Recently being loving Atlas for a little girl! What do you think?

Asta?

VenusClapTrap · 13/03/2021 13:17

Aurora is fine, and not common. I don’t know a single one.

I used to know a teenage Atalanta who was cool as.

@Ithinkhedidit

There is a celebrity (an American one I think) with a baby girl called Atlas. Mn will never approve an unusual name by the way, tastes tend to the very traditional on here. I like Aurora too!
There's unusual, then there's naming your tiny baby girl Bodybuilder.
MynahBird · 13/03/2021 12:24

I know a little girl Atlas! At first I thought I'd misheard 'Alice' - but now it's grown on me and has become just the normal name of my friend's daughter.

I prefer Aurora. Have you thought of Arielle/Ariella?

YukoandHiro · 13/03/2021 11:53

Honestly no

StillGoingToWork · 13/03/2021 11:53

Artemisia (artist)?
I've also like Minerva and Dido.

occa · 13/03/2021 11:48

Aurora is beautiful. And nn Rory is great. Love it.

snoopcat · 13/03/2021 11:48

Not sure I like. How about Globe, map, ordnance or geographic instead?

abbieamelia7 · 13/03/2021 11:46

The other name we were thinking about is Aurora? Love the meaning but scared it’s getting popular? A little bit of popularity doesn’t put me off but it does when it’s everywhere.

You know Atlas, from Greek mythology, bore the weight of the world on his shoulders? For that reason alone I would avoid using it for any child.

GintyMcGinty · 13/03/2021 08:54

Please don't.

ILoveStickers · 13/03/2021 08:49

Artemis? Or Atalanta, like the Greek heroine?

YouAreYourBestThing · 13/03/2021 08:48

🤣🤣🤣🤦‍♀️

user1493494961 · 13/03/2021 08:44

You could give it a trial and call yourself Atlas for a few weeks and see what sort of reaction you get.

KaptainKaveman · 13/03/2021 08:22

@katy1213

If she grows up to be a female body-builder with a six-pack and tattoos - it might be quite nice.
Exactly!

How about Sycorax?

EssentialHummus · 13/03/2021 08:16

Artemis?

deethra · 13/03/2021 08:14

Personally I think it sounds quite masculine.
My DS (9) has a boy in his class called Atlas. I do love the name, and think its unusual and quirky, but I'm not sold on it for a girl.
How about using it as a middle name if you really like it?
Also, for what it's worth my DD had a typically male variant of a name (although I think it sounds feminine). If you really like Atlas for a girl, then don't let others sway you too much. Although, due to the fact you're asking for opinions, I'd guess you aren't 100% sold on it?!

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/03/2021 03:00

It's about the most masculine name possible.

And, once again, the only reason girls are given boys' names and boys aren't given girls' names is because being a boy is a promotion and being a girl is a demotion.

Time to raise a strong, awesome, cute, fearless, loving Persephone-Athena. Screw the boys' names.

Atlas was a bloke though.

partyatthepalace · 13/03/2021 02:23

@DPotter

For the sake of all you hold to be holy and sacred - just no
Quite.

OP - Atlas is a mythical bruiser who carries the world on his back, you might as well call your daughter Neptune.

If you want a mythological name for her there are many to chose from - Athena, Diana, Freya, Bridget, Persephone, etc

CrayonInThreeBits · 13/03/2021 02:20

I immediately think of some ripped hunk with a massive ball, so, no.
