And also Julia is a name that is never achingly cool but never goes out of fashion either - it's an elegant, grown-up name that will stand out among all the Millies and Lilies and Freyas and Islas. (All nice names, of course, but very now - Julia won't date.)

Biscuitsneeded · 11/04/2021 15:14

Julia is gorgeous.

JoyMyNameIsJoy · 11/04/2021 15:13

NOT Joy!
As people say, it's horrible to have to live up to, and people expect exuberance at all times... Hmm

It's very popular as a middle name though.

Amdone123 · 11/04/2021 15:05

I really like Julia. Also like the Italian spelling Giulia, pronounced the same way.

Wigeon · 11/04/2021 15:04

Definitely Julia. I’d hate to be lumbered with being called Joy - every time you weren’t ecstaticly happy, people would make a joke.

Appletreehat · 11/04/2021 14:57

Julia is a lovely name.

VanillaAndOrange · 11/04/2021 14:55

I like Joy but I love Julia. I don't think it's dated, think it's one of those names but has never been either massively popular or massively unpopular. It's a bit like Anna - it would fit in in any generation, even if it was slightly unusual.

AnnaSW1 · 06/04/2021 20:57

Julia.

Saltyslug · 06/04/2021 20:49

Joy is great. Also faith and hope as names

OtherwiseKnownAsSheilaTh3Great · 06/04/2021 20:45

I'm not sure if the name Julia is 'incredibly rare?' It's not common these days among young children because it's so dated in my opinion. It's boring and 70s and a name that you'd expect on a woman in her 40s.

Bet you can't guess what my name is eh? Grin I am known as Jules by everyone

I don't like Joy either. Not due a revival.

OwlBasket · 06/04/2021 20:42

Juliana?

I love Joy but would only use it as a nn.

GoToSleepBabyPlease · 06/04/2021 20:20

Julia Joy?

JJ?

salcombebabe · 06/04/2021 20:19

Julia! I’m a Julia too and love my name and that it’s so uncommon

Fabuleuse · 06/04/2021 20:18

Julia. It was our girl name (had two boys).

HappyGoPlucky · 06/04/2021 20:07

Julia! It's my name! It wasn't very common growing up and is incredibly rare now. There are a surprising number of songs about Julia, considering there aren't that many of us about. I love The Beatles' Julia.
Have to say Joy is a lovely name too though.

Lnix · 06/04/2021 20:01

Absolutely love Julia. Timeless and beautiful. I like the idea of Joy but when I say it too many times it sounds like 'Joey' as in Joey from Friends. 🙈😅

belle002 · 06/04/2021 19:58

Julia is lovely and elegant. I love Juliet too.

DramaAlpaca · 06/04/2021 19:56

Julia. It's a beautiful, strong, elegant name with a distinguished history.

NaToth · 06/04/2021 17:04

Another vote for Julia, but I'm biased. Ours is also known as Jay.

JemimaJoy · 06/04/2021 17:01

Joy 😍😍😍

Edenember · 06/04/2021 16:21

Joy, but if the alternative was Juliet rather than Julia I would’ve picked that.

Oneearringlost · 06/04/2021 16:20

Julia most definitely
It has gravitas and is classic. Beautiful.
Joy...no, Joya, maybe, Juliet, Juliette, lovely again.

vampirethriller · 06/04/2021 16:15

Julia

Sexnotgender · 06/04/2021 16:13

@Violetlavenders

Love both!
Me too 🙄😂😫

I think I’m leaning towards Julia.
