Wild card - Emerald

I've posted what feels like 100 times so far about our baby name for DD due in 2 weeks.

Middle name will be Jean - that's pretty much a certainty.

We had almost decided on the first name Darcy - surname begins with a D and I like the alliteration.

But, we have a bit of a wild card alternative for the first name - Emerald, nn Emmy.

Can I have honest thoughts? Is it too "out there"?

So -

Darcy Jean

Emerald Jean?

I know more about Nancy Cunard, so I experience Emerald C primarily as mildly disastrous mother-figure -- but I think she only started calling herself Emerald after her husband died, when she was about fifty...? (When she was fondly expecting to be Queen Wallis' Mistress of the Robes, apparently, and was completely devastated when he abdicated... )

I knew an emerald at work. She was Australian and when she started literally EVER person she met commented on her name I liked it tho.

As long as your dd is ok with a lifetime of of
'Ooooh how unusual etc etc etc'

Emerald is a bit 1920s showgirl, but I like it far more than Darcy.

I thought Emerald Cunard. Who wasn’t a showgirl!

And who apparently started life as Maude Alice Burke.........

I'd be quite tempted to give her one of these middle names

Madison — Wisconsin.
Elizabeth — New Jersey.
Savannah — Georgia.
Charlotte — North Carolina.
Alexandria — Virginia.
Aurora — Illinois.
Phoenix — Arizona.
Logan — Utah.

So that she would be Emerald City because Wizard of Oz is the best film ever.

I love Emerald. Gorgeous.
Not keen on darcy.

However I will say that when I discuss outlandish names that we didnt go for with my kids, they are hugely relieved!

Emerald is definitely a name that needs to be lived up to! If your dd is a shrinking violet she may not appreciate it!

I love Emerald Jean and I happen to know a fabulous Emmy.

Definitely prefer it to Darcy.

I prefer Darcy, and definitely don’t see it as less classy than Emerald. I think Darcy is a lot more wearable for any type of person, be it someone flashy and cool or someone plain and reserved.

Darcy isn't a bad name but I just know a lot of dogs called Darcy. Emerald is far more classy!

I absolutely love the name Emerald. Emmy and Emma also great short versions. It's much nicer than Darcy I think you should go for it!

I much prefer Emerald. I'm not a fan of Darcy at all, unless it's for a boy. Emerald is a beautiful name and Emmy as a nn makes it feel less out there

Overthinking it. Emerald is just lovely. Goes perfectly fine with Jean imo. Why not wait to see her little face before you decide if you're still unsure. I wish I'd called my daughter Emerald.
