Violet's sister is called...?

We've just found out we are having another girl and I am totally stumped on girls names! I was certain I was having a boy and had the name all picked out!!

Could you help me with name suggestions to go with Violet? I don't want anything old fashioned again so I would like something with more of a modern sound. A few on my list but I'm not sold on are:

Honor (husband hates this)
Amelie (a new addition- maybe too similar to Emily? I've got an Emily in the family)
Iris (not sure about another flower)
Esme (love this but I would pronounce it Ez-me and I think everyone else says Ez-may)
Winnie/Bobbie/Billie (like these but don't love the long versions of the names)

I thought esme before I saw that was on your list. Like iris on your list too. Also like

Belle

Poppy!!

I think Esme is perfect with Violet.

I pronounce it like you do, OP - EZ-me. It's much nicer than EZ-may IMO. .

@Scarby9 Sunny is lovely! Is it short for anything?

@pilates just out of interest how would you pronounce it?

@partyatthepalace

I actually love Violet and Iris together - they are both unusually sophisticated compared to a lot of flower names - I think Ivy also works, or -

Stella
Lois
Frances
Astrid
Esther
Cleo
Lara
Ines
Juno
Gwyneth
Oona
Ffion
Harriet nn Hallie
Philippa nn Pippa
Marianne or Marina nn Marnie
Meredith

Shame your DP doesn’t like Honor.
Don’t think any reason your can’t use Phoebe if the family member isn’t close

Stella is really cool but I used to have a (very uncool!) maths teacher called Stella so annoyingly I always associate it with her. Gwyneth is good as it gives the nn Winne which I really love but has very strong associations with Paltrow for me. Also love Cleo- short and cute

Lilian
Esther
Fleur
Iris

So many good suggestions here...quite a few votes for Iris too so maybe I'll add that one back to the list. Somehow it felt too grown up for Violet but it is very lovely and although old fashioned feels modern again

Ruby for another colour name.

Scarby9 · 29/03/2021 20:11

Sunny (sister of Violet Baudelaire in Lemony Snicket)

MargosKaftan · 29/03/2021 20:03

The colour theme sounds lovely and I do think Scarlett works with Violet - but then Scarlett is an old nickname for Charlotte. (And then you could have a Lettie and Lottie)

Or flower/plant theme

Ffion - Welsh for Foxglove
Willow
Primrose
Flora
Fleur
Jonquil
Hyacinth (or too "Keeping up appearances"?)

Bouledeneige · 29/03/2021 19:42

I like Florence too - my Granny's name. She was called Flo or Florrie for short.

Others I think go well:
Arial
Alice
Elodie
Amber
Iris
Ava
Meriel

Violet and Pearl
