Too many princess names?

twinmama2021 · 01/04/2021 11:21

We have an older daughter (6) called Arabella and are expecting twins any day now really. We are struggling so much on their names and had settled on Audrey & Quinn but are now considering Aurora to replace one of those two names.
But, my question is, is having Aurora and Arabella(Belle) too many princess names / does it sound like we spend all our time watching Disney+?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No one uses post much anymore unless it's friends sending a birthday card and they'd use more than an initial anyway

Flymetothestars · 02/04/2021 09:12

@oftenanumpty most of the big firms anonymise CVs these days because it's been shown that more women / people from minority backgrounds etc are selected for an interview. In 5-10 years time this will be standard across board. It's getting close to that in some industries already

@twinmama2021

My Mum and sister have the same first initial and they’ve never run into issues with having the exact same initials so I’m less worried about this, but thank you for pointing it out! Definitely good to consider/remember.
Your mum & sister wouldn’t so much, being Mrs & Miss, but my sister & I have the same initial & the post thing was annoying enough that I ended up using my middle name if I was ordering things etc.

I wouldn’t worry about reactions to Quinn. Even if a name sounds a bit Hmm to some people at first, it really quickly just becomes that person’s name.

Flymetothestars · 02/04/2021 09:10

I love Audrey! Please keep that one

oftenanumpty · 02/04/2021 09:08

How about looking at it from a different perspective and imagine you are shortlisting your children for their dream job. As much as it shouldn’t, unusual names etc do make a difference on first impressions at interviews and shortlisting etc. If I was interviewing a Quinn, Audrey,Arabella (as an adult I’d imagine they’d go as Ella or Bella) it wouldn’t make me bat an eyelid. I would find it hard to take an Aurora seriously as a professional adult-. There’s little to shorten it to.
Either way though, I would have a shortlist and choose once they’re born. Often a name you choose when pregnant doesn’t suit them when they’re born.
Good luck- I’m sure whatever you choose will be beautiful

SleepingStandingUp · 02/04/2021 09:05

@Wide

I love Aurora but not Audrey as it sounds old and Quinn doesn't seem like a girls name to me,I don't think it matches the other names. Good luck, actually jealous you are having twins
I can lend you some 15 month ones
SleepingStandingUp · 02/04/2021 09:05

@twinmama2021

Yes! That’s us! Quinn is quite possibly my favourite name of all time but (and perhaps this is my fragile pregnancy brain feeling overwhelmed) I can’t stop thinking about all the negative and at times, really unkind comments about the name Quinn and I just don’t want to set my baby girl up for life with a name that doesn’t go over well in the U.K. If we were in the US I wouldn’t be wavering at all but as we’ll be in the U.K. for the next 3 years at least, or until OH is transferred back to NYC, I’m just feeling a little worried :(
Anyone who looks at your beautiful baby girl and thinks about anything except how lovely / nosiy / stinky / etc she is is a dick. My friends son is Quinn, in the UK. I don't know a single person who's ever mentioned anything rude.

I love Aurora incidentally and Aurelia but I'd swap out Audrey personally

Wide · 02/04/2021 09:02

thebestnamehere · 02/04/2021 08:58

Aurora is such a mouthful.

popspops · 02/04/2021 08:53

I would def. go for Quinn but choose a non A name for their twin.

KittyMcKitty · 02/04/2021 08:36

@Starlight39 it seems to be - like you I wouldn’t have thought it was a name which could attract hate but it’s always described as boring, dull, unimaginative, drippy and so on plus overused (interestingly dd is the only one in her year called Emma).

Starlight39 · 02/04/2021 08:28

I really like Quinn! I prefer it to Aurora and also prefer Audrey to Aurora but you could go for Quinn and Aurora nn. Rory so there are 2 unisex type names if you're concerned about that. I think Audrey and Quinn are lovely names together though and go with your other names well. I don't think names need to be too matchy to work.

@KittyMcKitty is Emma hated on here?? It seems such an innocuous name to attract hate! I think it's lovely and was on our shortlist for DD.

KittyMcKitty · 02/04/2021 08:20

@twinmama2021

We’re in London now but are originally from Greenwich, CT. We’ll be here for the next 3 years minimum, and then after that we will return to NYC whenever DH’s company transfers him back. I’m just worried about Quinn not ‘fitting in’ with Arabella, Felix, Hugo & Audrey. I just wonder if Aurora ‘fits in’ better? Maybe I’m just overthinking things.
I think Quinn fits in far better with the other names then Aurora which just sounds a bit flimsy in comparison.

Go with what you love though - people aren’t mean about names in real life tbh I don’t think people think that deeply about them! FWIW my dd (15) is called Emma a name universally hated on MN but she loves it (as do I) so go with what you love.

jobsagudden · 02/04/2021 08:20

I love Arabella, Audrey and Quinn. All gorgeous names. I think Audrey and Quinn go so nicely together and agree with PP that Quinn might be a bit jealous if both other sisters have princess names! Congratulations on your pregnancy.

TheRoaringGirl · 02/04/2021 08:12

Why don't you go with another A name that works with the other two eg

Arabella, Audrey and Ada/Adeline

musicalfrog · 02/04/2021 08:09

I love Quinn actually and think it could be very glamorous! I'd prefer to be Quinn than Audrey personally.

You're worrying about her not having the A initial but are you planning any more babies after this?

StellaOlivetti · 02/04/2021 08:09

Love Audrey. Don’t like Aurora (and find it hard to say). Quinn, I’m not sure how I feel .... on the one hand it’s short and simple and non frilly, on the other hand it’s really a surname that is now used for boys. I appreciate you say it’s non negotiable, but had you considered Quince?

MimiSunshine · 02/04/2021 08:05

Honestly just use Quinn. It’s rising as
A girls name much faster than for boys in the uk.

I like the name Audrey but personally don’t hear / see it as a particularly flowery feminine name as it sounds quite strong with the Dre syllable so I don’t think Quinn would feel left out.

I personally wouldn’t have all three girls with the same initial and definitely not twins but many do like that trend.

There are a few little Riley’s and Perrie’s near me so the surname For a girls name isn’t unusual

Preservethewood · 02/04/2021 08:01

I didn’t see the other thread but Audrey and Quinn are fantastic names! Use them OP!

pigglepot · 02/04/2021 07:55

@Waitingforamate I was exactly the same with name anxiety!! I'm pregnant again and this time I'm really trying to choose the name before the new baby arrives as I found it so stressful last time! Hormones are terrible things! I worried about my daughters name for MONTHS afterwards 😂🤦‍♀️. Love it now though.

seven201 · 02/04/2021 07:46

I know a baby girl Quinn in the uk. It's a lovely name.

I'd go for Audrey personally, just because of the two princess names thing.

Waitingforamate · 02/04/2021 07:42

I love the name Quinn, love love love it. It was on my shortlist for one of my twin girls. Twin pregnancy hormones are raging, I had name doubts for about 8 months afterwards until hormones had settled. All good again now though!
Call you baby girls the names YOU love and they will be those names soon enough.
Again, Quinn is beautiful and strong and you won’t regret using it!

pigglepot · 02/04/2021 07:14

@twinmama2021

We’ve done double middle names for the other three so will do double middle names for the twins as well. Their sister is Arabella Claudia Ines and seeing as we will 100% be using Catherine for one of them, felt it was fair for all three to have C middle names. We had originally chosen Quinn Catherine so that baby B would share a middle initial with big sister Arabella, while baby A would share a first initial with her. But, after some harsh mumsnet comments, we’re feeling unsure about Quinn now.
I honestly don't think you need to consider what is fair when thinking about initials. I can promise you the girls won't see it like that. I agree with other posters and think you should go with your heart. Don't listen to random mumsnetters (me included!) who don't know you and will never meet your lovely girls. You've chosen beautiful names for your other children so you will choose lovely names again for the girls- your original plan of Quinn and Audrey is lovely. Or what about Quinn and Catherine. They sound beautiful together and Catherine may get nn Cat or Kitty which is similarly short and funky in the same way that Quinn is.
BusinessGoose · 02/04/2021 06:50

Hi
I don't get all the people saying Quinn is a boy's name, it is originally a surname (male in origin in ancient Irish/Scots) but I think that makes it fair game for a boy or girl. I love strong, single syllable names for girls. Quinn is a great name, especially so in the US where it is more usually known as a girl's name.
Rory is a cute nickname for Aurora and makes it less sickly sweet but I'm not sure about a twin set of Rory and Quinn.
Arabella and Aurora together is overkill on princesses for sure! They sound like more of a set but not in a good way. Quinn and Audrey sound good together and have their own distinct sound and personality.

SatsumaFan · 02/04/2021 01:34

Belle, Felix, Hugo, Quinn and Juno/Estelle/Catherine/Audrey/Sophie.

Both of my children took two weeks to name after they were born. There's absolutely no rush. Just concentrate on getting through the next few weeks then decide Smile
