Baby is due in May, gender unknown but pretty sold on a boys name. Please could I have your opinions on these names for a girl;

.Effie
.Marlow
.Noa

Really like Marlow but not too keen on it being shortened to Marlie/Marley.

TIA

I have an Effie, a pet name for Elizabeth.

Polecat03 · 08/03/2021 20:41

Effie by elimination, can't get behind the other two, sorry.

Ginnywoofly · 08/03/2021 20:34

Nice ideas how about Marla, Mallorie, Marnie, Nova, Nora, Stephanie/Persephone/Josephine, nn Effie, Elsie

DotDotDotDotDot · 08/03/2021 17:37

Sorry OP I just saw your last update. In that case Winter is nice, she could have Winnie for short.

DotDotDotDotDot · 08/03/2021 17:35

Noa is such a cool name for a girl, also has real name credentials. Marlow is awful, sorry, not as bad as Harlow though which I heard recently. Agree that Effie is cute but only as a nickname for something else.

sarah13xx · 08/03/2021 17:24

These are all lovely and unusual but not ‘weird’ names. Kate Lawler has just called her wee girl Noa spelt the same way and I love it. Really like Effie too. I don’t know whether the popularity of Noah for a boy would put me off Noa. Think I’d maybe sway towards Effie for that reason

Cbeebiesrehab · 07/03/2021 18:00

If you go for Effie you won’t regret it😉 and for what it’s worth, despite Mumsnet assuring you otherwise, she has never had any ‘eff off’ comments or being asked about Skins. Winter is also lovely though.

RouxLou · 07/03/2021 17:49

Thank you for all your thoughts and opinions, it’s really helpful! Unfortunately partner has definitely ruled out Noa so it’s between Effie, Marlow or Winter (our previous front runner that I for some reason lost interest in and now has popped up again) :)

I have an Effie so that obviously wins for me! My friend has a Noa and I love it! Although when talking about her she often clarifies she’s a girl so that’s something to consider. Marlow seems very different in style.

Arrierttyclock · 07/03/2021 17:37

Love all these! My friend has little Noa! I know a woman called Effie whose about 50. My fave jn order are probably

Effie
Marlow
Noa

hiredandsqueak · 07/03/2021 17:03

Not Effie from about year 5 she will be called Effie Nell. Marlow and Noa aren't really my sort of names but I prefer Marlow.

AfterEightsBeforeEight · 07/03/2021 16:58

Effie is the name of one Turkish and one Greek restaurant in our near vicinity. There's a chain of DIY/garden centre things called Marlow. Noa Noa is a perfume.

Sorry Flowers

Ijustlikedthename · 07/03/2021 16:53

LOVE Effie! Like Noa too

amanzapanza · 07/03/2021 02:23

NOA✨

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 07/03/2021 01:32

Noa is gorgeous! Its the name of one of a pretty cool group of sisters in the Old Testament. I love it!

Effie and Marlow are cute too but Marlow probably will ge Marlie

DramaAlpaca · 07/03/2021 00:59

Marlow is not my style but it's interesting. I think it looks better spelled Marlowe, then you're using a surname for a first name instead of a place name.

Noa for a girl is so, so much nicer than Noah for a boy. I can't bear Noah, but quite like Noa.

Effie, just a definite 'no' to this.

littlemisslozza · 06/03/2021 21:54

Not Marlow. It's a town.
I like Noa but have never heard it for a girl. I know quite a few male Noah's though so she might get irritated by having to correct people. How about Nia? Pretty name.
Not a fan of Effie I'm afraid. We have a kebab shop nearby called Effie's so I can't get past that! Edie is nice though.

ladygindiva · 06/03/2021 21:51

I like Marlow and Noa. Effie just makes me think of eff off, or effing and jeffing... I really don't like it all.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/03/2021 21:49

I like Effie, I'd possibly consider if theres a longer version and NN to Effie but it's cute. Now on a girl is really sweet.
Marlow I'd assume was a boy, it's ok but I prefer Marley

DragonPoop · 06/03/2021 21:47

Effie hands down is the nicest

VenusClapTrap · 06/03/2021 21:45

I’m not keen on any of them, but Noa is the least bad. Effie is too babyish. I know a little boy called Marlow, and I don’t even like it on him and he’s very sweet.

Psychobobble · 06/03/2021 21:02

Kate Lawlor has just called her dd Noa, for some reason my facebook seems to think I am fascinated by this....
So if that matters to you, you may want to avoid it.

7catsandcounting · 06/03/2021 21:01

Effie is very nice!

SemperIdem · 06/03/2021 20:59

Effie - I’d assume mum really idolised the character from Skins if 30 or younger.

Marlow - Sienna Miller fan girl

Noa- lovely
