Thoughts on the boy’s name Nori?

(Not as a shortened version for anything)

Yep, seaweed.

It would be okay as a nickname for Norris.

ladywithnomanors · 12/03/2021 19:52

A nori is a red brick where I come from

KirstenBlest · 12/03/2021 19:48

I think Norman is due a comeback

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 12/03/2021 16:31

Seaweed or sushi

sarah13xx · 12/03/2021 16:24

@emmathedilemma

I know a few Norrie's in Scotland who are Norman. I quite like it.
This is where I got it from, I’m Scottish 🤷🏼‍♀️ But it would seem you’re the only one who agrees with me on it 😂

It’s often used as a nickname for Norman

Is it? All the Norman's I know are either Norman or Norm. Never heard of a Nori.

Pebbledashery · 12/03/2021 12:48

It would just remind me of seaweed. Your child won't thank you for it in the future!

Alwayswrongneverright · 12/03/2021 12:44

My first thought was also North kardashian-West, she's known as nori

RhubarbCustardy · 10/03/2021 23:24

Also 'are you ignori me?' sort of thing other kids might say? Sounds a bit like Nora too. Just saying.

DingoWings · 10/03/2021 23:22

@sarah13xx

Wow, thatl be a resounding no then 🤣

It’s often used as a nickname for Norman hence why I’d see it as a boy’s name

Norm is the only nickname for Norman that I have ever heard of.
DingoWings · 10/03/2021 23:21

My thoughts? It's a kind of seaweed!

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 10/03/2021 23:19

@sarah13xx yes Milo Grin. Exactly! If you like it just go for it!

partyatthepalace · 10/03/2021 23:15

It’s seaweed / it’s definitely not ‘often’ used as a nn for Norman. I wouldn’t.

EssentialHummus · 10/03/2021 23:13

Nori... isn't it time for...?

This for me too. I now have the stick song in my head Grin.

sarah13xx · 10/03/2021 23:10

@ThatsNotTheTeaHunty

I think it's nice. When I saw it I thought of Hey Duggee but DS is Duggee mad so used to hearing it a lot. Every time I see DS's name I either see it being referred to as a dogs name or the Tweenies. Even though Tweenies is what 20 years old? Point is if you like it go for it, don't be put off by what other people say Grin.
Milo? It’s funny the things people come away with when it’s not something you’ve ever thought 🤔 I think the harsh reaction on here is enough to put me off if that’s what everyone else is going to think. I have a definite future girls name picked that starts with N so just thought it went so much better than the other names I’m considering but I think I should just pick one I like and not think about anyone else

Norris Cole is a fictional character from the British soap opera Coronation Street, played by Malcolm Hebden.

That's what I thought of when I read the name "Nori", I assumed it was a nickname for someone called Norris.

It’s Norrie not Nori. But as Norman is dying out as a name and Norrie/Nori is very similar to Noorie / Nora and other girls names ppl would consider it a feminine name.

I like the name Noi, I think it's the character's name in the storm whale

doodlejump1980 · 10/03/2021 22:44

Hey Duggeeeeee!

Cbeebiesrehab · 10/03/2021 22:36

Hey Duggee over here too, sorry. Although I can see it’s appeal (when not associated with seaweed and CBeebies)

Eminybob · 10/03/2021 22:32

Isn’t it North Kardashian-West’s nickname? That was my first thought. Never heard of it as a shortening of Norman.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/03/2021 22:26

I understand it's a Japanese name but I also associate it with sushi, sorry. Do you have Japanese links or could you maybe consider similar Ori? - it's a Hebrew boys name. Alternatively you could use Ori as a nn for Oliver, Orlando, Orrin, Orion etc.

greatauntfanny · 10/03/2021 22:23

Uncle Oin and Gloin

Nori?
