Is Jane boring, and does it sound ok with sister Nina?

It is a bit dull imo, I'm afraid.

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/03/2021 19:13

Not boring, it's refreshing

Bee2543 · 20/03/2021 18:25

My middle name and I find it so bland

Onlinedilema · 20/03/2021 11:02

Same with the hated Clair though. Most Clair I know are very attractive and quite fiesty. It's just a name. Most Ambers do not have red hair. Lots of Ebonys are not black. Likewise most Hunters will not grow up to be hunters!!!!

Onlinedilema · 20/03/2021 11:00

Strange I've never met a Jane who want a great person and plenty of them were anything but plain most of them very attractive with lots of personality.
Likewise most of the Graces I've met have not exactly been ballerina material.

celestebellman · 20/03/2021 10:54

Really really dislike Jane, it’s v boring and I’ve never met a Jane able to carry it off through force of personality yet.
(Actually, having said that my Gran was Jane but called Jean from being a baby - not massively keen on Jean either but it’s a bit feistier than Jane).
Nina is lovely, Jane would definitely feel short changed. Like the suggestion of Lara with Nina.

goldenlady25 · 20/03/2021 10:53

I really like it

I'm 37 and never met a Jane

It feels sassy and funky

Onlinedilema · 20/03/2021 10:49

I prefer Jane to Nina. Then again I think a lot of the names mention on baby name threads are awful. I think Olive is awful so is Norah. I really dislike Stanley and Arthur type names too. It's horses for courses and each to their own opinion.

whatswithtodaytoday · 20/03/2021 10:34

Yes. It's boring and it has a reputation for being boring. It's my middle name and I hate it, may as well not have bothered.

Nina is lovely though.

Chillychangchoo · 20/03/2021 10:33

@Number3BigCupOfTea

Well I hope you’re right as I always felt like a plain Jane next to my sisters name, and I am a Jane lol !!!!

Number3BigCupOfTea · 20/03/2021 10:24

@PlantPotting

I prefer Jane to Nina! Nina is nice but similar feel to olivia, Ella and other popular names. Jane is more distinctive to me these days
I agree, I think a lot of people believe Jane-is-boring because a lot of other people think Jane-is-boring. It stands out now.

It's no more boring than any other short simple name. And in fact as a spanish speaker, although there's no eñe on the second n in Nina, it does read like 'girl', so I really disagree that Jane, sister of Nina, is going to feel short-changed in the name stakes!

CornishPastyDownUnder · 20/03/2021 10:24

Second pp suggestion of Gianna-beautiful.

TeckanandMultra · 20/03/2021 10:17

A young Jane would be very refreshing.

I think we perceive it as boring because it was EVERY girl's middle name in the 80, if it wasn't Louise.

We'll probably view the ubiquitous Rose, Grace and May the same in 30 years' time.

Chillychangchoo · 20/03/2021 09:04

Don’t do it. She will always feel like a plain Jane next to a Nina.

Onlinedilema · 20/03/2021 07:17

I love Jane.

Tatum1234 · 19/03/2021 13:54

Yes very dull.

samandpoppysmummy · 19/03/2021 13:36

I love the name Jane

Flymetothestars · 19/03/2021 10:37

Jane is a great name

Enko · 19/03/2021 08:16

Dull yes

Jana?

Kokeshi123 · 19/03/2021 00:48

Until MN I never knew that there were people who were so preoccupied with sibling names exactly matching (same kind of time period, same kind of popularity ranking, similar length, same frilliness index, similar plausibility of being used by the Royal Family etc..)

In real life, people might think it was odd if you called your kids two names that were so completely dissimilar as to sound comic ("Persephone and Bob" "Laycey-Jade and Elizabeth") but nobody would think Nina and Jane don't "go" with each other. They are both perfectly nice, recognizable girls' names--why wouldn't they go together?

Lastbonestanding · 19/03/2021 00:22

No, it is not boring. It is pretty!

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 19/03/2021 00:17

I really love it , personally don’t know anyone with that name .

finallychangedmyusername · 18/03/2021 21:42

I do like the simplicity of the name Jane, but if I was a Jane and had a sister named Nina I'd feel that she got the better name.

I'd expect Nina's sister to be named Zoe, Lara, Esmé, Amy, Ellen, Freya, Heidi, Clara, Tess or Tessa.

SirVixofVixHall · 18/03/2021 21:26

I really like Jane. I think of the song “sweet Jane” , but also it is one of those simple, classic names that everyone can spell, everyone can pronounce, and I like the elegance of it.
Also helps that I know a Jane ( she is 80) who is clever, kind and interesting.
