Baby is due in May, gender unknown but pretty sold on a boys name. Please could I have your opinions on these names for a girl;

.Effie
.Marlow
.Noa

Really like Marlow but not too keen on it being shortened to Marlie/Marley.

TIA

My fav is Marlowe but I prefer it with the W on the end without is usually the male version.

I know one who is 2 and her name never gets shortened

Good luck

hulloall · 06/03/2021 20:41

I love the name Effie!

User1511 · 06/03/2021 20:36

I don’t like Noa. Effie is really lovely. Marlow won’t get shortened unless you do it.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/03/2021 20:35

Jane.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/03/2021 20:35

I love Effie, but it's a bit too nicknamey for me to use as a given name personally (would be lovely as a nn for Josephine, Ophelia, Stephanie, Persephone, maybe even Elizabeth or Sophia).

Marlow is super trendy/celeb sounding imo so very much not to my taste. Much prefer similar but popular Willow (or rarer Juno or Clio).

Noa is nice - but because Noah for boys is so popular now, there will be a lot of gender confusion when hearing the name if that matters to you? You could consider similar (if a bit more trendy) Nova instead?

Chunkymenrock · 06/03/2021 20:34

Effie sounds like effing (f-ing) Noa is weird and Marlow is the least bad but I'm afraid I dislike them all.

Plump82 · 06/03/2021 20:32

Love Noa. Kate Lawler (Big Brother winner Virgin Radio DJ) has just had a baby and called her Noa. I think its lovely.

DinosaurDiana · 06/03/2021 20:29

Marley.

Twinkie01 · 06/03/2021 20:26

Effing Hell. Sorry just reminds me of swearing!

Noa is the nicest.

Synchrony · 06/03/2021 20:18

I guess Effie. The others sound like boy names to me.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 06/03/2021 20:09

I love Effie, short for Euphemia. Greek?

Nell96 · 06/03/2021 19:57

Effie - not keen, perhaps ok as a nn for Ophelia or something else? Seems a bit insubstantial.
Marlow - sounds quite masculine to me, I'd prefer something like Mira.
Noa - sounds like Noah. It's the best of the three. My dd is called Nia, which I love - I also really like Neneh and Nina.

KirstenBlest · 06/03/2021 19:57

.Effie - Effin awful
.Marlow - nice town by the Thames
.Noa - people will think you really wanted a boy

FASDE1517 · 06/03/2021 19:43

I love Effie

user1493494961 · 06/03/2021 19:26

Agree with a pp, awful names.

Twisique · 06/03/2021 19:20

Effie and Marlow.
Noa is nice but its too close to the popular Noah.

Suggestions: Mallory and Etta

Laquila · 06/03/2021 19:06

I quite like them all but I think Noa is my preference. I think of Effie as short for Ephigenia, which is pretty ballsy nowadays. It might be hard to avoid the Marley/Marls nicknames for Marlowe.

CatBiscuits · 06/03/2021 19:05

I like Noa best.

Effie sounds like a nickname rather than a 'proper' name and Marlow just reminds me of the town or that detective!

IWouldBeSuperb · 06/03/2021 19:01

I think Effie is pretty popular at the moment - I know of three recently!

So depends if that would bother you?

EileenGC · 06/03/2021 19:00

Noa is gorgeous!

Dayafterday · 06/03/2021 19:00

Noa

AnxiousAnnie86 · 06/03/2021 18:59

@RouxLou Noa is my absolute favourite name ever! I really want to name our little girl it but husband says no :( 💯 what I would choose xx

Druidlookingidiot · 06/03/2021 18:57

Awful names, sorry.

KindnessCrusader · 06/03/2021 18:56

Noa is beautiful. I live near Marlow. Beautiful place. But the name would be shortened to Marley and I'm not sure about that!

Jelly4444 · 06/03/2021 18:55

Noa is lovely! Not keen on Effie or Marlow.
