Too many princess names?

twinmama2021 · 01/04/2021 11:21

We have an older daughter (6) called Arabella and are expecting twins any day now really. We are struggling so much on their names and had settled on Audrey & Quinn but are now considering Aurora to replace one of those two names.
But, my question is, is having Aurora and Arabella(Belle) too many princess names / does it sound like we spend all our time watching Disney+?!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I would never have 2 children with the same initial. As they get older, post will be a nightmare, and they’ll be constantly opening each others mail
I have 2 with the same initial, it is not and never has been a problem of any kind. They have no issues with mail, ever.

Ohdoleavemealone · 01/04/2021 15:35

Quinn to me is a boys name but as you will be back in the US by the time the baby starts school I don't think it matters.

cordelia16 · 01/04/2021 15:30

Just saw your updates.

Not sure why you're set on one of the twins having an A name. Why not give each girl a unique initial letter, the same way you did with your boys? Two A names will leave one twin feeling left out, and three A names would just be so confusing.

Arabella, Audrey, and Aurora all sound so similar. There are so many beautiful non-A names out there. I suggest keeping Quinn (which I like), and then finding an alternative for Audrey/Aurora.

Derbee · 01/04/2021 15:24

I would never have 2 children with the same initial. As they get older, post will be a nightmare, and they’ll be constantly opening each others mail. Never thought it as an issue until I met my DP at uni, and him and his brother were always opening each others bank statements etc

Pemba · 01/04/2021 15:18

Sorry, I know you love it, and I know Quinn is used as a girls' name in the US, but really it is nothing more than a surname (Irish I think), and to me it doesn't have an attractive sound at all.

And I can't help thinking that with two sisters with such girly, princessy names, little Quinn would feel that she has got the short straw, as you feared. Couldn't you just use it for a middle, if you're so attached to the name?

cordelia16 · 01/04/2021 15:17

I definitely prefer Audrey to Aurora.

BUT, if you use one of those names, pls keep in mind that Arabella and one of the twins (Audrey or Aurora) would share an initial letter. Wondering if that would make Quinn feel left out. Her twin sister and her big sister both get A names, but she doesn't.

In that case, I would find a different name for Audrey/Aurora that doesn't start with an A. What about Sabrina?

laughoutquiet · 01/04/2021 15:17

Audrey and Quinn.

Love these!

karenvand · 01/04/2021 15:15

Have a look here twin girl names that comes with Arabella

MsJuniper · 01/04/2021 15:13

I really like Quinn, can see her being really cool as a teen.

What about Audra? A little less Disney than Aurora and with the same number of letters as Quinn.

Nancydrawn · 01/04/2021 15:12

Aurora will not go over well in Greenwich.

10 to 1 she gets called Rory.

If you must name them all A names, go for a classic: Alice, Abigail, Anne, Amelia. Or I guess classical? Athena, Aurelia, Allegra. I'm still also a fan of Astrid.

If you don't like Alexandra, you can always try Alessandra. (Say it's after Alessandra Ferri rather than Alessanda Ambrosio.) Nicknames there are harder to control.

Quinn is far, far, far better than Aurora. It also means a lot to you. I'd keep it. If you're moving back to America in 3 years, you know Quinn won't seem weird.

Finally, I'd say it's a bit odd that you want your daughters to have the same initial while your sons get to have their own. I think that feels weird. If it were me, I'd keep Quinn and ditch Audrey.

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 01/04/2021 15:11

I'd rather be a Quinn myself than an Audrey, so would vote Quinn!

OysterMonkey · 01/04/2021 15:09

I think Arabella, Felix, Hugo and Audrey are a very similar type of name.
Quinn is different. But it’s fab that both your grandmothers are Quinns, so I totally see why you want to use it.
But I think I’d try to find another name that goes with Quinn. Not matchy matchy, as I think that’s crap for twins. But just fits better with Quinn.
It needs to be something a bit less classic.
Your other kids’ names are definitely classic, as is Audrey. And Quinn, whilst lovely, isn’t.

Chocoqueen · 01/04/2021 14:54

I remember your previous thread. Honestly, please ignore all the negative comments you got about Quinn, LITERALLY NO ONE uses 'quim' anymore. I'm British and the first I heard the word was on your thread. And I bet 99% of people would agree. I've also only ever heard Quinn as a girls name. Please stick with Quinn as a lovely family name.

I prefer Audrey to Aurora. Though I am ever so slightly disappointed you didn't go for Pippilotta. It was really growing on me towards the end.

RedGoldAndGreene · 01/04/2021 14:53

I think you should use Quinn - you're American so the same names don't apply. Quinn would be presumably a preschooler when she lived here so I'd doubt she'd hear any negativity. After that kids might say Harley Quinn but not the other associations that adults would have.

Belle and Aurora is too Disney. You'd have to call the third girl a Disney name like Briar Rose Grin
3A names would be very Kardashian and tacky imo and strange when the boys have different initials,

ImAbsolutelyTwatted · 01/04/2021 14:48

Haven't read through all the reply's yet but just came on to say that I'm in the uk and have a Quinn. Had nothing but compliments regarding her name and she totally suits it. I love Audrey & Quinn together and it's a lovely fit with your other DC.

Chunkymenrock · 01/04/2021 14:47

Please don't choose Aurora. Its such an ugly 'roar roar roar' sound.Sad

tuttifuckinfruity · 01/04/2021 14:43

@twinmama2021

One of the twins will definitely be an A name, so will share an initial with our eldest, Arabella.

I’m worried that if we choose Quinn over the second A name, she’ll feel left out and since many people have said that she’ll have drawn the short straw, I’m now worried about that, too.

I really disagree with that. That's personal preference. I really dislike frilly, feminine names. They might all wish they had been named Quinn.

They might be tomboys 🤷‍♀️

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 01/04/2021 14:42

I would steer very clear of matching initials for the twins. It's imperative that twins are able to develop their own identities and that starts with the parents not treating them as a pair. Matching names reinforce the idea that theyre a set and not two individuals .

tuttifuckinfruity · 01/04/2021 14:40

I saw your previous thread. There is nothing wrong with the name Quinn, don't let those comments put you off.

It is a surname over here and can be used as a first name for a boy or girl. That's as far as it goes; it really doesn't have any negative connotations for most people.

And yes; I think Aurora and Arabella would be too princessy. Aurora even on its own is just too much, in my opinion.

Violetlavenders · 01/04/2021 14:29

I’m just worried that in going for Quinn, she’ll feel like she’s got the more ‘masculine name’ compared to either Arabella and Audrey or Arabella and Aurora.

I think you're justified in thinking that. I'd hate to be called Quinn when my sisters have such beautiful and feminine names as Arabella, Aurora and Audrey.

nitsandwormsdodger · 01/04/2021 14:29

Sibling names do not need to "go"" together" I have not once in the last 4o year's had to introduce myself in relation to my siblings
Twins maybe bit more
If staying in uk id drop quinn as makes me think of quim

GiggleMcdimples21 · 01/04/2021 14:26

I think in that instance you either go for 2 'masculine'/unisex names i.e. Quinn & similar , or go with 2 feminine names like Audrey & similar (still not keen on Aurora, but that is subjective ofcourse)

twinmama2021 · 01/04/2021 14:19

Yes the middle names are definitely up for debate in terms of who gets which.

I’m just worried that in going for Quinn, she’ll feel like she’s got the more ‘masculine name’ compared to either Arabella and Audrey or Arabella and Aurora. We’ve also been told a few times that Felix and Hugo are on the ‘softer’ side of boys names (compared to, say, John, Patrick, etc) so I’m worried about her feeling different.

I think Audrey is nice. Aurora is okay, very disney-ish. Quinn sounds like a beauty pageant name but as you are planning to move back to USA eventually it should be fine as it's such a popular name there

SE13Mummy · 01/04/2021 14:12

You have a brilliant reason for wanting to use Quinn for one of your girls, it would be a shame to give that up now. Baby Quinn gets her grandmothers' name and Baby Audrey gets to share an initial with her big sister.

Having taught a number of sets of twins, I would say that those with less matchy names seem to have an easier job of being recognised as individuals than those whose names match e.g. they rhyme or have the same first initial. Others have already mentioned the matching initials dilemma with items of post and I'd say this is definitely worth thinking about. My two DDs have ended up with very similar initials e.g. ABC SE13 and BAC SE13. When we receive post from the bank and from Premium Bonds for them, it sometimes takes us a while to process which child's account it is because the letter is addressed to Miss ABC SE13, their first names aren't used. There's enough of an age gap between our two that it is unlikely to ever be an issue with college application letters, medical letters etc but it's worth being aware of.

Would you consider giving Quinn a middle name that begins with an A instead? Could she have Alexandra or Aurora instead of Catherine?
