Really stuck on these 3! I’m finding it hard to decide so help would be greatly appreciated Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 24/03/2021 19:55

I’m not factually incorrect, read the thread see other posts that concur,
It’s a cats name, and there is a strong enduring association. Parents of daughter called Tabitha agree it’s a cat name too

So Knock yourself out with protestations, links if you wish . It not a war if attrition. I won’t crumple and declare ok,you win

dcb2 · 24/03/2021 19:54

Tabitha for me. Elizabeth is my mum's name so (completely irrationally) I can't imagine it for a baby. Bethany reminds me too much of Bethany Frankel (from Real Housewives of NY).

mrsm43s · 24/03/2021 19:51

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

Protestations and wiki links are not actually going to disavow me of my POV *@mrsm43s* It’s a cat name. It’s also a female name (that I associate with cats)

What did you expect to happen?that I’d crumple faced with wiki and your emphatic assertion

I’m not going to change my mind
Conversely I expect you’ll not change your mind

But you are factually wrong to say "it is a cats name", because it is not. It is a human female name with a long history.

Perfectly reasonable for you not to choose it as you, personally, associate it with a cat. Rude and ignorant for you to incorrectly assert that it is factually a cat's name, because it isn't. You are asserting your opinion/ preference, which you are perfectly entitled to, as if it is a fact, which it is not.

RickiTarr · 24/03/2021 18:47

Tabitha.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 24/03/2021 18:42

Elizabeth over Elisabeth. Beth can be a nickname. I'm not keen on Bethany or Tabitha.

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

Well of course,as I said it unlikely anyone going to say in RL that’s a cat name
Very unlikely I agree, as its not a "cat name", it's a human name with a long history.

See Wiki entry - I see no mention of it being a name just for cats, or derived from a cat name, just that it is an English feminine given name.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabitha

I'm pretty sure the most popular names for dogs are currently Max and Bella. Does that mean that these are now "dog names" and can no longer be used for human children?

littlemisslozza · 24/03/2021 18:08

Elizabeth with a z
Bethan rather than Bethany
then Tabitha a long way down! I find it a bit wet.

TheVanguardSix · 24/03/2021 18:07

Tabitha!

ProcrastinationIsMySuperPower · 24/03/2021 18:05

I also have a Tabitha, she's also known as T, or Tabi or Tabs by her friends 🙂

motherofawhirlwind · 24/03/2021 18:00

@Happynewtier

I have a Tabitha so that's my favourite! She's mainly referred to as Tabs or "Tee". Obviously it's used as a cat's name too, no denying that, but it doesn't bother us... we like cats! and she loves it whenever we find any books with cats called Tabitha/Tabby in them! It's a great name, Tabby is very cute for a little girl, and Tabitha sounds elegant and "grown up" on an adult.
I have a Tabitha who is known as T as well! Not found another one that used that as a nickname yet, but that's lovely to know. Her friends also call her Tabby or Tabs, and she likes that too.

It means Gazelle and she suits that, plus she adores cats so meh if anyone thinks it's a cat name. I've only ever had people say how lovely it is (to my face!)

pilates · 24/03/2021 17:53

Elisabeth

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 24/03/2021 17:53

Elisabeth is timeless.

Weirdly I like Tabitha and I have no idea why because it's totally not my usual style.

Bethany feels late 90's and a bit dated to me. Sits alongside Brittany, Leanne, Danielle etc.

Edenember · 24/03/2021 16:52

Tabitha by a mile.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 24/03/2021 13:49

Tabitha,yup cat name
Luna I know a few baby/toddlers called that

minniemoocher · 24/03/2021 13:47

Ps if we get a cat she'll be called Tabitha, love the name from that wizard programme when I was little, bewitched

minniemoocher · 24/03/2021 13:46

If I have another dd (which I won't) she would be Elizabeth

VenusClapTrap · 24/03/2021 12:50

I love Tabitha. The other two I find a bit dull.

I haven’t met a cat called Tabitha for 35 years. They all seem to be called Luna round here.

PandaFluff · 24/03/2021 10:49

@Herewegoagain84

Don’t like Bethany at all. Beth is just weak sounding. I really like Elisabeth, especially with the ‘s’ as it’s a bit different from the usual, and helps to avoid the default nicknames (Lizzie). Tabitha was on my list and I love it too.
Ah see I liked Elizabeth as it had potential for the Lizzie/Liz diminutive!

Depends how you feel about shortening OP!

I really like Bethany or Bethan.
I like Elizabeth (with a Z though).
I dislike Tabitha.

user127820 · 24/03/2021 10:21

Tabitha is too much associated with cats for me unfortunately. It could be a nice name otherwise.

I really like the look of Elisabeth with an s, but it is true that she would always have to correct people's spelling, and that will be annoying. For that reason, I would probably just go for the normal spelling, to save her the bother.

I like Bethany. It's underused and has cute nicknames (Bessie etc).

DarcyJack · 23/03/2021 23:08

If you are going to spell Elisabeth like that then Bethany.

Bruce2 · 23/03/2021 23:03

I have an Elizabeth so I'd say that :)

However if next baby is a girl were between Tabitha & Vivien so I equally love Tabitha!!
Could you use one as a middle name?

Bethany I don't like sorry.
