Georgina

I love the name. I have a friend who called her child Georgina so unfortunately it is off limits for me. She nicknames her 'Georgie,' which is also really cute.

I adore it. Reminds me of Upstairs Downstairs. Very stylish.

To the PP -Ginny could work! When you think about it, there are Margarets nicknamed Peggy, Johns nicknamed Jack, Catherines nicknamed Kate, Christophers nicknamed Kit, and Veronicas nicknamed Vera. So….Why not Georgina nickname Ginny! It’s up to you.

I’m a Georgina and am only known as Tina 😳 didn’t realize there were more of us!!
I was very small as a child in height and was nicknamed Tina by an aunt and it stuck
Was only called Georgina by my teachers doctors etc, it’s not a bad name but not my favorite

Gia (geea) might be another nn but people might get it mixed with Gina

GeorginaMC I was thinking throughout reading this thread that Ginny would the perfect current nickname for Georgina. It may not be people's first go to, but if you consistently introduce yourself as Ginny that will be your name! If anyone then asks what it's short for, Georgina still makes sense. Georgina is a lovely name and the ones I know go by Georgie, George and Gina. Georgie and Gina are both great, not childish at all, and IMO stylish. Ginny is fine too but usually short for Virginia, but if you like it, why not.

I’m a Georgina, I’ve never really been keen on my name it just always sounds so formal.
Ever since I can remember I’ve used nicknames, Georgie, Gigi, Flossie, and most commonly Georgie. But I just feel like I’ve outgrown that nickname, it’s just feels a bit childish and not really me anymore. I’ve been considering other nicknames and I really like the nickname Ginny. Would that be too much of a stretch? Or would that be an appropriate nickname? I’m starting a new school soon and so I would like a fresh start with a new name. (I’m on here because I was looking up if the nickname was appropriate and I came across this post, I am only 16 and not a mum). Does anyone have any advice?? Mums always seem to know best so I thought this would be a good place to ask🤗

Great name! Gee.

My grandmother was Georgina, shortened to Ena her whole life. A cousin is Georgina and close friends and family call her Georgie.

I think it's a really lovely name.
I went to school with 2 - one nicknamed Gee, and the other always called by her full Georgina name, never shortened at all.

I’m Georgina and get Georgie / Gee.

The Georginas I know are George and Georgi.

I know a Nina who is Ninette. Not really keen though. Nina by itself is much nicer IMO. I like Georgina.

i have a georgiana and her name is generally shortened to george, georgie, or gigi. i don’t tend to shorten her name though, and a lot of people do seem to take my lead and use her full name too.

I know 5, of which 3 were born in the late 60s. They are George, George and Gina. The Georgina now in her 20s is Gina and a young Georgina is Georgie.

I think its a great name. People will come up with their own shortening but if she prefers Georgina she can say. A bit like Samantha being Sam.

And to add, I’ve only ever known one other Georgina, so definitely not very common and yet never have any issues with people not knowing the name or pronunciation

A real life Georgina here. I’ve never loved the name to be honest, but good thing is that I’m rarely called by my full name.
At work I’ve managed to keep it mainly as Georgina which doesn’t feel too formal, but people automatically shorten it (with or without asking first) so with various different groups I’m called George, Gina, G, Georgie (which I hate), GiGi (nieces struggling with the long name) but never Nina, bit too much of a stretch I’d say.
So be prepared for everyone to shorten it and choose their own nickname (with no consistency or say from the Georgina herself)

If you want a longer version for Nina, I think Antonia would be more obvious. Georgina is more Gee, Gigi, Gia, Gina, Georgie territory.

But I think the full Georgina is fine - not too "snooty" or formal (having said that, you obviously can't really predict or prevent nicknames once at school or if she wants one herself).

I've personally always preferred the frilly but Austenesque Georgiana, but Georgina is nice and not heard much now (and without being too dated, it's fairly classic imo)

The adult Georgina I know never shortens her name, so it can be done. I don't think there's anything odd about not shortening it, probably because my friend never does it's normal to me.

Georgina is lovely. It's so much nicer, and dare I say classier, than Georgia.

Nina is probably a bit too much of a stretch, but it's similar to Gina so it might work.
