Is Jane boring, and does it sound ok with sister Nina?

I have Jane as a middle name and I often wondered what was the point, I don’t particularly like it. It seemed to be used as a popular middle name back in the seventies.

But if you like it then use it!

MrsBertBibby · 17/03/2021 23:37

Nina was my girl name.

What about Edith or Astrid?

Jane is a dull follow up to Nina.

Somethingkindaoooo · 17/03/2021 23:29

I like Jane/ Jayne

And Jaynie / Jayna

Tinty · 17/03/2021 23:28

How about Jenna and Nina

Tambourina · 17/03/2021 23:25

How about Wren?

Oodilallygolly · 17/03/2021 23:25

I really like Jane

Marimaur · 17/03/2021 23:25

Love Jane! Or Joan.

miltonj · 17/03/2021 23:24

I love Jane. So lovely to hear on a little one too!

Fudgecakes · 17/03/2021 23:18

**Jayne....blooming autocorrect

Bimblybomeyelash · 17/03/2021 23:17

Sorry I think it’s very plain.

How about:

Lara
Anya
Tessa
Erin

Fudgecakes · 17/03/2021 23:17

I really love the name Jane....why should it have the boring label? I prefer the spelling with a y...Jane. I also love Janey....but maybe I've read too many Jilly Cooper novels!!

GloomyWaters · 17/03/2021 23:15

I prefer Janey but Jane is nice as well

alannabanana81 · 17/03/2021 23:11

sorry I spelled it wrong! jaynie

Sandgrown1970 · 17/03/2021 23:11

@Vursayles

Lazy?! It’s a lovely, classic beacon in a sea of modern identikit names which really are boring as they’re so common! I’m really surprised by all the negative opinions.
Yes, lazy, in my opinion. I wasn’t by any means suggesting Ava, Isabelle etc. But there are plenty of names that aren’t anywhere near as dull nor are they as overused - Claudia for example as a pp suggested is a great name, Esther is another, Hilary, Antonia, Ruth, Imelda, Louisa, Petra, Rosalind, Tess, Frances...there’s loads of non-identikit, non-flowery, less boring, currently underused names if one actually thinks about it. I’ve genuinely never met a Jane that likes their name. Quite often “oh, I’m just plain Jane” with almost an apology for their name is how they introduce themselves which I find very sad.
alannabanana81 · 17/03/2021 23:10

what about janey? It was my aunt's name and she was very glamourous and elegant.

Synchrony · 17/03/2021 23:09

I really like it at think it's nice with Nina.

thelightishere · 17/03/2021 22:56

I love Jane. You could spell it Jayne and nn Janey is very sweet.

mediumduboir · 17/03/2021 22:49

I'm a Jane and hate it.

CakesOfVersailles · 17/03/2021 22:48

I really like Jane, it's beautiful to me and it makes me think of Jane Austen.

Easy to spell and a classic name. Everyone knows it but it's unusual amongst young children.

Fair warning however I also like names such as Mary, Emma and Anne.

RaininSummer · 17/03/2021 22:48

I think it's a nice name. No idea why it has to 'go with' the sister's name really. Joan seems more boring to me and Janessa et al seem very try hard.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/03/2021 22:45

I think Jane is a lovely, romantic, traditional name (always makes me think of the wonderful Jane Eyre) but because it's so uncommon now compared to past use, it doesn't really fit that well with Nina to me - Nina has stayed fairly steady in popularity outside the top 100, although it is now slowly rising.

Similar style names that "fit" with Nina to me (shortish, quite international feeling, classic but neither super popular or rarely used) - Eve, May, Lara, Sara, Rose/Rosa, Elena/Helena, Julia/Juliet, Lydia, Claudia, if that's any help?

scrivette · 17/03/2021 22:44

Whilst I think if plain Jane the Superbrain I actually think that for a little girl now it's lovely.

Children would not have those sorts of thoughts as it would be an unusual name to them.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/03/2021 22:36

Jane is my favourite name ever. I love it. It doesn't work with my surname or we would have used it.

daisypond · 17/03/2021 22:34

Jane is a million times better than Jade.

daryldixonsdreamgirl · 17/03/2021 22:33

What about Jade?
