Going for Edward - I'm biased as I think that's what we are going to be calling our number 2 boy when he arrives! Smile

Northernsoullover · 21/02/2021 09:43

Edward. I love the name. Wish I had used it. I was talked out it.

User57392985 · 21/02/2021 09:41

@RubysArms

Henry is such a dweeb's name.

Whereas Edward is strong.

See I think the opposite Grin any ‘Ed’ name I just imagine someone with a bunged up nose. Which is weird because I know a cool Ed.
olympicsrock · 21/02/2021 09:20

They are both good names. Similar in style. It’s a win win

BuffaloMozzarella · 21/02/2021 09:01

Both go well with our surname. We live in a Ireland (not Irish though) and I don't think either are overly popular here.

I do mostly like the Edward shortenings but would use the full name.

Henry I think is a really friendly sounding name.

It's interesting hearing people's opinions on the names. Is Horrid Henry still around?

Edward

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/02/2021 08:40

Edward would be my choice - it has nearly a dozen nns/variations (so he can easily chose something that suits him) and is one of 8 names that has stayed in the top 100 for at least the last 120 years (so very classic/timeless).

While Henry is a lovely traditional name too, it is much more subject to fashion/popularity whims (as well as having less nn choices).

cptartapp · 21/02/2021 08:03

Edward in it's entirety. No contrived nn.

PepsiArcade · 21/02/2021 08:01

I prefer Henry

EchoLimaYankee · 21/02/2021 07:57

I find Edward a harsh name. The two strong syllables maybe. Henry is nice but there are a fair few of them around.

ellenpartridge · 21/02/2021 07:47

Henry but I like both

TaraRhu · 21/02/2021 07:37

Henry

Lobsterquadrille2 · 21/02/2021 07:36

Henry. Both are lovely though so you can't go wrong.

Penguinandduck · 21/02/2021 07:31

I had both on my list but had a girl! I think Edward would just about win for me

CotleyMew · 21/02/2021 07:27

Henry by a mile

Edward I don't like at all

CoffeeRunner · 21/02/2021 07:15

Edward for me.

I know it’s supposed to be very popular again but personally I only know two Henry’s. Both with brothers called Edward as it happens Grin.

There seem to be more Edward/Ted/Teddy here.

alanpartridgefromtheoasthouse · 21/02/2021 06:58

I love both. My nephew is called one so we'll be using the other if we have a boy next time round.

Does one go better than the other with your surname?

Aebj · 21/02/2021 06:55

I know a Henry that’s about a year old now and he’s the most amazing little boy.
My sons middle name is Edward and well he’s a shitbag🤣🤣🤣
I like either name but maybe Edward as Henry is making a come back.?

Alonelonelyloner · 21/02/2021 06:52

I always think of Horrid Henry, which is awful.
Edward is awesome though.

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 21/02/2021 06:47

Why do people feel the need to be so rude about names? Surely you can voice your preference without making unpleasant remarks about the other name?

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 21/02/2021 06:42

Edward. I haaaate Henry and can't get over its current popularity. It reminds me of someone really unappealing. (No specific person, just the image that comes to mind when I hear the name!) Edward is nice and has nice nickname options too.

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 21/02/2021 06:27

OP I prefer Henry. There’s more opportunity for shortened versions with Edward. Would that help sway your choice at all?

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 21/02/2021 06:12

@RubysArms not particularly sure how that could be anything other than disrespectful Hmm

Bluesername · 21/02/2021 06:10

Henry

CakesOfVersailles · 21/02/2021 04:39

Henry.

But just by a wee smidgeon. Both are great names.
