Hi all my partner really wants an Italian name but I'm struggling to find a boy name that we both like. Have come across Ravello? What do you think?

Ennio and Enzo are my favourites

xxhetty · 18/03/2021 22:48

Thankyou! It's well and truly off the list back to the drawing board! So hard to find a name we both agree on!

Ravello is an incredibly beautiful place to visit, and it's in Italy, if that helps at all Confused

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 18/03/2021 22:38

I like the town of Ravello, it's very nice there. But it's not a name for a child. I agree with most others, it sounds like a product name.

CorvusPurpureus · 18/03/2021 22:23

It's fine. Easy to spell & pronounce. Obvious sensible short form.

I don't love it, but if you do, I can't see why not! It's a perfectly ok name.

TatianaBis · 18/03/2021 21:34

It doesn’t mean rebel, it derived from the Latin rebellum which is not quite the same.

Ribele is rebel in Italian.

Bimblybomeyelash · 18/03/2021 21:31

A mumsnetter boden favourite?

Killergigglebunnies · 18/03/2021 21:31

Right, my parents are not British, but gave me a British name as this is where we live and have grown up.
Are you intending to live in Italy? If not, go with a British name.
I have married a Brit and you wouldn’t know from my name I’m foreign. Funnily enough, I’m very British sounding but speak the other language fluently too. Always a fun surprise 😁

joystir59 · 18/03/2021 21:30

Valentino, Guiseppe, Fabio, Rafael, Sergio, Vincenzo, Lorenzio, Carrado, Bruno, Quirino, Leonardo, Fernando, Romeo.
There are so many beautiful strong names. But you pick Ravello!

TatianaBis · 18/03/2021 21:29

I don’t hate it and it shows imagination.

Florence, Siena, Milan, Roman, Emilia... I guess you could justify it that way.

I prefer Raffaello though.

joystir59 · 18/03/2021 21:26

Sounds like a naff sauce brand or cheap mock chocolate.

xxhetty · 18/03/2021 21:24

I do like the nickname rav and Ravi and I like Ralph I know it's a town but also is a name that means rebel which I quite like. I do like it but does make me think of the chocolate too something holding me back in it I think it's quite marmite!

Ravello is a famous town in Italy. I suppose if you can have Florence, you could have it as a name.

GothamGirl1970 · 18/03/2021 19:36

Ravello is an Israeli software product

Oodilallygolly · 18/03/2021 19:35

Reminds me of the chocolate

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/03/2021 19:33

Very Italian sounding but it does remind me a bit of chocolate as well as the town. Having said that, I don't think it's at all unusable but like pp I think it will get shortened to Rav/Ravi (due to the popularity of similar nn Raf/Raffy for Rafael and Rafferty), so you need to like the potential nn's too.

XiCi · 18/03/2021 19:12

Its a chocolate isnt it? Even without the association I dont like it.

Mankyfruitbowl · 18/03/2021 19:12

Apologies, I was thinking of Rivella Blush

Nice name for a girl though

Mankyfruitbowl · 18/03/2021 19:09

I think it's a type of soft drink, in Austria or Switzerland maybe?

siyhack58342 · 18/03/2021 19:06

Sounds like a type of biscuit? I dont know why it has that association for me.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 18/03/2021 19:06

I quite like Ravi as a nickname but as a full name it just sounds like pasta.

May2021Mummy · 18/03/2021 19:04

I like it

StressedTired · 18/03/2021 19:03

I think it's nice, it didn't make me think of ravioli until I read the comments. I'd probably end up nicknaming him Ravi so think about whether you like that as a nn before using.

CrumbsThatsQuick · 18/03/2021 19:03

Chocolate

HamFisted · 18/03/2021 19:02

Makes me think of the white chocolate Ferrero Roche things.
