Amber?

Thoughts? We actually don't know what we're having and will be choosing a name when baby is here but DP keeps bringing up Amber. He's shot down everything I liked, I'm pretty sure he'd be willing to budge on Amber but I actually don't mind it so have no real objections.

Firstly, as strangers what are your thoughts on the name? We won't be telling family beforehand and assume they'll be too polite if they hate it when baby is here!

Secondly, it'll be Amber Hill. I liked Holly but Holly Hill is too much of a place name! Does Amber Hill work? We weren't planning a middle name but does it need one?

Thanks for your opinions Smile

It’s alright. Like Jade it was popular in the 90s and a bit earlier in the late 60s, 70s. In the fist iteration it was definitely boho, in the second it went downmarket.

Amber Hill sounds fine.

I like it. You don't have to have a middle name if you don't want one.

Parkmama · 28/03/2021 09:00

My 6 year old DD is Amber and the only one we know, she also has red hair which is a total coincidence. I've always loved it, unusual and not too common without being hard to pronounce or likely to get shortened to something altogether different. I think it also works for a baby, toddler, teenager and an adult. Only you know if you like it, as with most things, when you know, you know Smile

ForeverBubblegum · 28/03/2021 08:53

I have a toddler Amber, so am probably bias, but I love it. She's the only young Amber we've met, and we had lots of positive comments when we first introduced her (though I imagine everyone does).

FedNlanders · 28/03/2021 08:51

We used a very similar 90s name and love it. Everyone knows it but she is only one in school.

Roselilly36 · 28/03/2021 08:45

I love the name Amber, DH knew a male Amber once too. I know a few cats called Amber, only ever known one child called Amber so fairly unusual. A great choice.

amallierory · 28/03/2021 08:39

I know of parents who recently called their daughter Amber. It's lovely, and underused these days. It was definitely more popular in the early 2000s but it doesn't feel dated to me. It fits in with the current naming trend of short names with lots of vowels, but will still feel refreshing among all the Ava, Isla, Ivy's etc.

HastingsIsSuckingDiesel · 27/03/2021 23:14

Lovely name

Habbyhadno · 27/03/2021 22:59

Just don't use the middle name of Lynn like someone I know did. Shock

Amdone123 · 27/03/2021 22:57

I like it. I agree it was popular once upon a time, probably the 90s, but I like it.

sarah13xx · 27/03/2021 22:53

Where I stay I feel like Amber is very underused! I wouldn’t say it’s ‘very 90s’ because I was born in the 90s and only had one girl at my whole school called Amber. Don’t know if you know if the youtubers James and Carys but they are just about to have a baby and have already announced her name will be Amber. I think it’s lovely!

Noodlesnoodlesnoodles · 27/03/2021 22:48

I find it quite dated too - very 90s. It's a pretty name, but I just can't seem to warm to it.

AnnaSW1 · 27/03/2021 22:38

I don't like it. Amber (and Jade) for me are a bit 90s chavtastic

EvilOnion · 27/03/2021 22:17

I love it.

It was on our list of 3 names for #2.

warnc007 · 27/03/2021 22:10

We've got a 7 year old Amber, she loves her name and she's the only one in her school which makes life easier at times.

Firebird83 · 27/03/2021 22:07

It makes me think of an American cheerleader from the 80s. Tiffany, Heather, Amber, Brittany etc.

snowone · 27/03/2021 21:54

I like it ☺️

Cotswoldmama · 27/03/2021 21:53

I like it and have only known lovely Ambers.

Chunkymenrock · 27/03/2021 21:53

I love it. Great choice.

ODFOx · 27/03/2021 21:52

It is one of the few names that I know several people with the name but don't particularly like any of them.
So I'd never use it as a baby name.

Spied · 27/03/2021 21:52

Beautiful

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 27/03/2021 21:52

I like it, it's definitely having a mini resurgence as I know 3 under the age of 3

Woodlandbelle · 27/03/2021 21:50

I think it's lovely with your surname. I like it yes. But have think about other options if you are unsure now at this stage.

buckleten · 27/03/2021 21:50

That's beautiful, I love it!

Zarinea · 27/03/2021 21:48

I love it. Strong sound and good associations.
