Hi I'm new here! I a little boy who is two and I am expecting a little girl in May. His name is Othello (Otto is his nickname) and me and my husband have no idea for baby girls name. We liked Sailor and Violet. We also love the name Gemma but is that too "basic" for lack of another word after calling our son Othello?

I love Otto abs Violet! I'm biased though as I have a Violet (didn't realise it was popular now! She's only one and we've never met another) and Otto was going to be my baby boys name (I've just found out we are having another girl though).

Othello and Dahlia
Othello and Minerva
Othello and Ginevra
Othello and Greta

KirstenBlest · 27/03/2021 18:43

If you like Sailor, how about Seaman?

Pawprints2017 · 27/03/2021 18:39

Theodora? Otto and Theo would be cute!

OnlyToWin · 27/03/2021 11:48

Otto and Katya sound good together I think.

Chunkymenrock · 27/03/2021 11:45

Please not Effie. It sounds like effing. Really horrible connotation.

Chunkymenrock · 27/03/2021 08:31

Damaris, Emerald, Cassia

amallierory · 27/03/2021 08:23

Othello is a very sophisticated, out-there name, so although sibling names don't necessarily need to match, I agree that in this case, an equally sophisticated name would work best.

My first thought was Ophelia too, and I agree that Otto and Effie go nicely together. Cordelia also goes really well.

Other suggestions:

Celina
Evangeline
Octavia
Seraphina
Cecilia
Adelaide
Juliette
Emmeline

anomletteandaglassofwine · 26/03/2021 00:46

I know a Violet nn Vivi, which goes well with Otto

Aquamarine1029 · 26/03/2021 00:46

Farrah
Genevieve

Lochmorlich · 26/03/2021 00:31

Demelza
Kerensa
Both cornish names.

JustanotherTuesday · 26/03/2021 00:24

If you like Violet, what about Violetta ? I think it's a pretty name.

EvelynBeatrice · 26/03/2021 00:19

I once knew a Guinevere ( Gwin and Otto?)

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/03/2021 22:50

If you have an Othello with the trendy nn Otto, I wouldn't be able to resist Ophelia with the trendy nn Effie - Othello and Ophelia (Otto and Effie) make a gorgeous sibset to me.

But pp suggestions of Viola (love!) and Cordelia would also work well imo.

FlashBathroom · 25/03/2021 22:37

Cordelia is great (Cordy/Cora as nns)
Jemima is really lovely too.

Viola and Genevieve also go well with Othello although they're not to my my taste really.

Happenchance · 25/03/2021 21:40

Gem could be a nickname for Imogen.

Other suggestions:

Bryony
Magda
Coraline
Gwendolyn nn Gwen
Jocelyn

Amdone123 · 25/03/2021 19:36

Viola is a great suggestion. Violet, though lovely, is quite popular.

cartiercalliantinio2000 · 25/03/2021 19:02

@partyatthepalace

Othello is such a great name

Violet is nice but popular - but how about Viola (VY-oh-la) to continue the Shakespeare link. I also love Cordelia.

Some lovely suggestions from PPS - Rosaria, Cassia, Serena, Marianne, Adela, Fernanda, Honor, Stella/Estella and Cecilia/Cecily might also work.

Gemma is OK but very pedestrian, Sailor best as a middle name.

Thank you for the suggestions! I love Cordelia, that's definitely near the top of our list. I agree that Gemma does sound quite simple paired with Othello and Sailor is for sure more for a middle name. I like Viola, the thing that put me off Violet was how popular it was so that's a great option. Smile

@FamilyOfAliens

I would worry about the teasing when people say “Hello Sailor”. Because they will - especially at school.
Yeah someone else pointed out that a "Sailor" might get teased, so maybe more of a middle name?

@Amdone123

I love Jemima, too. Tabitha? Love Violet and Sailor is growing on me....as is Othello !
Our cat is called Tabitha! I'm now thinking of Sailor as more of a middle name. And a lot of people have said that about Othello, when we first announced our sons names some of our family weren't too sure and now like it so thank you!

@MenopausalMargot

Flora. It is a beautiful name.
It is so beautiful! Maybe as a nickname for a Florence as I do prefer longer names Smile
