Names for boys (aristocratic/posh/fancy)

Hi All!
Looking for a fancy sounding middle name for our son.
We're from a family who're used to really quite fancy names - but we chose to go for something pretty middle of the road by their standards for our boy. Because of this, it'd be great to find a sophisticated middle name for him instead.
And before you start with comments about 'posh' and upper class and 'why would you want your son to have a posh name' and all the class warrior stuff, there's no need. Preferences are preferences and we don't need to get into a debate on the ridiculous class system in this country, we get it.
Names we considered Hugo, Montgomery, Rafferty, etc. Nothing too extreme like Ptolemy or anything - they're not THAT posh!
DS name begins with L.
Thanks for your help :-)

Are posh men I have known.

I know a Benedict from a council house.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/02/2021 20:56

Tarquin is pretentious not truly posh.

I think posh names tend to be quite straightforward. Many of these names are 'pseudo posh' - there's a massive difference!

ElfAndSafetyInspector · 06/02/2021 20:56

I LOVE the name Benedict for a boy.

The poshest men I know are Charlie, Guy, Paul, Barnaby and Roland.

@Lifeinaonesie I have a Digby, couldn't believe when I suggested it to DH and he agreed he liked it! Few raised eyebrows from the grandparents but it really suits him

eeek88 · 06/02/2021 20:52

@bitliketonyhares

Tarquin 💯 Is the poshest name of all time.
I’m not sure. Cosmo beats it I think.

Strictly speaking tarka is the technique of frying spices etc. in oil, then adding to the dish as a sort of garnish, so you can have tarka dhal, but equally could tarka otter Twoleftsockswithholes

Hold on! isn't Tarka an Indian dish made with dhal rather than otters? Hmm

Surprised no-one has mentioned Rafe!

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/02/2021 19:29

The otter was Tarka, not Tarquin.

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/02/2021 19:26

Diggory, Diggory has to be posh, surely. And Dickon...

Digby
I wanted digby so bAfy for my DS but it was well and truly vetoed by everyone I spoke to about it. Next dog I get will be a digby though!
florascotia2 · 06/02/2021 19:11

John, Peter, Hugh, James, Francis, George, Albert - for the rest, if you have to ask, it isn't. That doesn't mean that some names in the past haven't been 'posh', from Ivo and Torquil (not Tarquin) to Humphrey to Miles. It just means that now they are less exclusive (if that's what 'posh' means); many more people know about them and choose them. That is of course not a bad thing. It just changes the dynamic, somewhat. I am NOT making judgements, just a statistics-based comment.

FuriousWithTheNHS · 06/02/2021 19:06
