Has anyone ruined a name for you?

I used to love the name Fleur and would have actually used it. Then my sister casually said it was like Cilla Black saying 'flare', and now I have such a strong association that I couldn't possibly use it. Has this happened to anyone else?

She didn’t really ruin it for you, she just pointed out an association. If you thought she was talking nonsense you’d have ignored her.

This same question was asked on here very recently if you go back a few pages I'm sure you'll be able to find it. We can all find fault with basically any name, some more so than others sure but they're usually obvious as with Fanny, Lolita etc.

I might know an awful [insert name] and someone else will have a sweet brilliant kiddo called [insert name] so it doesn't seem to help much. There are names that are perfectly acceptable that I'll never consider using because of personal experience but that's personal.

You can also Google: Famous people called [Insert Name] to search names you're intersted in and you'll also likely get a Wikipedia page with well known people past and present and fictional characters.

Behindthename.com gives an insight into public opinion, pronunciation and origin.

As for names that are ruined for me they are Bleep, Bleep and Bleep.
