Too many princess names?

twinmama2021 · 01/04/2021 11:21

We have an older daughter (6) called Arabella and are expecting twins any day now really. We are struggling so much on their names and had settled on Audrey & Quinn but are now considering Aurora to replace one of those two names.
But, my question is, is having Aurora and Arabella(Belle) too many princess names / does it sound like we spend all our time watching Disney+?!

Think Arabella, Aurora and Audrey work really well

But if you are still considering, what about Adela?

Estasala · 02/04/2021 23:14

Eva is a lovely name. Arabella, Eva and Audrey? Then the names start with an ah, ee, aw sound so they are all distinct.

But if it's between Aurora and Quinn as the first name, 100% Aurora.

Allthebears · 02/04/2021 22:53

Adelaide instead of Aurora?

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 02/04/2021 22:53

@twinmama2021

Also, my 6yo and her friends are all much more into tangled, frozen, maleficent etc than sleeping beauty, so I’m quite certain that she wouldn’t actually know who Aurora was, if I asked.
Maleficent is a spin-off of Sleeping Beauty. Aurora is one of the main characters.

It’s a shame to lose Quinn. You’re fixated on the A initial but Audrey and Aurora are strange pair to me; one is cool and elegant, the other a frilly mouthful.

therocinante · 02/04/2021 22:39

Audrey & Quinn is a gorgeous set. Aurora is definitely too princessy alongside Arabella (although I like Aurora generally).

mathanxiety · 02/04/2021 22:33

I would use Eva and Catherine as first names instead of Audrey and Quinn. They are lovely, and go better with the other names.

mathanxiety · 02/04/2021 22:29

What were your grandmothers' first names?

I feel that in a family with Arabella, Felix, Hugo, and Audrey, Quinn looks like that old Sesame Street song 'one of these things just doesn't belong'.

I think the combination of Aurora and Arabella (Belle) is going to make people think Disney, sorry.

StealthQuin · 02/04/2021 21:50

Just wanted to jump on the thread as my name actually is Quin Grin

Never had any of the problems listed here... love my name and glad it was chosen for me.

If it helps I also come from a family with 2 of the same initials and I’m a Q, have never even thought about it before it was mentioned on this thread Blush

Aurora can always be shortened to Rory. Breaks up the "too many cultural icon names" (Disney princesses/Audrey Hepburn) a little, maybe...?

If they're into maleficent they will absolutely know who Aurora is - she's the secondary main character.
Ellmau · 02/04/2021 20:49

Arabella, Felix, Hugo, Audrey and Aurora.

I feel Audrey is the odd one out here - the other four names are all quite posh/flowery, and Audrey is a bit 1950s dowdy. Plus twins both starting Au- looks a bit matchy (and in this case one has the short straw of a less pretty name).

If you must have an A, what about Allegra? I think that goes well with the other names. (I like Aurora a lot, btw.)

Finally, I don't care for Quinn myself, but if you're planning on moving back to the US, why not make it one of the twins' middle names, and adopting it as the main name later on?

GertrudeTheGreat · 02/04/2021 15:14

I like Audrey and Aurora. Agree that you could call Aurora Rory day to day and then it would be less confusing.

LadyCatStark · 02/04/2021 14:16

Audrey and Quinn both work for American girls but not so much British ones for some reason. What about Audrina?

cordelia16 · 02/04/2021 14:12

Not sure why you singled me out, OP. I'm really not saying anything that different to anyone else.

If it's late in the game and you are sold on Audrey and Aurora, as you seem to be in your later posts, then that's great. I gave an opinion on what I thought, which is what everyone else has done. Several ppl have also mentioned avoiding the triple A thing. Fair enough that it's not an issue for you.

I think the names Audrey and Aurora are too close/confusing for twins, and I do see the Bella/Aurora Disney conflict and therefore think Audrey and Quinn would be better. That's just my opinion, as an outsider. Obviously you must choose what makes sense to you.

twinmama2021 · 02/04/2021 10:53

@musicalfrog

I love Quinn actually and think it could be very glamorous! I'd prefer to be Quinn than Audrey personally.

You're worrying about her not having the A initial but are you planning any more babies after this?

Definitely not!!! We hoped for 4 and have been blessed with 5 :)

I don’t think one can take the naming of little humans too seriously so if it’s bothering you, please feel free to move on :)

Audrey and Quinn are lovely.
Aurora and Quinn could become Rory and Quinn, both unisex, both lovely.
Arabella is already Bella, aurora may become Rory and so your 3 matching "A" names will be a "B", an "R" and a not as much loved "a" name instead of the "Q" that is your most favourite name ever!

Mammyloveswine · 02/04/2021 09:30

How about Audrina? Or Elodie and Esme?

Swoonforpeterbishop · 02/04/2021 09:30

I prefer Audrey and Quinn. You have boys too don’t you?

worriedatthemoment · 02/04/2021 09:29

Agree I have no idea what quim means or is and have never heard the word before

saggybaps · 02/04/2021 09:29

Love Audrey and Quinn. Beautiful names.
Sorry, really not keen on Aurora... I think of Disney princesses or big ships.

worriedatthemoment · 02/04/2021 09:26

I like quinn not keen on audrey although like aubrey and think Quinn & Aubrey are
More similar together
That being said their your babies so call them what you like as that is what matters

Caszekey · 02/04/2021 09:24

Often a name you choose when pregnant doesn’t suit them when they’re born.
I never understood this. My twins don't look like they did when they were born. A name I picked then to suit them would be meaningless now and they're 15 months. And they'll change a ton until they reach adulthood, both physically and personality wise.

Luckingfovely · 02/04/2021 09:18

@twinmama2021

Good grief, this is the most overthinking anyone in the world has ever done on names!

OP PLEASE stop agonising over this. Please stop asking random strangers on the internet - who will always have opposing views and hence confuse you more - and just make your own decision, whether that's now or after they come.

FWIW - your original choices are lovely IMO and all kids grow into their names and you can never imagine them as anything else. So just use what you want. End.

CoffeeWithCheese · 02/04/2021 09:18

I really like Quinn - I tried to wangle it for my eldest but DH vetoed it, having seen through my claims it was from the Glee character and having sussed it was in homage to the Blessed Saint Niall Quinn Saviour of Sunderland (for a bit).

I don't like Aurora - I find it very hard to get my tongue around to be honest. I had sharing first initials as a big "no" for my kids - because I have the same initial as my brother and my mum used to use it as an excuse to legitimise her post opening snooping habit so it's rather a sore point. I don't generally like those quite flowery-floofy type names for girls like Arabella and Aurora though - so I'm definitely more in the Quinn camp as both of my girls have names that end in -n and are quite strong names. Both of my name choices have had a pasting on MN over the years but I love them and they suit my girls as older kids and hopefully moving onto young women - despite not being as "little girlie" as some name choices.
