So, Neh (like a horse's 'neigh'?) then 'vie'........ surely that is Navy then ?

To be fair if your friend has chosen a really unusual name, she's going to have to get used to people asking how it is pronounced - or, more truthfully, over her life, the child.

Bunnybigears · 20/03/2021 16:38

DH has manged to find it on Google (when I tried it just kept thinking I was spelling it wrong) apparently it is pronounced Neh vie and means beautiful bird.

I’d think Na - vee like the workmen Confused

Bet it’s pronounced, navy though.

Poor kid Hmm

Bunnybigears · 20/03/2021 16:34

I thought maybe it was just a name I had never come across and everyone would know how to pronounce it but obviously its not the case so I will just ask. Thanks.

Just ask your friend! Smile

My daughter's name can be pronounced a few different ways (it's not an unusual name, just has different pronunciations) and I've never been offended when someone has asked how I'd like them to pronounce it. I'm sure your friend would rather you asked than you make an attempt and her have to correct you if you're wrong.

For what it's worth I have no idea how I'd pronounce that one, possibly nah-vee

@GreyhoundG1rl

God knows. You've just made up the name, who are we to tell you how to pronounce it?
If you can’t be arsed to read the whole thread, at least read the OPs posts 🙄🙄
YouAreYourBestThing · 20/03/2021 16:24

Blimey 😟 Poor child! Is it a girl or boy?

It is not a name she has chosen. It is the name of a friend's baby
Sexnotgender · 20/03/2021 16:22

Navvy.

cantmovewont · 20/03/2021 16:19

Na-Vee - is that not another name for the toilet?

ChristinaYang10 · 20/03/2021 16:18

I’d guess at it rhyming with savvy, but that’s not a very pretty sound so maybe it is like navy the colour.

Bunnybigears · 20/03/2021 16:14

Na-vee. But don't do it!

Thats how I would have thought it was pronounced as well, dont worry its not for me a friend has had a baby and I was going to call but didn't want to offend my pronouncing it wrong. Although mumsnet seem split so I may have to just bite the bullet and ask rather than risk it and get it wrong.

Navvy as in "Swear like a navvy".

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/03/2021 16:13

Nav-ee like the workmen who built the canals, railways etc
This.
Aozora13 · 20/03/2021 16:11

Navvy, like a canal worker.

I’ve not heard the name before though, how is it supposed to be pronounced?

katy1213 · 20/03/2021 16:11

Na-vee. But don't do it!

loobylou44 · 20/03/2021 16:10
