Thoughts on the name Cole

Hi, im due my 3rd baby soon and really struggling on a boys name this time. We already have 1 son who has a very traditional name (Henry) which we love, but a lot of other traditional names I like are already taken by friends or family this time around. I've always liked the name Cole (probably from being a huge charmed fan when i was younger) but worry about it being too "out there" so would appreciate your thoughts. My husband is keen on the name Monty but I'm not sure about that either... 😬

I really like it.

I have a cat called Monty....

zingally · 06/03/2021 15:05

I like the name Cole, and don't know any personally.

Don't like Monty. It's a dog/cat name.

sarah13xx · 06/03/2021 14:34

I’m trying to name a boy just now too. I printed off the top 1000 boy names in Scotland and only ticked 5 that I like 🤦🏼‍♀️ Cole was one of them! X

Cbeebiesrehab · 06/03/2021 10:14

Not keen on Cole. I say it funny with my accent too. Much prefer Monty and I think it goes better with Henry.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 06/03/2021 03:05

Like it!

Gobbeldegook · 06/03/2021 00:25

🐟

Gobbeldegook · 06/03/2021 00:24

As long as your surname doesn't begin with y

Rosecottage888 · 06/03/2021 00:22

As a massive charmed fan I say go for it! I have 2 boys and still waiting for my girl so I can call her Piper 😍

I also know a 5yr old Cole and it suits him

singlewhitefemale11 · 06/03/2021 00:05

I kinda like it. It isn't a bad name. I do however think of coal, carl, ashley/cheryl cole.

ShipshapeShore · 05/03/2021 22:40

I really like Cole. Bit different but not out there.

Nell96 · 05/03/2021 22:37

One of the main characters in 'The Affair' was called Cole, played by the very handsome Joshua Jackson. Therefore I think of Cole as being a great name for a man - I see it as quite a manly, rugged, outdoorsy kind of name. Not totally sure about a baby Cole... It also has quite an American feel to it - no bad thing though.

Monty is dreadful, please don't go for that.

Cole is awful, it's about as far removed from Henry as you could get.

littlemisslozza · 05/03/2021 22:31

Don't like Cole, sorry. Partly because the ones I've known have all been poorly behaved or bullies. It's also too 'surnamey' for me.

On the other hand I like Monty. I know two, 10-12 age bracket and I find it quite cool.

DramaAlpaca · 05/03/2021 22:24

I don't like either Cole or Monty at all.

pilates · 05/03/2021 22:13

Cole is awful, sorry

purplebiscuits · 05/03/2021 22:04

Cole is lovely!

Monty is awful!
I know someone with 2 boys Monty & Murphy Confused

RoundedTum · 05/03/2021 22:01

And monty is my gerbil 🐹 - sorry!

RoundedTum · 05/03/2021 22:01

Not keen on names that are also nouns. Cole just makes me think of the lumps I put on my fire!

WithASpider · 05/03/2021 21:55

I went to primary school with a Cole, he was older than me and the only one I've ever met. He's about 42 now. I really like the name.

Chilldonaldchill · 05/03/2021 21:37

Monty is gorgeous. I'm not keen on Cole.

SchmooobyDoo · 05/03/2021 21:26

I think of coleslaw & cold sore. Sorry!

Monty is a dog’s name. Or a cat...

Ukholidaysaregreat · 05/03/2021 21:23

I think Cole goes with Riley, Logan, Kai type names. Surnames as first names type.

BettyOBarley · 05/03/2021 21:15

I like Cole. Monty is awful.

Aquamarine1029 · 05/03/2021 21:14

Love Cole, absolutely hate Monty.

HikingInTheHills · 05/03/2021 21:11

I hope he doesn’t want to travel to Australia when he’s older as one of our major supermarket chains is called Coles, so the name Cole would be a bit odd!
