Boys name help!

Me again 🙋🏼‍♀️😂 please help (again). We’ve been going round in circles with this list of names:

Harris - always been our favourite but it’s suddenly at number 6 in Scotland when we go to have a baby! Was really hoping for something less popular
Kit - I love this name, my partner likes it but might take a bit more convincing. I’m a teacher and there’s a Kit at my school. Today another adult heard his name for the first time and said ‘Kit? I thought that was a girls name’. I was 99% convinced this was the name but I’m now doubting it too!
Jenson - this is almost at number 200 on the Scottish list for 2020 (only 23 born last year) but this week I heard there is a baby in our town called it 🤦🏼‍♀️
Fergus - it’s at number 104. My partner loves this name. I like it and think it would depend what he looked like whether he’d suit it.

Thoughts or any other suggestions? Really just want to settle on something now!

I know what you mean OP. I overheard someone say the name I had picked was very stuck up (not to me and they had no idea I was pregnant). It put me right off as I couldn't get the comment out my head. I had a girl though so it wasn't a problem in the end.
Glad it’s not just me 😂 people will have an opinion one way or another whatever I call him I suppose and that person could be the only one who thinks it’s a girls name 🤷🏼‍♀️ Hard to avoid though when people are actively bringing up names in conversation and saying things about them.. I just had to act casual like I somehow thought it was maybe a girls name too in case they were suspicious 🤣 inside secretly gutted

I’ve got a seven year old Kit and only met one more since I had him. I think it is getting more popular now but I think seven years ago it was perhaps a bit less popular!
His name is Kit not Christopher though.
He loves his name so that’s good!

Did the person who thought Kit was a girl’s name mishear it as Kate?
I like Harris and Fergus best of your names.

Kit is totally a boy’s name! Gosh don’t let one idiot comment put you off.

I’d choose that, it’s lovely. Really don’t like Harris, I know it’s traditional but the reason it’s popular right now is because it veers VERY close to the trend for surname names in boys which I hate - so harsh (Riley, Jackson, Harrison etc). Yuk.

Not Fergus, but love Fraser.

I know, just wish I hadn’t heard it 🙈 now when I say at work that’s my baby’s name I’m going to know what they think but oh well 🤣 Yeah the popularity thing is really putting me off Harris, just have always loved it and if we had a girl next it would go well with the name we’ve always had picked out for her but I’m sure Kit would go just as well

Harris is very popular, I must know at least 5 under the age of 10 in Glasgow alone.
It's lovely but I prefer something not so popular.

Think I agree about the Harris thing. I didn’t know it was popular because there had only ever been one at my school but suddenly in the last year I know at least two other people who have called their babies Harris and I was out a walk the other day and a wee boy about 3 had ‘Harris’ on the front of his hat so I thought it’s clearly very common in under 5s just now 🤦🏼‍♀️ I wish I liked the full name options for Kit more. I considered Killian or something, although I know that would be less associated with Kit

Oh no, maybe he’ll change his mind when he’s older. I think if we went for it we’d maybe just put Kit on the birth certificate

I like all the names in your post.

My only advice to you is to choose a name you love. Honestly, it really won't matter if it's popular - I speak from experience here. I think you'll regret not choosing a name you really love. And don't listen to anyone else's opinion on your chosen name, go with your gut.

Have you chosen a middle name yet?
No it might be Kelvin or could be Harris if we didn’t use Harris as a first name. Just depends what the first name is I think

Elliot and Murray are in my top 10 too! Murray I’ve kind of ruled out though because it sounds a bit like our second name

Fergus, Fergus, Fergus! I love it.

Harris is a great name too. One of my DDs had a lovely friend called Harris when she was little so I gave very positive associations with it.

I like Kit but it's quite trendy so I wonder if it will date.

Magnus instead of Fergus? Gives him the option of Max as well as Gus when he's older and has cool Scandi vibes as well as Scottish ones. Other Scots names I love are Alasdair, Fraser (bit popular?) and Laith.

Of your choices, I like Kit best - though it is quite unisex (which is why I personally prefer it with a longer version on the BC), but it's a lovely name imo.

Yeah I know, I think maybe the Kitty thing but I personally have never heard of a girl called it 🤔 I hadn’t heard the name Kit before Colleen Rooney used it and in combination with her other ‘K’ names I wasn’t overly fussed on it but since meeting a Kit I actually do really like it and our second name is long so I think a short first name works quite well

Pick your favourite. You may know one or two with it but you’ve no control over how many you may hear of a name after you’ve named your baby it. So if you pick your second or third favourite because it is rarer then two weeks after having him hear of another baby with the same name, you’ll have given up your more loved name for nothing.

Kit is a boy’s name. Don’t let the comment put you off if this is the one for you.

Thanks 😊 this is very true! If I had gone with this attitude at the start I would have just chosen Harris like we said we would but now I really do like Kit as well because I’ve spent so long debating it 🙈
