Names for a red haired boy with an impish look?

Just for fun :) although there is a real baby, it's not the only idea!

DH and I struggling to think of a name for DS3 (!) it took us months and months to come up with DS2's name!

DS2 has pale colouring with red hair and freckles, and cute impish/elfy kind of features. DH has ridiculously strong genes so I suspect the same again. (DS1 has a different dad).

This is an avenue we haven't yet looked down in terms of naming themes and we are both fussy! So hit us with them.

It's got to be Rufus, it literally means red haired one.

I must admit, Rory sprang to mind from your description. But I love Gregory for a boy and that means watchful and alert, apparently, which sounds a bit impish.

Meant to say I like the nature connection as well. I found "Sylvester" meaning "Forest dweller" - love the meaning, and we do literally live near a small forest, but really not keen on the name Sylvester - makes me think of that cat and Sylvester Stallone!

Aww some lovely suggestions thank you! Idris is my top most favourite name of all time but DH is not keen :( I will keep working on him! DS2's name has been suggested too! I also love Freddie, lean towards Alfred rather than Frederick. DH's family are total Weasleys right down to the tumbledown house. Wink

Like Robin/Rowan/possibly Rory but I think sadly too close to DS1's name.

Chucky :o

There is no Scottish heritage that I know of although I wonder about MIL's family as there are Scottish names going back in that family tree (may be a coincidence). Prob would steer clear of overly Scottish names as I think it would look strange without the connection, but anything commonly used in England/Wales would be fine.

Really lovely suggestions already (in particular Fergus, that is a great name!). How about Ruairi / Ruairidh (pronounced Rooo-ray), meaning Red King? This is my son’s name. I see Rory mentioned a few times, this is the anglicised form and has a different pronunciation.

Happenchance · 22/03/2021 22:01

Rogan. It literally means red-headed.
Christopher (I know a lot of red-headed men called Chris)

I see a pp suggested it too, spelt a different way, I prefer it their way Taryn.

Taran was the first name that came to mind, (fron the black cauldron).
