Interested to hear what people think of the name Octavia for a girl please?
Baby is due in August and we also got married in August so the eighth has significance for us, I'm really warming towards it.
I know it is a Skoda 😂 but that doesn't bother me too much!

I love it! It’s on my list. I knew an Octavia growing up and her nn was Occy

Redsquirrel5 · 22/02/2021 00:56

I liked it for DD but I called her a name that was less unusual then lots of people chose that too so it became quite common unfortunately. I liked Lydia too and DD has a friend called Lydia now.

Historytoo · 20/02/2021 20:46

Wonderful name, I'd have liked it for DD2 but DH used his veto sadly.

partyatthepalace · 20/02/2021 20:45

Yes, lovely.

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/02/2021 19:23

It's a lovely name. I used to have a much loved porcelain doll named Octavia as a child. I also know a brilliant 9 year old Octavia, she is very bright, a little bit quirky but such an interesting a lovely child

YoniAndGuy · 19/02/2021 12:15

I'm not a fan. It's very harsh in the way Victoria is harsh - it's quite jerky. Also there are just much, much nicer names with more flow and better short forms in that 'style' bracket I think - I reckon that's why it's not more popular. I bet loads of people have Octavia on their lists... but few actually like it the best and use it, I think.

@Allaboutthatbass

My daughter is Antonia - similar sort of bracket of name. Though she is 1/2 Latina also. I still worry at times that it sounds a bit pretentious in English. But couldn’t imagine her being anything different now. I do really like the name Octavia though.
My dd1 knew an Antonia. Her mum was German. She was known as Nia for short!

I don’t like many long names but think this is quite cool, I do actually have Elula on my list though which means August (although has nothing directly to do with the number eight). I prefer Augusta to Octavia but probably too literal. I’d go for it.

byvirtue · 17/02/2021 20:46

It was on our list but dd arrived early in July! Love it would use it for another daughter regardless of month born!

SeanChailleach · 17/02/2021 20:44

The Octavia's I've met have all been Italian. And formidable - including the 5yo. Very strong and elegant.

Chardonnay73 · 17/02/2021 20:44

Jilly Cooper had a heroine called Octavia, shortened to Tavvy IFIRCC.
I love it, not too common but not too out there.

CeibaTree · 17/02/2021 20:39

I love it, it was on our list but we weren't brave enough to use it!

sleepyhead1980 · 17/02/2021 20:15

I wanted octavia for my girl but my husband said no. I love it

luluorange · 17/02/2021 20:11

@RuledbyASD

As in Skoda Octavia?! People will think you've named your child after a flipping car....
@RuledbyASD yes just like Cleo, Kia and Elise 🙄 the name is much older than the car so doesn't bother me at all ☺️

Always loved it!

Skyla2005 · 17/02/2021 19:31

It doesn't flow very nicely to my ears. I don't like it atall

MissSmiley · 17/02/2021 19:20

Love it, was on my list, I have a big affinity with the number 8!

twinkledag · 17/02/2021 19:15

Lovely name ☺️

Meredusoleil · 17/02/2021 19:10

Lovely name. We have a toy octopus that we have named this 😁

Lanique · 17/02/2021 19:04

I'm not keen - it's too heavy and it has a slightly pretentious vibe. I'm normally a fan of strong names that end in -a but this one has never done it for me.

However if I had a child born on 08/08/08 like a previous poster I'd definitely be tempted to use it, in that context it's really cool!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/02/2021 18:59

Absolutely love it, Octavia is a beautiful name. I understand some people may say it's "posh" but I think it's elegant, feminine (and Shakespearean to boot!). I also like that it has a few nn options - I like Vaya/Vaia, but there is the more obvious Tavi and Taya too.

PapayaChutney · 17/02/2021 18:55

Really really like it! My friend's sister is called Octavia and I've always thought it was a great name. Very unusual without being too out there or made up.

Bluesername · 17/02/2021 18:52

I like Octavia, less keen on Tavy which is too much like Davy.
