Too many princess names?

twinmama2021 · 01/04/2021 11:21

We have an older daughter (6) called Arabella and are expecting twins any day now really. We are struggling so much on their names and had settled on Audrey & Quinn but are now considering Aurora to replace one of those two names.
But, my question is, is having Aurora and Arabella(Belle) too many princess names / does it sound like we spend all our time watching Disney+?!

Not keen on audrey or aurora but aubree and rora/rory could work but keep quinn absolutely

BasiliskStare · 02/04/2021 00:14

@twinmama2021 I thought of calling my son Guy - I made the mistake of mentioning it - & my SIL just immediately said "Oh Guy the Gorilla" - it stuck with me at the time so did not use it. I sort of regret it now ( although I like my son's name now - not Guy) & I am willing to bet it would not have been a problem .

After that we did not tell anyone our choice of names & just introduced baby xxx - never had a comment about it - just what he is called.

Go with your gut feeling OP - it will be utterly fine Flowers

Referencing your post there @SE13Mummy

@twinmama2021 definitely go with Quinn if you want to. She’s your child, and it’s your family name.

Sssloou · 02/04/2021 00:07

With the both grandmothers called Quinn - was it their surname or first name?

What about both girls having Quinn as a second or third name - so that one was called Quinn after one grandma and the other was called Quinn after the other grandma?

We have a few sets of twins in the family and they are always “the twins”

OysterMonkey · 02/04/2021 00:07

Quinn Catherine
Juno Carlotta

Sorted!

RightOnTheEdge · 01/04/2021 23:57

OP do not change a name that means a lot to you because of comments on Mumsnet.
Mumsnet baby name section is a crazy place and nothing like real life!

Quinn would not be called Quim in the playground that is absolutely ridiculous!
I never hear that word outside Mumsnet and definitely not used by kids.

My dd's best friend since nursery is called Quinn (girl) and there is also a boy called Quinn in the school. I have never heard a single negative thing said about either and none of the other kids bat an eyelid over her name.

I have grown up with a name that is used more for girls in the US and is definitely a boys name here I really like it and have had comments all my life about it but never had anyone be mean about it and I love my name. I've have never wished I had a more feminine name.

As for Quinn feeling left out because they haven't got a princessy, girly name maybe she won't be a girly girl!
My dd has never been a princess fan, she's always preferred pirates she'd hate such a frilly name.

Please use your heart and call your girls what you love not what Mumsnet thinks.
It's your life and you will live with it forever.
Don't listen to people who you'll never even meet. People say weird things when they are hiding behind a screen.

BasiliskStare · 01/04/2021 23:28

@twinmama2021 - two of my son's best friends are Felix and Hugo - so you are doing well on the boy front in my book. Grin I trust your judgment

I don't think Audrey is dreary - goodness me - Audrey Hepburn

Aurora I think is harder to say. , and for that reason alone I would think twice . I suspect she will end up being Rory or similar. But then on second thoughts - that's OK & quite nice so maybe a good choice, ... but yes maybe Catherine as a 1st name and then Aurora and then they both get Quinn as a middle name ?

Very very best wishes to you - it will work out just fine - I am prepared to wager on that

How is having a “C” name a fairness thing!? I don’t think you need to choose a matching combination of initials - probably overthinking it there. Just choose other names you like that go with their first name or honour their grandparents/family in some way.

Pbur · 01/04/2021 23:22

Also love Audrey & Quinn - really lovey and elegant individual names and work well as a pair too - very fresh.

Not so keen on Aurora mixed with the others.

Bimblybomeyelash · 01/04/2021 23:19

Oh gosh just use Quinn if you like it!

It’s a name that many Brits wouldn’t use, but you’re American so we’ll allow it!

SE13Mummy · 01/04/2021 23:06

On 18th March you were determined Quinn was the name for one of your twins and I loved how strong and firm you stood against the criticism of a bunch of anonymous strangers. You've said on this thread that Quinn is possibly your most favourite name ever and that you want your children to be thought of as individuals rather than as a set of siblings but your latest name combinations give your identical twin girls Au- C- as their first two names which seems to fly in the face of everything else you've said.

I can't help but think you'll regret not using Quinn if you go for Aurora at this stage. And whilst I think Audrey is lovely in amongst her siblings' names, given that was the name you've only recently decided upon, I wonder if that's the one to change instead. You mentioned that your mum is Stella but that you feel that's too close to Arabella. What about going for a similar name e.g. Estelle, Lucy, Juno or Nova?

Or if it's because you feel Quinn sticks out for being harsh sounding, could you swap Audrey for something with harder consonants e.g. Harriet, Constance, Matilda, Beatrice, Kitty, Verity, Kate or Cleo?

twinmama2021 · 01/04/2021 22:52

We’ve done double middle names for the other three so will do double middle names for the twins as well. Their sister is Arabella Claudia Ines and seeing as we will 100% be using Catherine for one of them, felt it was fair for all three to have C middle names. We had originally chosen Quinn Catherine so that baby B would share a middle initial with big sister Arabella, while baby A would share a first initial with her. But, after some harsh mumsnet comments, we’re feeling unsure about Quinn now.

Bit late to the post but wanted to say that I think Audrey & Quinn are perfect. Not so keen on Aurora as a name itself or with the others. Could Quinn have a more 'girly' middle name she could use when older if she wanted? As a teen and young woman I'd imagine Quinn would be much cooler to have than Aurora.

daisypond · 01/04/2021 21:48

I like Audrey but think Quinn is awful. Aurora is too frilly for me. It matches Arabella but I think the sounds are too similar. Arabella isn’t a Disney name, so the names together can’t be too Disney. I think Quinn would be the short straw. It’s very different to the other names.

pigglepot · 01/04/2021 21:48

OP i really think you should use Quinn as the first name for one twin. It's so fun and individual and you have such a family connection to it it would be such a shame to not use it.

StressedTired · 01/04/2021 21:48

What about giving them both Quinn as a middle name?
Audrey Quinn and Aurora Quinn
Then you can tell both grandmothers they have a baby named after them. Smile
You get to use the name you love twice.

OysterMonkey · 01/04/2021 21:35

I think with twins having names that start Au and both middle names starting C isn’t very individual.
I’d stick with Quinn for one and find another name for the other twin.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 01/04/2021 21:29

I cannot understand the love for Audrey. It is so dreary!

Crockof · 01/04/2021 21:25

If they weren't family names I wouldn't say anything but honestly I think you will regret forever not using Quinn. You've over thought it, for all the arguments of its not girly enough she could love having such a different and personal name.

TatianaBis · 01/04/2021 20:32

Xpost, good luck OP.

TatianaBis · 01/04/2021 20:30

No, they didn’t start as ‘Disney‘ names, they still aren’t ‘Disney‘ names for anyone but those preoccupied with lowbrow shite. If some random person in passing thinks you’ve been named after something you haven’t so what? 🤷🏼‍♀️

That they are not common in Greenwich is a plus in my view.

twinmama2021 · 01/04/2021 20:27

@SatsumaFan

Definitely would avoid 2 x Au starts (Audrey and Aurora)/with names, and even 2 x A-start A-finish (ArabellA and AurorA) .

I only know Audreys over 60 and don't like it. Also not a fan of Aurora (I know too many people who would struggle to say it as the r's would sound like w's - awoarwa).

I like someone else's idea of bridging the gap between Arabella, Felix, Hugo < insert non A name > and Quinn.

You could use Catherine as more syllables, can be shortened to Cat/Kate and has the same sound at start as Quinn. Then use one of your A names in the middle

Catherine Audrey
Catherine Aurora

You're absolutely right tho... Naming humans is the hardest thing in the world! (even harder than cutting newborns nails I reckon).

Maybe write them all down then decide when they're both here depending on what they look like and what suits/fits.

Good luck.

To be honest, I think that’s what we’ll end up doing - writing the name variations down and waiting to see which we think they suit. We’ve temporarily settled on Audrey Charlotte Quinn and Aurora Catherine Sophie But I’m 99% sure that will change multiple times before they arrive.

When our first three were born, we’d had their names and middle names picked out by the end of the first trimester and never wavered once, and haven’t wavered a day since, so I’m putting this indecisiveness down to the fact that there’s two!!

DarkMatterA2Z · 01/04/2021 20:14

I would find having to shout "Aurora" in the playground or park very cumbersome. I would also pronounce it "Awarwa", despite my best efforts, which wouldn't help. Audrey and Quinn are much easier.
