What do you think? Too dated?

Watchingthetelly · 22/03/2021 17:16

I’m not a fan at all. I think this one is very much down to personal taste though, so I’d say go for it if you really like it!

Amdone123 · 22/03/2021 16:22

No. A definite no.

Floralnomad · 22/03/2021 16:21

Makes me think of the Tom Robinson song , and much as I like Tom Robinson it would be a no for me .

TOWGA · 22/03/2021 16:21

That's my husband's name, and he is under 30 Grin

Teenagerwillbethedeathofme · 22/03/2021 16:20

Every Martin I've ever known has been batshit crazy.

BadMudda · 22/03/2021 16:19

No only because I went out with a Martin .

First boyfriend and utterly utterly vile .

A complete and utter arse so it's a no from me

joystir59 · 22/03/2021 16:19

Lovely. Was a name I grew up with in the sixties but it's time for a revival.

MonkeyPuddle · 22/03/2021 16:17

There’s one in my sons preschool, so he’s 3 or 4.
I don’t personally like it as the only Martin I know is a bit of a wet fish.

LunaNorth · 22/03/2021 16:09

Nice enough, but it’s XH name so it’s a bit tainted for me.

You go for it, though. It would go well with Rowan as a sibling.

Aquamarine1029 · 22/03/2021 16:06

Love it.

PandaFluff · 22/03/2021 16:04

I like it

Thelikelylass · 22/03/2021 14:59

I know list of great guys called Martin - he may get his name shortened to Marty which I also like.

Soubriquet · 22/03/2021 14:38

My dads name

I hate it.... but then I don’t really get on with my family so I’m biased that way Smile

Love2cycle · 22/03/2021 14:36

@Firebird83

A lot more positive comments than I expected! Smile
I don't regret it one bit. It's been cute and suited ours since he was a baby. He seems quite proud of it aswell, he loves telling people his name.

Never thought about the nature connection, will be taking him out to see some housemartins this summer! Also thr band, didn't think about that either but I did used to like them 😊

How is Martin biblical?

Whetstone · 22/03/2021 13:17

Great name. Biblical, solid, untrendy.

Two of the great loves of my life were both called Martin Blush

Bicnod · 22/03/2021 13:15

It's a name that was very popular when I was at primary school (in mid-late 80s) but don't hear it so much nowadays. DS (11) has a friend at school called Martin (which makes me chuckle slightly but I'm not sure why). It might be due a revival?!

Babdoc · 22/03/2021 13:14

Marvin the depressed paranoid android from Hitchhiker’s guide?! Surely not!

Noodlesnoodlesnoodles · 22/03/2021 13:07

It wet sounding to me I'm afraid. How about Marvin? I feel like that's due a revival.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/03/2021 12:36

I think of it as a bit dated (only ever heard it on men in their 40's or older) and not quite as classic feeling as similar dated Phillip, Hugh, Richard etc.

Yet it has a nice enough sound and is well known and more popular for kids in lots of other countries- so maybe you should bring it back here OP, would be quite refreshing to meet a baby Martin now.

Rainbowdino · 22/03/2021 10:19

I think v dated. I know of no martins under the age of 40 though!
