Oliver or Toby?

Which do you prefer?

I know Oliver is popular but I don’t mind that.
Toby would be Tobias on the BC and Toby day-to-day.

Thanks Smile

Oliver

It’s so popular because it’s a lovely name

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/03/2021 00:47

I like Toby

percheron67 · 21/03/2021 22:20

Both are good strong names. Slight preference for Tobias.

frostymornings · 21/03/2021 22:19

I've got a Toby, he's definitely not 'a bit wet' Confused

Chouxbuncity · 21/03/2021 22:13

I like Oliver but I think it’s too similar to Oscar

NatU123 · 21/03/2021 22:10

Thanks very much to you all :)

ellenpartridge · 21/03/2021 17:13

Oliver but I do like both.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/03/2021 16:51

Tobias/Toby

Tobias/Toby

Toby, it's a great name and was on my shortlist for DS.

You always get at least one person saying the name is "weak" or "wet" - no idea why as I don't think it is at all. God forbid a boy should have a softer-sounding name Hmm

Amdone123 · 21/03/2021 02:32

Was going to say Oliver, but not keen on Oscar and Oliver. Love Tobias. Don't like Toby.
Any others ? Jacob is lovely with Oscar. Caleb ? Quinn ? James?

Tavannach · 21/03/2021 02:20

Tobias

partyatthepalace · 21/03/2021 02:16

Oliver

I just find Toby quiet wet, although I like a Tobias

LST · 20/03/2021 22:47

I have an Oliver and only know of 1 other in my oldest dcs class at school

RedcurrantPuff · 20/03/2021 22:45

Oliver

DarcyJack · 20/03/2021 22:44

Tobias. And its loads better in its full form than nn Toby imo

Miljea · 20/03/2021 22:35

There was a Toby Towell in my YR in 1966.

That will never leave me. 😊

Northernexile · 20/03/2021 22:32

Oliver. Find Toby a bit weak-sounding (sorry!)

Although I'm not sure I'd like Oliver with Oscar.

Sorry I appreciate that's not massively helpful!

HollyBen · 20/03/2021 22:32

Oliver. I don't like Toby

NatU123 · 20/03/2021 22:30

@ZoyaTheDestroyer I quite like the sound of Oscar and Oliver 😄

BunnyRuddington · 20/03/2021 22:29

You'd have to really like your family name to go with Oliver as he'll always be known by his first and last name.

I'd go with Toby, every one I've ever known has been lovely.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/03/2021 22:25

Definitely Tobias then. You can’t have Oscar and Oliver!

NatU123 · 20/03/2021 22:23

@Saltyslug Rory is my brother and Oscar is my DS1 Wink

I love both of these names but slightly leaning more towards Toby/Tobias although worried about how it will sound with our surname. Thanks for all your opinions Smile

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/03/2021 22:22

Tobias. I know you don’t mind popularity but Oliver is next-level popular.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/03/2021 22:19

Toby would be my choice (as long as lovely Tobias is on the BC, as Toby can sound a bit cutesy on some adults). Oliver is nice enough, just overused (and I'm less keen on nn Olly).
