Vinnie or Jenson?

Which name do you prefer, Vinnie (nickname Vin) or Jenson (nickname Jens)?

both names are really unusual here in Scotland - only 11 called Vinnie in the last year and 26 called Jenson

Vinnie is lovely. Jenson is awful

Love Vinnie, but I would go with Vincent and call him Vinnie and Vin for nn.

FourTurnings · 09/03/2021 17:31

My DS is called Vincent, I adore it.

@scrivette

Jenson, there are 2 in my son's Primary school so it's not mega popular.
Is this in England? I really like Jenson, the only thing holding me back slightly is worrying it sounds a bit chavvy but I don’t think it can in Scotland where there are virtually none

Oh sorry I didn't read your PP properly!

I think then between Vinnie and Jenson I prefer Jenson. I'm in Scotland and don't know any! And don't worry about the chavvy thing - you can worry names are too posh, too chavvy, too common or whatever but ultimately you just have to like the name and think it's a good, solid name for someone to grow up with.

Yeah that’s what I thought! As long as it doesn’t become really popular over the next few years and become chavvy here 🙈 you take that risk with any name though I suppose! The Scotland name list for the previous year is usually released within the next week based on the last few years dates so desperately waiting to see what’s on from 2020

@SwimmingInToys

Love Vincent. It seems more classic to me but still very cool.

Jenson is nice, I like that kind of style and my DS has that sort of surnamey name, I do like it.

But Vincent is a better all-rounder I think. Also know a Vincenzo nn Enzo which makes me wish I'd married an Italian

Thanks.. I don’t see us using Vincent, I think we’d probably just use Vinnie. Have a weird feeling that’s what Mrs Hinch will call hers 🙈

Jenson has been my favourite from the start but I think other people’s opinions on here based on how popular it seems to be elsewhere and how it can sometimes be seen as chavvy is putting me off.

Love the nickname Enzo!

I'd prefer Vincent, then he can be Vinnie if he chooses, or keep his Sunday name. Not keen on Jenson.
Don’t think I like Vincent the same. I know someone with a dog called that 🙈 and I think it sounds too posh for us! Vinnie does kind of sound like a nickname though

@Strokethefurrywall

I love Vinnie, very cute. Not as keen on Jenson but that's because it's a more popular name around here.
I think that seems to be problem with Jenson.. I can’t get anyone’s opinion on it who doesn’t know kids called Jenson. Whereas I like it because it doesn’t remind me of anyone. Both names might rise in popularity in Scotland in the next few years but it’s so hard to tell

I dislike Jenson I'm afraid - it's not awful by any means, I just don't warm to it and I'm not sure why. Vinnie seems like a nn anyway. I'd go for Vincent and then shorten however you like. How about Leonard / Lenny? Similar kind of feel.
