Regret my daughter’s name Phoebe

Does anyone else regret the name you choose for your child?

My daughter’s Phoebe and I worry that other people might not like it ( didn’t realize it’s a marmite name ) that it’s too hard to spell ( we get Pheobe already didn’t think it would annoy me but it does ) or that she’ll get teased and be called Beefy ( didn’t think about that as a potential nickname when I choose her name ) or something else that’s mean .

Unfortunately it’s too late to change it now. She’s nearly 3. Other mums with a Phoebe, are you happy with that name?

Happy for any support !🙂 Thanks !

I have a Phoebe. Still love the name. She has never had an issue with being called anything different? Occasionally people spell it wrong but that can happen with many names!

Lorieandrews · 25/03/2021 17:16

I really really wanted to call my daughter Mona. I love that name and so many people told me to call her a name I love. It was after a special someone who begged me NOT to call her that as she hated her name so much

I ended Uk not calling her that. But to this day I wish I’d followed my heart. It’s my family. I love it. But then some days I’m so glad I didn’t. My kids don’t go to school. So wouldn’t have that social worry

Anystarinthesky · 25/03/2021 17:14

It's a lovely name.

Bagamoyo1 · 25/03/2021 17:06

Phoebe is a lovely name. Yes the spelling may be tricky at first, but it’s only ever spelt that way, so there’s no confusion.
But what this thread reinforces is how utterly crazy it is for people to deliberately choose wacky spellings of common names.
We see it on MN all the time - I want to call my daughter Sarah but I’m going to spell it Saaiirahh - that sort of thing. I think it’s cruel to condemn your child to a lifetime of correcting the spelling of their name.
But like I say, Phoebe only has one spelling, so it’s easy.

LunaLula83 · 25/03/2021 17:05

Oh put your big girl pants on. Any name has potential for teasing.

Crosstrainer · 25/03/2021 17:05

Beefy? Don’t get it either. Phoebe is a nice, classic name. You’d be surprised if there were three in a class, but it’s a perfectly well known name. Can’t see any issue with it at all. Slightly difficult to spell, maybe - but kids get used to it. I honestly wouldn’t worry.

CimCardashian · 25/03/2021 17:05

Everyone likes the name Phoebe don’t they?!
It’s lovely.

Will probably be shortened by teenagers to Phoebes which is also good.

Crappyfridays7 · 25/03/2021 17:05

If kids are going to bully someone it wouldn’t matter what their name was. I got all sorts main one being goofy.
Phoebe is a Lovely name I did check I’d spelt it correctly there but I do that with names as I’m dyslexic. My own son is Ciaran and people struggle with that. I bet your little phoebe is wonderful and suits her name

Milkshake7489 · 25/03/2021 17:04

Phoebe is beautiful OP! I can't imagine anyone getting beefy from it either Smile

RaininSummer · 25/03/2021 17:02

It's a lovely name. No idea why people would say Beefy though the misspelling is something you/her will probably need to learn to live with.

icdtap · 25/03/2021 16:59

Lovely name.
Never heard of Beefy.

Anyway, just about any name could be shortened to a nickname which maybe doesn't sound as nice as the original name.

itsgettingwierd · 25/03/2021 16:57

I love Phoebe - it's one of the girls names on my list (won't be having more though!)

Phoebe Rose
Phoebe Grace
Phoebe Matilda

We're my 3 versions. I also liked Matilda as a first name so if I'd had a girl and it would have been my last I'd have used it as a middle name!

Folklore9074 · 25/03/2021 16:53

Love Phoebe. Gorgeous name. 'Beefy' is a big stretch but whatever you get called kids will find a way to pick on you if they want to.

DeadButDelicious · 25/03/2021 16:52

I have a Phoebe. We have quite a few little nicknames for her (peebs, peebee, Pheebs), I had no idea it was a 'marmite' name and have never heard of Beefy being used. We just thought it was a nice, fairly uncommon name that suits an adult as well as a child, plus it has a lovely meaning.

Yes, some people do mix up the E's and the O's but most people don't. She's the only one in her class so that's handy. And if ever a child was their name, she is a Phoebe. I can't imagine her being called anything else.

Lammergeier · 25/03/2021 16:48

It's a lovely name, I wouldn't stress about it.

I have an extremely easy name to spell and people fuck it up constantly.

Steph64 · 25/03/2021 16:47

Phoebe is a beautiful name - timeless and classy.

Dagnabit · 25/03/2021 16:42

Phoebe is a lovely name. I have a Maia and we get Mia, Miah, Mya, Miai and various others attempts!

notveryhappyhere · 25/03/2021 16:39

I love it 🥰

DoggyDoolittle · 25/03/2021 16:38

I really like it

Heartofglass12345 · 25/03/2021 16:37

I love the name phoebe and it would definitely be one of the top names on my list if I were to ever get pregnant again and had a girl (very doubtful lol)

HideousKinky · 25/03/2021 16:33

It's a beautiful name and I would have chosen it myself, but it really doesn't go with our surname!

summerisler · 25/03/2021 16:31

It’s a lovely name. Don’t change it! I do understand your frustrations with misspelling - my DD isn’t even 1 and has already been called Tasmin multiple times. Her name is Tamsin and I fear she’ll be correcting a lot of people in the future.

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/03/2021 16:30

Three at the school I teach in two Nn Pheebs and one beebee

mrsnec · 25/03/2021 16:30

Some Greeks pronounce a P like a B and B like an F or a V. So it can sound like 'bivvy/ Biffy.

I love the name and would have used it if we were in the UK where it was unlikely to be a problem but the one I know here everyone pronounces it Bivvy and I'm not so keen. I love it's meaning though.

caringcarer · 25/03/2021 16:28

I do get this beefy link?
