Is Jane boring, and does it sound ok with sister Nina?

I love Jane - it's a simple, classic name that makes me think of strong, witty women like Jane Austen.

Sarcobaleno · 18/03/2021 07:29

Another Jane here and I don't like my name either. I get called Janie a lot which I prefer.

PrincessPea11 · 18/03/2021 07:26

I really like it, simplicity can be so beautiful.

Ticklemycarpets · 18/03/2021 07:20

What about Janey

HeronLanyon · 18/03/2021 06:08

I like Jane but agree once combined with Nina it will be seen as ‘plain Jane’. Op put it perfectly ‘you used you best name Nina and the. Ran out of ideas’ type reasoning.
That wouldn’t apply if you had a Jane followed by say a Catherine. Or the other way around.

Good luck

Blessex · 18/03/2021 05:56

John and Jane both boring IMO. But that is my opinion and you would probably think the names I like are too out there.

RonSwan · 18/03/2021 05:50

It’s the middle name for just about every girl born in the 70s and early 80s so always feels like a hugely overdone “middle” to me.
That being said...I think it’s a nice clean simple name and not too cutesy. I agree with pp that perhaps it would sound nicer to the younger generation. (I also think plain Jane superbrain....but then... didn’t she end up stunning everyone with her beauty in an ugly duckling-style turnaround?)

Kokeshi123 · 18/03/2021 05:34

(Really surprised by people saying Jane is boring, use Alice, Grace or Lily instead. I mean, all perfectly nice names, but they do not stand out at all. Jane is unusual for a baby right now)

leafygarden42 · 18/03/2021 05:34

I've only known quite 'difficult' people with the name Jane - and that is putting it politely. No - it's not a nice name, when there are so many pretty girls' names to choose from.

Kokeshi123 · 18/03/2021 05:33

Love Jane. And "Janey/Janie" as a nickname.

ivykaty44 · 18/03/2021 05:28

ShortSilentNight I agree, why would you really not get a name as it wasn’t perceived it “went” with your siblings name

Jane is a classic name, hard to shorten- though many seem to want to give nn for Jane

I think it’s as interesting name as Anna, of which there are thousands, and as beautiful a name as Nina

Go for it

UsedUpUsername · 18/03/2021 05:09

Jane is a really nice name that no one uses much anymore. Probably will be due for a comeback once all the Janes/Jaynes/Janeys born in the 40s/50s die off.

notangelinajolie · 18/03/2021 03:57

No. Jane is one of the lovely classic names. It's beautiful.

cassrose · 18/03/2021 03:32

Yes, sorry. Nina is really cool. I think Emma, Grace, Beth, Alice, Lily, Rose, Lucy are all nicer with Nina.

Lalliella · 18/03/2021 01:04

Love Nina by the way.

Lalliella · 18/03/2021 01:03

A bit. What about Jayna or Jana or Janette?

ShortSilentNight · 18/03/2021 00:17

Jane is a lovely name.

I don’t fully understand the concern about sibling names “going well” together either. I mean I get why we all instinctively consider it — but if you take a step back it’s not really very rational, right? For most people the majority of their life will be spent as an independent adult, not facing the world in company with a sibling all the time.

It just doesn’t seem like reason enough to rule out a name you otherwise like.

Potpourriandpennysweets · 18/03/2021 00:04

I like Jane. Also like the names Beth, Ruth, Eve and Anne. Simple gentle sounding names, but also names that have been around for a long time, names everyone knows how to read/say. No gimmicks.

Bluenightowl · 17/03/2021 23:59

It is a lovely simple name. I prefer it to Nina.

Happymum12345 · 17/03/2021 23:57

If you like it, I wouldn’t worry what other people think. Be confident in your choice of name. People will always have different opinions on names.

Firebird83 · 17/03/2021 23:53

It’s lovely and goes well with Nina. Janie is cute as a nn.

longcoffeebreak · 17/03/2021 23:47

Jane is sometimes a shortened nickname form of Jenifer which is nice

Mrstwiddle · 17/03/2021 23:47

Very boring I’m afraid. And I don’t think it goes particularly well with Nina. Alice or similar would be better.

rubydoobydoo · 17/03/2021 23:43

Love it, I always wanted to be called Jane or Jane or Janie!

I have a truly boring name myself and wouldn't put Jane in the same category, there's not that many of them and it sounds beautiful but strong at the same time.

Puffinhead · 17/03/2021 23:39

Having said that, I prefer Jane to Nina personally.
