Is Rosa becoming too popular?

Penny2020 · 15/02/2021 16:50

I decided on the name Rosa years before I even got pregnant and was so excited to have a beautiful ‘rare’ name in the Uk. I just came on this site and seems people are saying Rosa is now becoming a common name and I’m distraught! I’m desperate to avoid her having to be Rosa X because there are so many others in her class.
Does anyone know any new baby Rosas out there, am I accidentally choosing the next Sophia?

It’s a lovely name. I’ve never known a Rosa.

89redballoons · 20/02/2021 21:19

I know a two year old Rosa and another one who is in her early 30s.

I think once you choose a name, if you're remotely bothered about it being popular you cringe every time you see it mentioned and you think it is everywhere. Kind of like how when you're pregnant you notice pregnant women everywhere.

My DS's name is below number 300 in the popularity rankings, but my impression from looking on here is that every other baby boy shares his name! Some of it is definitely confirmation bias.

I know two Rosas, one is nine and the other about five.

Rosa Mystica is a fantastic name.

Statistically it may be on the up, but you should also look at this through the lens of your local area. There are definite trend patterns of distribution depending on locality. If you don’t know any little Rosa’s in your vicinity and considering we can’t accurately predict future naming trends, go for it .

I only know of one Rosa & she is early 40’s. Irish lady.

Elderflower14 · 18/02/2021 23:26

Makes me think of the cat in the original Fireman Sam series...
I love it....

Baffledma · 18/02/2021 23:24

Two Rosies in daughters class, although one is Rosanna.

Winningmoves · 18/02/2021 19:50

It does make me think of Rosacea. Rosemary is a beautiful name

unmarkedbythat · 18/02/2021 19:50

My great great aunt was Rosa. I don't think I ever met her but she was famous in my mum's family. Lovely name, and if it's becoming common again I haven't noticed yet.

Devlesko · 18/02/2021 19:47

There's a few in my family tree, an old Romany name.

Penny2020 · 18/02/2021 19:41

@Onlinedilema you are describing me perfectly!!! And I’ll keep Turd on the maybe list for now Smile

Thanks everyone!

It's definitely not common. Posters on here go mental if anyone else in the entire universe shares the same name as their child. The only way you will get a name that nobody else is called is if you make one up or use a ridiculous noun such as Turd.

Timpeall · 16/02/2021 21:39

@Serin

My aunt is Rosa Mystica (very Catholic!), she is in her 80's.
Mystica is fantastic! Grin
NewScone · 16/02/2021 21:38

If you love it go for it.

Timpeall · 16/02/2021 21:38

In American TV and films the Hispanic maids/housekeepers are very often called Rosa.

Timpeall · 16/02/2021 21:34

It's always a gamble if choosing a less popular name is important to you. It might become hugely popular or it might just reach the upper end of the top 100 and then drop out again. No point worrying too much about it. The main thing is you choose a name you love.

I love Rosa and especially Rosalie, but I've never known anyone of either of those names. If you love a name go for it and sod everyone else.

ItsTheDramaMickILoveIt · 16/02/2021 20:43

I know of one, she’s 34. I’ve heard of lots of girls now having Rose as a middle name and a couple of Rosies but no Rosas.

poblwcymru · 15/02/2021 20:06

There is a Rosie, Rosa and Rosanna at my daughters nursery (different rooms) - rose names definitely on the up

JustCallMeBrittany · 15/02/2021 18:10

Roise yes, (pronounced Rocha), it has become super popular (amongst folk likely to call their daughters an Irish name), or Rose as a middle name, but I don't know a single Rosa. Beautiful too.
Love all the Rose names actually 😍

babynamelover · 15/02/2021 18:07

I'm in NZ I've known one my whole life who will be in her thirties now and one Rosalie. Lots of Roses and Rosemary's though.

RuthW · 15/02/2021 17:37

I have only met on Rosa in my life. She would be about 45 now.

christinarossetti19 · 15/02/2021 17:36

Rosa is one of those beautiful, classic, easy-to-spell-and-pronounce names that everyone's heard of but have only ever met a few people with.

I agree that you never can tell. One of my dc has a 'popular' name - he's was the only child in his primary school and is the only one in his secondary school.

Use it if you love it.

Whatsyourflava · 15/02/2021 17:33

I don't know any
Never seen it been described as overly popular on mumsnet
