Would you choose Kit or Harris?

My final poll.. I think I’ve got there in the end and have eventually got my favourite two name options 🙌🏼
We live in Scotland so there’s a huge difference in popularity between the names. Harris was 6th last year and Kit was 372nd (although I know some will be registered as another name).
For years we presumed if our first baby was a boy he’d be Harris but had no idea it was anywhere near the top 10 because we don’t know any! It put us off slightly and I went looking for other names but never really found anything I loved 🙄 Kit is the only other one we’re considering now. So without mentioning the thing about how in England Harris is some sort of cockney rhyming slang 🤷🏼‍♀️ (which no one in Scotland has ever heard of 😂).. what would you go for? 😊 X

@Starryskiesinthesky

Glad you have decided on Harris. Also like you saying about whether it is used out with Scotland. That is another Scottishism! English folk don’t say outwith!
😂🙈

Think it’s the best choice! Would feel weird to call him anything else

@SmiledWithTheRisingSun

Or Fin or Max or Zac if you like 3 letter names?
Finn is one of my favourites but is already taken in my family

What about Harrison?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 07/04/2021 21:21

Harris sounds like a surname to me.
I'd go with Kit.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 07/04/2021 17:33

Harris is lovely (I'm Scottish). Good choice OP. Kit is the car in Knight Rider.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 07/04/2021 17:24

Personally I've always liked Kit. The name doesn't seem to have done Kit Harrington any harm....

zukiecat · 07/04/2021 17:19

I'm Scottish and I don't like Harris at all.

Much prefer Kit.

GertrudeTheGreat · 07/04/2021 17:15

Oh you've decided! Good choice

GertrudeTheGreat · 07/04/2021 17:15

Harris

mamablondie33 · 07/04/2021 15:53

I love Kit! Also English. But there’s too many Harry/Harris/Harrisons around. Kit is a bit trendy but it’s so much nicer IMO.

Violetlavenders · 07/04/2021 14:03

Great choice! Good luck.

JemimaJoy · 07/04/2021 14:00

Kit

Lockdownbear · 07/04/2021 12:40

Aww lovely, keep well and enjoy this really exciting time in your life!

sarah13xx · 07/04/2021 12:37

@Lockdownbear

Good choice! When is he due?
Not til July 😊

@EvilOnion

Harris. Harris. Harris!

I'm in Scotland and only ever met 1 Kit made me think of a sweaty P.E kit and he mostly got called KitKat or Kitty at school...

I think it’s decided! Harris it is

Kit is a nickname. Choose a real name and then use Kit if you like.

I love Harris. It's quite popular in Scotland though if that would put you off. I'm not keen on kit at all.

MangosteenSoda · 07/04/2021 08:43

Definitely choose Harris because it’s your clear favourite.

I like both btw.

Never come across a Scottish Harris before. I only know it as a muslim boy’s name (Haris, just one ‘r’) and have always thought it nice.

littleburn · 07/04/2021 08:42

I like Kit because the first time I heard it was Kit (Christopher) Marlowe, so it has a literary provenience for me, (although due to a PP I've now made the link with Knight Rider Grin). I'm not a fan of using the usually more cute diminutive as the 'official' birth certificate name though, as it limits preferred name options when they're older.

I do like Harris too. For what it's worth I'm English (live in the Midlands) and haven't come across Harris used as slang for anything!

sarah13xx · 07/04/2021 08:33

@Jack1975

My 9 year old son is call Harris. My hubby picked the name Harris after Steve Harris from Iron Maiden (Hubby a massive Iron Maiden fan lol) I'm Scottish (long long time ago), hubby is English and son born in Wales :-)
Aw it’s lovely, didn’t know if people out with Scotland used it 😊 I think that’s what we’re going to go for
