Kivrin, Leisha, Kira, Sirius, Ezri, Valen.

From your list I like Naomi and Lyra. I haven't seen the Expanse so I might be wrong on pronunciation, but I worry that anyone introduced as Chrisjen might be mistaken for Christian or Christienne?

@ZoyaTheDestroyer

How are you defining sci-fi? I'd say that His Dark Materials is fantasy.
I think there is pure sci fi at one end eg The Expanse, and pure fantasy at the other, eg Earthsea but there's some quote about advanced technology being indistinguishable from magic.

Seven of Nine is a great name. Not sure she is the ideal role model.

Jadzia from (I think) Star Trek. A friend has one.

How about Servalan from Blake's 7 for a girl? Perhaps not...

shanks313 · 25/02/2021 21:44

I have a Deanna from Star Trek and Aeryn from Farscape

RomanMum · 25/02/2021 21:38

Ah now Katniss. Does that work?

Lol at Blake's Seven character names. I loved that series at the time, and the names Blake and Tarrant.

I love Chrisjen. But I'm a fan of the Expanse and particularly that character.

I also like Sadavir (the name not the character, who is a bit a of a shit). I tried to convince my husband that it would be a great name for DS. Sadly, he did not agree.

Mrsfrumble · 25/02/2021 19:12

“Servalan” GrinGrinGrin

I love The Expanse; it’s one of my favourite series ever. So many strong female characters, but I agree that Chrisjen sounds too much like a Renesmee-style mash-up. Maybe Shoreh, after the actor who plays her? I also like Clarissa / Melba. Josephus might be taking it a bit far though Grin

Standrewsschool · 25/02/2021 18:43

Orion
Soren

Livpool · 25/02/2021 18:38

My DN is Aeryn from Farscape (I think!)

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/02/2021 18:09

Ah, I see - in that case I would look for characters names that sound like other popular/"real" names , as it means they tend to be more useable eg. Han instead of Sam, Leia instead of Leila, Coraline instead of Caroline, Sansa instead of Susanna, Jarleth instead of Gareth, Ilyria instead of Lydia etc.

@therocinante

I love this (as you can tell from my username) ☺️

I feel like Amos, Naomi, Holden... All usable. Camina is fine. Chrisjen maybe too far, but I don't know if that's an actual name - I just have never heard it anywhere else!

Love your username. I think Chrisjen would get misread. Amos I don't know if it has strong associations with the Bible.

I named DD something from a book, she is the only person with that name in the uk the year she was born (haven't checked any other years)

She suits it and gets complimented however it is not far off more standard, though still relatively unusual names, and it is phonetic so easy to say and spell

SeanChailleach · 25/02/2021 17:17

Ah yes Camina in Spanish. Thanks @florascotia2
Some of the Expanse spellings are from the invented Belta dialect. I guess some work in current English and some don't.
