Thoughts on Jupiter for a boy. Possible nicknames?
@HolyMusicalBman did you go for it? We are considering it if baby is a boy!
Yep, suits him so much

@namedilemas thank you! It's such a lovely name I think but I worry it's a heavy burden to pull off as a first name and might be a bit too brave for us. Middle name gives him the option to use it or not Smile

namedilemas · 19/05/2021 18:07

@lucymagoo brilliant! Fingers crossed your baby boy makes his appearance soon it's a fab name, we don't know what we're having currently 33 weeks and bouncing name ideas

Newgirls · 19/05/2021 18:05

Love it. Think you might be just ahead of the game and there might be a few in a few years time.

lucymagoo · 19/05/2021 18:03

@namedilemas I'm using it as a middle name for my little boy, with a traditional first name Smile currently 40+2 so should be along any day

Jove (another name for the God Jupiter) might work. It still suggests a fair whack of hubris, though! But, objectively, Jove is very nice sounding.

TatianaBis · 24/03/2021 18:49

I like classical names so I'm not sure why it doesn't grab me.

IHateThinkingUpANewUsername · 24/03/2021 18:38

Congratulations, Ashley. Grin

(Ashley Tisdale has announced that she gave birth to a baby called Jupiter)

ColonelPine · 04/03/2021 20:24

No

partyatthepalace · 04/03/2021 20:22

I like it... but it’s a big name... I’m not sure I’d want to live with it

user1493494961 · 03/03/2021 20:21

Just call him Peter then.

HolyMusicalBman · 03/03/2021 18:44

@IamnotwhouthinkIam

Too brave for me, sorry - although it would make a fun middle name. Orion, Altair, and possibly even Atlas, Perseus and Apollo are "space" themed and more useable as (uncommon) first names imo.
I've thought of Perseus, I love it

Have you consider Uranus?

3CCC · 03/03/2021 18:42

I quite like it- wouldn't be brave enough to use it though

There's a character in Jilly Coopers books called Jupiter

user1493494961 · 03/03/2021 18:36

Awful.

fabulousspider · 03/03/2021 18:34

How about Zeus? Same god, slightly more acceptable name!

Jupiter Jones. Brains of The Three Investigators.

Hated his name being shortened.

TheySeeHerRowling · 03/03/2021 17:25

There's a Getty child called Jupiter, I think. You can probably get away with it if you're as rich as Croesus. (What about Croesus?)

ThreeFeetTall · 03/03/2021 17:11

There is a Netflix show with a girl called Luna and her brother is Jupiter. I kinda like it.

Bamaluz · 03/03/2021 17:06

Jupiter!
Fireman Sam's fire engine, I know a three year old that would think it's a fabulous name.
I think it's awful, you're already even be thinking of an alternative to use so he can blend in more? That's just odd.

BirthChoice · 03/03/2021 16:58

It’s just Rupert starting with a J and with an A on the end Grin
Rupes is quite a common shortening of Rupert so it’d maybe get shortened to Jupes?
I think if I met someone called Jupiter I’d think WTF then get used to it pretty quickly.

CustardyCreams · 03/03/2021 16:47

Actually I think it is great, and usually I hate unusual names. I knew a guy called Neptune once, he wore it well. He was more of a Norman, character-wise, and somehow gave the name a mundane normalcy that made it rather nice. I think with a name like Jupiter you could become anything, be anyone. Go for it.

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/03/2021 16:31

It's one of those names that sounds cool in theory and yes would work on a cute little toddler but I can't imagine any man would want to be called Jupiter, it is very out there (and I say that s as someone with a daughter who has an unusual, rarely used name)

Nicknames I guess Jupes?
