Thoughts on my shortlist please? Dp only likes one or two which aren't my favourites.

Ada
Agnes
Elizabeth / Betty / Eliza
Eleanor
Isobel / Isa

we have three Isobel, isabella's etc so might be an common name in class and she'd be known as Isobel W for example. I love Elizabeth and Ellie short for Eleanor.

Sending blessings either way.

Lililou · 22/03/2021 22:25

A vote for Isobel from me

Laureatus · 22/03/2021 22:16

Elizabeth - but I'm biased because I am one! My parents chose it partly because it has so many shortenings available. I'm known as Lizzie, and I have to say I don't like shortenings like Beth, Betty, Liz, or Libby. Lisa is also short for Elizabeth which many people don't realise 🙂

mathanxiety · 22/03/2021 22:09

I like Ada, Agnes, and Betty.

Clockingon · 22/03/2021 22:04

Elizabeth / Betty / Eliza

TatianaBis · 22/03/2021 21:47

Agnes by far.

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 22/03/2021 21:45

Elizabeth and Eleanor are the best.
Not keen on Ada or Agnes.
Isobel - very popular over the last few years. NB My Nan was called this and always used to say "Is a bell necessary on a bike?!' Amused us anyway!!

Forest27 · 22/03/2021 21:44

My favourite from your list is Eliza ☺️

But they’re all nice names!

IndecentFeminist · 22/03/2021 21:38

All lovely.

Elizabeth/Libby/Bet/Betty/Liza
Ada
Agnes

MadeOfStarStuff · 22/03/2021 21:35

Adore Elizabeth, Libby is my favourite nickname for it

Also love Isobel with that spelling

IllNeverLetGoJack · 22/03/2021 11:47

Love Agnes!!

Safer option would be Elizabeth with Betty / Eliza / whatever. Still some cool shortenings but if she turns out to be fairly girly, or wants a more anonymous sort of name, she could be Elizabeth or Beth, Ellie etc.

partyatthepalace · 22/03/2021 10:23

Order:

Agnes - love it, not overused, very cool!
Elizabeth - love it, very popular though - but lots of nn options - I would deffo call her Elizabeth and use Eliza or whatever you want as a nn
Eleanor - lovely but done to death
Isobel/Isabella - lovely but done to death
Ada - nothing wrong with it, I just don’t like it - Adela is lovely though

Fifthtimelucky · 22/03/2021 10:06

I like them all except for Ada.

Elizabeth, Eleanor and Isabel/Isobel are my favourites and I have a daughter with one of those names.

KirstenBlest · 22/03/2021 09:58

Ada - don't like
Agnes - sort of like it, sort of don't
Elizabeth / Betty / Eliza - fine
Eleanor - a bit boring but ok
Isobel / Isa - no

YellowPurple · 22/03/2021 00:58

Betty

Linnet · 22/03/2021 00:56

Eleanor

Borntohula · 22/03/2021 00:55

Agnes is the coolest.

Synchrony · 22/03/2021 00:43

Vote Elizabeth nn Betty.
Second choice Eleanor
Dislike Ada (which I'd certainly pronounce Ay-da and unlike a pp would never think of Adder. Aida is a totally different name pronounced Eye-EE-da).

Tambourina · 21/03/2021 23:44

Ada - no
Agnes - love this name
Elizabeth / Betty / Eliza - cant go wrong
Eleanor - v nice
Isobel / Isa - lovely

Ikeameatballs · 21/03/2021 23:39

First: Isobel, and I prefer this spelling
Second: Elizabeth nn Eliza
Third: Ada
Fourth: Eleanor
Fifth: Agnes, though I do like Agatha if that could be a contender?

Elouera · 21/03/2021 23:36

How are you pronouncing Ada? I first think Adder- like the snake! If its Ayy-da, I've only seen it spelt as Aida or Ayda- but could be wrong?
Agnes- awful
Elizabeth had many more options if she chooses- Beth, Bethany, Liz, Liza etc
Eleanor- very common, but classic
Isobel- like, but not this spelling

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/03/2021 23:29

My choice would probably be Eleanor but I like them all apart from Agnes (I know it's trendy/cool now but it has quite a harsh sound to me).

Elizabeth and Eleanor are "can't go wrong" names - very classic and timeless (especially Elizabeth), but the wide variety of nn's stop them from feeling boring imo (my fave is Bess for Elizabeth and Nell for Eleanor).

Ada and Isobel are more difficult because they are gorgeous but less timeless/classic - Ada is currently trendy because of Peaky Blinders (plus it's similarity to Ava) and Isobel was quite popular just a few years ago (plus you will get spelling issues with Isabelle/Isabel).

BackforGood · 21/03/2021 23:07

Elizabeth is my favourite from your list

Noodlesnoodlesnoodles · 21/03/2021 22:57

Ada - love
Agnes - bit dowdy
Elizabeth / Betty / Eliza - ok, like Beth as a nn
Eleanor - lovr
Isobel / Isa - Isobel is nice

You might also like Isla, Elise, Iona, Esme, Ava, Annabel, Ailsa or Anya.

Eleanor, Eliza or Elizabeth.
