it's the Welsh word for wheel.

Noor is gorgeous. I am familiar with Hebe but would avoid it due to Heebie Jeebies. Thebe would be a nice alternative.

Isn't there a character called Delphi in the Cursed Child? I prefer Delphine, you could gave Delphi as a nickname.

I quite like Elke.

Agree with a PP that a name like Isolde/Iseult may appeal if you want something a little more unusual.

What others said - these names don’t seem unusual/quirky, they seem randomly nabbed from a range of cultures. That can come across as a bit ignorant imo - do you know what Saoirse means? Do you know how often your average Saoirse has their name mangled or misspelled? Seems an odd choice in the name of difference.

I grew up in South Africa with a white friend whose mother had decided to give her a Zulu name just because. I witnessed 20 years of the poor girl having to give the same spiel every time she met anyone new. Just why? You’re not the one who has to live with the name.

Hebe and Delphi(e) I have come across before and think are okay. I kind of like Ardith but would pick Edith over it.

Bit of an odd selection - including Arabic, Ancient Greek, E.Europe, German, Welsh, Irish.

Which of these do you actually have personal association with? That would help narrow it down.

Of your random list I like - Noor, Delphi, Saorise. Would depend on your connections.

I absolutely love Corisande - never would have made the coriander association! To me Corisande is a very romantic/poetic sounding name.

Also quite like Thisbe, Delphi, Sasha, Saoirse, and Olwen but not so keen on the sounds of the others.

From your list I love Saoirse but don’t think it’s that unusual really. Hebe’s cute too although I’d never use it.

I love Aleydis. I think it’s an old Dutch/Flemish version of Alice? Roxana is nice, an unremarkable name where I live, and Roxanas are 40something rather than young. Elke is a 1979s German porn star with long hair and a huge bush.

Olwen and Corisande are quite nice.

Sasha not unusual but nice.

Delphi ok

Hebe classic

Others are no.

Elke - el-kah - I would find it difficult to live with a name that you have to explain all the time, but perhaps that's just me
Roksana - prefer Roxana, which is lovely

Viviette - not sure, think it would grow on me

Some of these are lovely. Olwen, Delphi, Saoirse I really like. Elke is common in Germany.
