Too many princess names?

twinmama2021 · 01/04/2021 11:21

We have an older daughter (6) called Arabella and are expecting twins any day now really. We are struggling so much on their names and had settled on Audrey & Quinn but are now considering Aurora to replace one of those two names.
But, my question is, is having Aurora and Arabella(Belle) too many princess names / does it sound like we spend all our time watching Disney+?!

I prefer Quinn to Aurora, it’s a stronger name. I think Aurora is too twee. Aurelia is nicer.
If anything I’d change Audrey so that you don’t have two dds with the same initial.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 01/04/2021 14:04

How about Wren instead of Quinn?

Enko · 01/04/2021 14:01

Audrey and Aurora is a mouthful Quinn is gorgeous I would go Quin and Audrey personally,

I do love the suggestion of Aubrey though

DarkMatterA2Z · 01/04/2021 13:55

I think Quinn is a great name, but it doesn't really "go" with Arabella and Aurora/Audrey.

Since it was your first choice, I would keep Quinn and find a nice 2-syllable name which bridges the gap between Arabella and Quinn. Something like Hallie, Thea, Ivy or Beatrix. I would stay away from 'A' names and give each girl their own initial.

CloudFormations · 01/04/2021 13:53

I really don’t like Aurora - Audrey is much nicer!

I don’t love Quinn but it’s recognisably a girl’s name even in the U.K. (perhaps thanks to Glee). The issue I have with it is it’s very close to a very rude word (quim) but that’s a very old fashioned term which lots of people may not think of when they hear Quinn.

sHREDDIES19 · 01/04/2021 13:52

Sorry to sound negative (perhaps I shouldn't have bothered putting my snout in!) but as a few others have said, I think two things: Quinn the twin and sounds just like Quim. Both rather unfortunate. But having said that if it's something you like and a more usual name in the states then go for it. Aurora is a mouthful and easy to get tongue tied plus very princessy. Audrey - I immediately think of Audrey Roberts from Coronation Street! But again probably not a massive Corrie following in the States. Ultimately it's your choice, wouldn't be names I would go for in a million years but at the same time if I came across someone with those names, it's not going to impact my day in any way.

Violetlavenders · 01/04/2021 13:51

One of the twins will definitely be an A name, so will share an initial with our eldest, Arabella.

But your 3rd dd will feel left out if her initial doesn't start with A! I'd give all 3 the same initial or none the same.

WithASpider · 01/04/2021 13:46

I remember your other thread.

I love Quinn, wonderful name for a girl. If I wasn't such a Gleek then I might have used it for a DD!

I'm not sold on Audrey, but really dislike Aurora. It's a real mouthful and I honestly think 3 A initial daughters will get annoying fast.

Would you change Audrey?

Spied · 01/04/2021 13:43

I'm sorry but Quinn the twin is a definite short-straw.
I prefer Audrey to Aurora.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 01/04/2021 13:40

Audrey and Quinn are so cool! Aurora is so overdone it seems a bit naff now. One of those names that only seems beautiful when rare.

Also think you can't have Aurora and Arabella (both very frilly) and then a Quinn. It seems a bit odd to have two super frilly girly names and then one short unisex name of a totally different style.

Audrey, Arabella and Quinn are all very different styles but in a cool way. To have one 'odd one out' would be very noticable.

Also, to have ab Arabella, Aurora and Audrey might seem a bit Kardashian so also a no-no imo.

DarkMatterA2Z · 01/04/2021 13:39

Aurora is quite difficult to say. I have a speech impediment which means I really struggle with it (also with Rory). Not a reason for you to avoid it, but I'd definitely stick with Audrey and Quinn.

Rukaya · 01/04/2021 13:32

So you would go with Audrey & Aurora?

No, way too much of a mouthful

fizzandchips · 01/04/2021 13:31

OP - you are over thinking this!
Your choice of names for your children so far are fantastic and Quinn - is brilliant and significant as a family name, but Aurora really has been ‘done’. Quinn can be a ballerina or an engineer, as can Bella, but Aurora seems overly girlie in contrast.
Stick with Quinn or alternatively Alexandra with nn Sandy or Xandra?

twinmama2021 · 01/04/2021 13:17

One of the twins will definitely be an A name, so will share an initial with our eldest, Arabella.

I’m worried that if we choose Quinn over the second A name, she’ll feel left out and since many people have said that she’ll have drawn the short straw, I’m now worried about that, too.

See, I think Alex and Lexie are good nns for Alexandra and she would almost definitely be called one or other by friends.

What about Auden? Similar to Audrey, still a pretty name, more unisex like Quinn, and “goes” with the other dc names (imo).

SquigglePigs · 01/04/2021 13:07

I'm not going to comment on the names as such but just a thought on initials - sharing an initial with a parent isn't too bad (I share an initial with my DD) as post is Mrs X Name and Miss X Name, but siblings who share initials with all be addressed as Miss A Name. Might not be an issue when they are little and you open all their post but when they are older, things like college acceptance letters etc. they could end up opening each others and it could cause some hurt feelings etc. Or if one had a letter from a Dr and they didn't want their siblings knowing about something either at all or before them.

PS I think all your name choices are lovely

GiggleMcdimples21 · 01/04/2021 13:05

Just putting it out there from your middle names: Audrey and Alexandra with Quinn as the middle name for both of them.

twinmama2021 · 01/04/2021 13:05

I love love love Alexandra but don’t like Alex or Lexie so would be constantly afraid of the potential nicknames!!

Stichintime · 01/04/2021 13:04

Wheres your twin, Quinn?

twinmama2021 · 01/04/2021 13:02

Also, my 6yo and her friends are all much more into tangled, frozen, maleficent etc than sleeping beauty, so I’m quite certain that she wouldn’t actually know who Aurora was, if I asked.

babbaloushka · 01/04/2021 13:01

Quinn and Alexandra is also lovely, or if you decide you want two A names for the twins, Audrey and Alexandra are really nice without being "matchy". You'd want your twins to be able to establish themselves as individuals.

Violetlavenders · 01/04/2021 12:59

*I think Arabella, Aurora and Audrey is lovely

I think of Arabella as a fantastic aristocratic Scottish name and Aurora as the Roman goddess of dawn - those associations are centuries old and will last a lot longer than any Disney association.

I like the 3 As.

I am not keen on Quinn*

I agree.

TheMethodicalMeerkat · 01/04/2021 12:59

For me three A names is too much but I wouldn’t hugely worry about other peoples views on that.

I remember your previous thread and I actually really like Quinn for a girl. It’s just that the other dc names are very girly/princessy so when you read or hear all three together Quinn by comparison to the other two sounds distinctly boyish if that makes sense. Slightly we thought we were having boy girl twins but stuck with the names anyway.

If you love Quinn stick with it as you’ll probably regret it if you don’t but maybe something more unisex or at least less princess sounding for the other twin?

TatianaBis · 01/04/2021 12:58

Far too Disney and it would honestly make me think you were tacky and/or a simpleton. (For what it’s worth Audrey is actually the name of Aurora’s daughter in Descendants which is the next-gen Disney universe so it really would be OTT 😂)

It's knowing this much about Disney that is tacky, surely.

babbaloushka · 01/04/2021 12:58

Quinn and Aurora is much better than Audrey and Aurora, if you're deciding between the two, but I prefer Quinn and Audrey over both. There's a lovely song by Bread that made me fall in love with the name Audrey, it's beautiful.
