I like it. It makes me think of the river Hudson or Hudson Hawke. If you like it use it. People have strong feelings about names, the fact is once people know your child they will love him and his name.

I know two Hudsons! One in their fifties and one just turned five. It's grown on me. I definitely think of the river, but in a positive way.

I like it. I’ve never met any so it doesn’t really have a vibe to me, I would just think of the Hudson River.

My great aunt had a big soppy ram called Hudson so I think of him.

It's not even a particularly nice surname tbh so can't understand why you would want to use it as a first name

I don’t think so! It certainly flows through some very beautiful parts of NY state.

I suppose I don’t think of rivers as inspiration for names, in the same way I wouldn’t use Thames / Mississippi / Seine. Shannon would be the exception, perhaps.

@Adventing this was my take on it too, I know it’s not for everyone but I’m not a big fan of traditional names. Reassuring to see someone else makes the same kind of associations anyway :)

I think river or missionary. I like it, its unusual without being 'unique', easy to pronounce and suits different ages imo

Marmite name IMO. I first came across it a decade ago and didn't like it and would never use it. The parents referred to im as Udson, consciously dropping the H as it was apparently posher Hmm. Another child was Rafe (pronounced Raff-ay-uh). The children's surname was a mash-up of both parents and double-barrelled to boot. Seemed like too much effort to me.

I’m not keen, but then I don’t tend to like surname-type names in general. It has American or servant vibes (Upstairs Downstairs). It’s fine.

@IamnotwhouthinkIam Hugo is too similar to our other child’s name but I do like it

DS is friends with one (preschool age). He is a sweet boy but I always think ‘river’ when I hear his name.

Not keen on the "Hud" part personally - sounds doughy. It clearly means "Hugh's son", so would you consider classic Hugh? Or Hugo if you want something more trendy sounding? If it's the cool factor/surname vibe you want then Heath is very nice. Or if you like the "un" sound of Hudson, then Harrison, Jensen, and Sullivan have a nicer sound imo.

It’s not bad but seems quite American to me. I haven’t met any Hudsons so wouldn’t say it’s popular.
