Ella and Alice? Do they sound good together or too similar?

I think they work together well

greyballoo · 18/02/2021 04:29

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants best advice I've ever heard when it comes to names. Go into a park and shout them to see how they sound out loud. What a simple but awesome idea!!!!

WitchyBitch · 18/02/2021 03:36

If you like the name and have no other name that you like just as much then just use the name. I think they sound fine together and not too similar- I've heard of people using much much more similar names like one letter difference between three kids! If you don't intend on using a nickname anyway then it shouldn't matter if her friends call her Ally really. Anyway the only Aly I've known of was shortened from Alyanna.

Edenember · 18/02/2021 03:23

Would be too similar for me personally, but I wouldn’t think it was odd to hear on other siblings.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 18/02/2021 02:23

Go into a park and shout for them

Then picture their individual school friends call them El & Al or Ella & Ali you can't control that, as much as my Dad tried!

There are lots of names that won't create this unnecessary hassle.

Heh1991 · 18/02/2021 02:14

Both lovely names but I wouldn’t do it as I do think they’re too similar. I know lots of Alices and do know 2 that go by ally!

PickettWhiteFences · 17/02/2021 06:37

Only once have I known a child called Alice, known as Ally and that was years and years ago.

NewScone · 17/02/2021 06:29

I think it works well

MeBingandBong · 16/02/2021 21:51

I like it - sounds nice together

SpringSummer22345 · 16/02/2021 16:01

@redyellowpink nice to hear that you haven't found them to be too similar

We've got the Ella already (definitely an Ella not an Eleanor), it's just the name for little sister

MaidEdithofAragon · 16/02/2021 15:52

Eleanor and Alice is a fab combination.

redyellowpink · 16/02/2021 15:51

These are mine and my sister's names. Not too similar!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/02/2021 15:48

Ella and Alice are fine imo - lovely names. The only thing I'd say that Ella seems a little more trendy/contemporary sounding than classic/traditional Alice (Emma and Alice would be a more obvious pairing), but not to the point it's unusual or unusable (and some people say sibsets shouldn't be the exactly same style anyway!)

SpringSummer22345 · 16/02/2021 13:35

Ok this is good to hear. They do sound a little too similar when I say them together but perhaps I'll be able to get used to that. I just worried that it sounded a bit silly.

Synchrony · 16/02/2021 11:13

I don't know any Alice's who have their names shortened.
Alice and Ella sound nothing alike to me. I'd have no concerns.

SpringSummer22345 · 16/02/2021 11:13

We're happy to just use Alice without any nicknames. I guess I was just worried others would call her Ally/ she'd go by Ally in the future and then we would have an Ally and an Ella which we wouldn't want. Reassuring to hear that other Alice's you know don't have the nickname Ally. Perhaps I am just overthinking it Smile!

BallsToYouSue · 16/02/2021 10:47

I think it's fine. You could shorten Alice to Liss? Avoid any confusion!

Chilldonaldchill · 16/02/2021 10:43

I know a lot of Alices ranging from age 5 to 25 and I've never met one who was called Ally (or anything other than Alice).

ILoveStickers · 16/02/2021 08:42

Tbh I don't know any Alices whose names are shortened, so as long as you're not calling her Ally routinely I think it's probably ok.

SpringSummer22345 · 16/02/2021 08:39

I really like both names, it's just when I say them together that I wonder whether they work. The Alice nickname 'Ally' is another thing, we wouldn't use it but others might. Not sure whether Alice tends to get shortened though.

Think they sound lovely together

glitterbubbles · 16/02/2021 08:15

I think it's fine and they're both great names :)

Himawarigirl · 16/02/2021 08:13

I think they sound nice together.

Whatsyourflava · 16/02/2021 08:05

Both lovely names
I don't find them too similar. I think it's fine
