Isaac Zachary?

Thoughts on the name Isaac Zachary? Surname is two syllables beginning with a hard C if it helps. My husband and I both like the flow of the name but he's worried we would be calling our child Zac Zachary. Not adverse to the nickname Zac at all so could happen but I'm not convinced it's a problem. Want to keep our names a secret from family and friends so can't ask them what they think. Thanks!

@Violetlavenders

Emphasise the 'I' sound followed by a soft 'zuk'.

That could sound a little like I suck Blush

The S sound in Isaac is more like a Z so that wouldn't happen. I did say the second syllable would be understated ie not emphasised so about the opposite of a northern spoken 'zuk'.

Anyway, I like Isaac and Zachary goes fine for a middle name as it doesn't matter.

musicinspring1 · 29/03/2021 21:57

My Isaac isn’t shortened to Zac either - he gets Isey or I - no one has ever even suggested Zac 🤷‍♀️

EssentialHummus · 29/03/2021 21:54

The only Isaac I know goes by Ike fwiw. I dunno. They just seem too similar to me.

Chattercino · 29/03/2021 21:48

Biblical / Jewish names

lorisparkle · 29/03/2021 21:46

My ds all have middle names but very rarely are they used. The only time is in written documents.

So if you like both names I would use them.

The only time I would worry about the middle name is when looking at initials.

Stokey · 29/03/2021 21:37

I know an Isaac called Zac. So the double name would bother me.
Other unusual names like Zachary - Ezekiel, Asa, Xavier, Ziggy, Malachi, Barnaby, Gabriel, Jethro.

MNWorldisCrazy · 29/03/2021 21:31

Gorgeous names!

I actually really like it. I don't think Isaac ends in 'Zac' and none of the Isaacs I know are called Zac, so calling him Zac Zac wouldn't have crossed my mind. Mind you my Joshua is never called Josh either and people always say that's inevitable on here, so maybe I live in a really weird area Confused

@Ilovemaisie

campion how do you pronounce Isaac? I have only ever heard it as "I - Zak".
Like the You Tube example. The vowel in the second syllable is reduced ie a bit understated. Emphasise the 'I' sound followed by a soft 'zuk'.
WiseOwlOne · 29/03/2021 20:59

I like both, but not together

BackforGood · 29/03/2021 20:54

Ah, that (you tube link) is very different from how I read your post cafedesreves Grin

Like @Violetlavenders I read hat you had written at 14:35:29 as the sound in 'Zeus' which is why I thought you'd be on your own.

I think I would say it somewhere between 'Eye-Zak' and 'Eye-Zuk' as well.

Stevearnottsbeard · 29/03/2021 18:06

My sons middle name is isaac, we pronounce it eye-zuk but isaac zachery is still calling him zac zac to me me, stick with isaac, it's a great name, choose another middle name

ThatOtherPoster · 29/03/2021 15:47

I pronounce it like that, @cafedesreves

cafedesreves · 29/03/2021 15:39

This pronounces it like me

TatianaBis · 29/03/2021 15:29

I prefer Zachary to Isaac but it's your call. Love Niobe.

BackforGood · 29/03/2021 15:27

@cafedesreves I think you'd be in quite a small minority there.

I think Isaac if pretty universically said 'Eye-Zak'

However, OP, whereas I wouldn't call twins Isaac and Zachary, as they could both end up with the same shortening, nobody shortens middle names.
Your ds would be 'Isaac Collins' or 'Isaac Copthorne' when using two names. You only use your middle name when your Mum is telling you off, or to be embarrassed by at your graduation or wedding, not as something someone calls you regularly during daily life.

cafedesreves · 29/03/2021 14:58

@Violetlavenders haha no to rhyme with look. Like a schwa sound - hard to write!.

Violetlavenders · 29/03/2021 14:55

I would say EYE-zeuk

Zeuk as in Zeus Confused

campion · 29/03/2021 13:52

Isaac isn't pronounced I-zak and middle names are just names you like, not names to use every day.
If it bothers you,put another name in the middle but I think it's fine.

ThatOtherPoster · 29/03/2021 13:49

I don’t think siblings’ middle names need to go together. They’ll never ever be heard at the same time unless they marry each other or form a criminal duo and get arrested.

1starwars2 · 29/03/2021 13:49

My children barely know what there middle names are. Don't angst over it either way.

Violetlavenders · 29/03/2021 13:45

It sounds like I sack sack ary. Not a good combo imo.
